My son is autistic and we started using ALA 3 months ago. We initialy were doing week end only protocol when he was in school but are now doing 7 days on 7 days off (every three hrs 10mg/dose). We have noticed my son does much better on the days he is on ALA. Does anyone else experience this? How long of duration can be done without going off? What are the risk of extending the duration?
I agree with Tizona though it's important to take a break occasionally to allow your body to replenish nutrients it may have lost during chelation, rebuild its supply of glutathione, etc. When I used ALA for chelating, I found I lost Iodine and had thyroid problems because of it. It was good to take an occasional break and get some additional iodine in my system. I began eating a little iodized salt every day, and my thyroid symptoms went away soon after.
I'm on ALA from May (3 months) because feel bad when I stop the cycle. Now I'm chelating with 100mg and many pimples and rashes disappear every single day because mercury is out.
What about copper toxicity during long term ALA cycle?
I can't find what Culter say on that question?
Is this results in copper toxicity again?
I cleaned myself from oxidized copper but that was 10 months ago...
Eric, are you sure that you didn't mistake the dehydration with loss of Iodine. Iodized salt is poor source of iodine. The form of Iodine in salt is pottasium IODATE. It's quite different form then elemental iodine or iodide...
I don't know for sure what the truth is, but I had a number of symptoms of iodine deficiency with an enlarged thyroid being the most obvious. I took a little iodized salt every day and the symptoms went away quickly.
Whole body Iodine sufficiency can't be obtained from salt or plant sources. I used Lugol's solution (elemental iodine and iodide) with great success. Now my hands and feet are warm during cold days, sweating better, better mood, fast brain function... read "Iodine Supplementation Support by VWT..."
My concern with extendeding the cycle is depleting other minerals and/or the build up of others. I thought I read someplace that zinc and copper can build up, I'm not sure what other minerals may be depleted. It is not feasible to do the extended cycles when he is in school; therefore, I was hoping to extend his next cycle until the beging of school (about 3 weeks). I would like to use the remaining time before he goes to school as effective as possible without doing harm. Any thoughts if extending from 1 week to 3 weeks would be safe. Any other supplements that may need to be added or avoided during that time? Thanks
Andy just commented on this on the frequentdose chelation yahoo group. He made it sound like you could chelate indefinitely. He said he wasn't as worried about copper buildup as he was when he wrote Amalgam Illness.
My son does better on ALA days also. We have recently gone from weekends to weekdays ON and weekends OFF.
We have done two week rounds....only thing is.....the longer rounds, candida tends to become a problem for us....so we end up using antifungals toward the end of the round. But, he is the point now that he recovers fairly quickly from the candida attack.
