Okay, I am fighting off mercury toxicity and candida overgrowth. I had read that Iodine would help, and that mercury toxicity is associated with iodine deficiency (plus, my diet lacks the recommended amount of iodine as it is, and I am not a salt eater).
So I bought an iodine supplement. It contained 6.25mg of iodine (!!), so I figured that was unsafe (the recommended upper limit, I hear, is 1.1mg), so I instead opened the capsule, poured about 1/5 of it in my mouth, and took only that.
I did that yesterday and the day before, as I bought it on Saturday.
Well, it's Monday, and this morning I had to urinate (a lot) multiple times within an hour and I don't recall drinking an unusually large amount of water. This is freaking me out, and I really hope it's temporary. Anyone have experience with this? Is this related to the iodine, a candida symptom (mercury removal stirs up candida), or something else?
I can speak for the urinating part but what I will tell you is that you need to do a lot more research on iodine as the unsafe limit you speak of has been debunked a good while back by many studies and also the simple fact that many folks myself included are taking 100 mg or more iodine daily. Start by reading the "Iodine Answers" link at the top of the forum page http://curezone.com/faq/c.asp?a=13,281,2962. Lots of very useful and educating answers and links there.
Well anyway, the constant having to pee stopped after the morning. I'm definitely going to continue taking this.
And I *did* have a reaction of some sort to the Iodine fairly shortly after taking it, so it's definitely doing something. Mercury or candida-related, I don't know. Hell, now I'm having the "itchy" "pin-pricks" as well as the mild random chills in my legs and muscle twitches - all those symptoms are super mild, so mild as to be negligible themselves. But they're familiar symptoms that I've had in the past, and definitely occurring.
I'll take this as a good sign and keep at it on the iodine, keeping my dose low or maybe increasing it slightly.
>>At steady state condition, the serum Iodide levels expected for patients receiving 50 mg iodine/day should be approximately: serum iodide (mg/L) = daily intake (mg) / 43.5 Liter = 50 mg / 43.5 = 1.15 mg/L. If patients continue to excrete low levels of iodide after orthoiodosupplementation for 3 months, serum inorganic iodide levels are indicated to assess whether this is due to decreased absorption or increased demand. Malabsorption of iodine/iodide would result in very low serum inorganic iodide levels (10-8M) in the presence of low urinary excretion. We have not observed a case of malabsorption of Iodine yet, when iodine supplementation was in the range of 12.5 to 50 mg/day."
The dosage that she regularly used was 6 drops to ¼ - ½ cp water after meals and at bedtime has been given to people in the past in dosages of 2/3 tsp or 60 drops for thyroid disease.
Indefinitely???? as best we can tell at this point.
Depends who you talk to.
Dr. Brownstein was taking 50mg/day of iodoral when I saw him talk 4 years ago, and he had been doing that for 6 years or more I think. He told me that if he takes less than 50mg he doesn't feel as good, so he keeps taking it.
Others lower their dose once they get through their gunk.
Trapper will tell you to take a minimum of 100mg indefinitely.
If you can move to a perfect world where there are no bromides in the bread, vegetables, fabrics, electronics, hot tubs and no fluoride in the water and the drugs and anesthesia and no toxic chlorides in the water and the foods are saturated with Iodine then maybe we won't have to supplement with Iodine.
When things get great, I'll reduce the dosage. The symptom of my candida and mercury (don't know which is causing it, but the two conditions are together) I want to get rid of the most is my abnormally high hunger. (It's been VERY VERY SLOWLY going down on its own, but I want it gone NOW)
My diet is a largely Whole Foods diet, so I really hope I won't need huge amounts of supplemental Iodine forever.
Adding N-acetyl-cysteine and /or milk thistle to the mix will help the liver detox. Itchy skin, and breakouts are sign that the liver is being overwhelmed. I have noticed that when I get the breakouts, NAC (2-3 grams daily broken up) helps clear them up.
Doing more frequent salt flushes and increasing the dosage of Iodine helps too.
Hang in there, and take breaks from the iodine (but keep taking companion supplements and doing the salt flushes) for a few days or longer if symptoms get to be too much.
Also, I increased Iodine amount to 6.25mg a day, starting yesterday. Didn't experience an increase in die-off or anything today, though maybe it's too early to tell?
If I should take breaks, when? How long do you recommend I use iodine for and how long or when should the breaks be, and why?
Checked it out. Thanks! It doesn't answer all my questions, but it explains a lot of interesting things. Though I'm taking it to reduce my hunger back down to normal levels, and also remove mercury. This talks mostly about bromides, not mercury, which concerns me more.
