I am looking for more information and help for a symptom I've been suffering for the last few years.
I have been tired 24/7 , dealing with progressive memory.concentration loss, and have not been dreaming.
I have been tested on blood tests and sleep tests but nothing has shown up.
I have been diagnosed with:
Chronic Sinusitis
Depression (Wellbutrin)
Candida Albican overgrowth
I have also suspected myself of being Anemic (B12).
Besides my ongoing treatments for my health problems I am wondering if there is a supplement which could possibly make me sleep better/deeper without causing more drowsiness during the day.
Things that helped me sleep better, and some of these ideas were echoed in the stories of other people who I've spoken to, in their own experiences:
Valerian root capsules to help relax
Avoiding carbs at dinner, (non-candida people may actually sleep better after a high-carb dinner, but some candida people get fermentation in the gut at around 2:00 in the morning from high-carb dinners, which disturbs sleep)
Making the room you sleep in be absolutely pitch black dark: no moonlight shining in the window, no little lights in the room from any clocks or appliances. I put aluminum foil on my window to block out the streetlight.
Going to bed at around the same time every evening: pick a time, and stick with it
Avoiding caffiene after lunchtime: it stays in your blood for hours
If you suddenly change your diet, or suddenly start taking a strong anti-candida product, the ensuing candida die-off can cause temporary high cortisol, making sleep more difficult. So, I try to make such changes a little more gradually.
Limit your simple carbs, fats, salt,or anything that speeds up metabolism at evening/night. More veggies/protein/ relaxing foods at night.
You could try melatonin it could cause some groggyness in the morning..You might have to experiment with the doseage.
Epsolm salt/lavender foot bath might help a little.
Is your insomnia worst since taking wellbutrin? Because insomnia is part of its commun side effects. So maybe you should talk to your md first...
Also it is important to try and find the root cause of the insomia: are you anxious and relentless during the day? If so yoga, breathing technique and frequent pauses during the day can help you a lot.
If it is candida albican, in my personnal experience, colonics literally change my life! I now sleep so much deeper than before! (i was an insomniac for 10 years because of mold exposure).
Liquid magnesium really help to relax and molybdenum helps a lot with die-off symtoms that you might have while taking antifungals. (brain fog, insomia...)
Also hypoglycemia can lead to frequent awakenings: a snack before bed made of protein, good fat and complex carbohydrate( brown cracker with peanut butter and sliced apple by exemple) can help you as well as taking chromium during the day.
The rest is really like the others said about creating a sleeping routine and avoiding stimulants. By exemple each night about an hour before going to sleep you might want to shut the lights off and do a relaxing activity like reading or watching tv, to send the message to your body that you are slowly going to sleep.
Also be aware that there is a difference bw being tired and being sleepy...you should only go to sleep when you have physical signs of being sleepy: your eyes start being heavy, you have difficulty to concentrate on tv or radio...etc
If you can't fall asleep, get out of bed and go back to a quiet activity (tv, radio, reading) until you are sleepy again: this way you will avoid the association between insomnia and your bedroom and the frustration that comes with it...its' better to sleep 4 good hours than 12 bad ones...
Also try not to sabotage yourself by disturbing further your sleep pattern during the day: if you take a nap: no more than one hour and do it before 3 o'clock pm...other wise it will interfere with your night of sleep..
5-HTP, GABA or melatonin. 5-HTP is particularly good if you have serotonin deficiency depression (depression with anxiety, perfectionism, obsessive thoughts, autonomic negative thoughts), although I'm not sure if it can be used together with Wellbutrin. GABA is particulary good if you feel anxious, stressed, overwhelmed and have tight muscles. Melatonin is particularly good if you are over 55 or your sleep cycles have been interrupted by something like shiftwork.
Hi
I can not advice as I am not a doctor but try some hypnosis. When doctors do not know what is wrong with people hypnosis let discover and deal with your problem. no dreaming is relatively easy but depression is quite tricky.
There are some good hypnotic mp3 you can use for memory improvement. try it for a few weeks and you should see some progress
