Hi everyone, its great to have such an outlet to express opinions. I am a Director with a noted motoring club in Edmonton, AB. Due to the fact that I sit most of the day- I am a Director and I know I do nothing- I have developed severe hemmorhoids. I have tried to get up every hour or two and walk but nothing seems to help. I have used all the usual suspected medications- Prep H etc., but still I have a throbbing pain that does not go away. Does anyone think that surgery is my only option? My employees say I am an old "pain in the ass" but this really is not funny if you are suffering.
You might want to look under hemorrhoid forums and see what has helped other people.
Once you've tried those suggestions and over-the-counter medications, then it might be time to see a gastroenterologist. There might be medications out there that require a prescription that will help. Surgery is the last resort.
Eating more fiber (fruits, vegetables), drink plenty of water, and walk about 30 minutes a day and that should help. Everyone is different as to what works for them.
Fruits and vegetables and walking do wonders for me. But fiber cereal and bars will tend to constipate. It could be I'm not drinking enough water with them.
