I read that it is recommended to not take kelp for longer than two weeks on the Mountain Rose order site. Says it causes too much iodine or something. Is is harmful to take for long periods of time at 1 TBSP a day? If ok, where do you suggest buying it as I guess we need a reputable source from clean ocean?
Thanks
I buy their powdered Rockweed which is also called....
(Ascophyllum nodosum - Norwegian Kelp) for winter time use due it's higher levels of sodium. Helps keep me warmer when it's cold outside and the natural sodium helps build poor adrenals.
In the spring/summer I switch to Digitata Kelp, which is also known as Laminaria Digitata or "Fingered Kelp". It is higher is potassium and helps keep me cooler.
I fill my own 00 capsules with the powdered kelp and it saves me quite a bit of money because I can buy in bulk.
Buying capsules at the health store can give different results due to the fact that many bottles do not tell what kind of kelp they contain.....and if they do tell, it is normally a mixture of different types. In that case you have to just keep experimenting with certain brands until you find one that just seems to be right for your season of need.
As far as the comment on the Mountain Rose website, all I can say is that taking powdered kelp capsules without either enough stomach acids or without additional acid, like the lemon juice or apple cider vinegar that we find in the moreless alkalizing drink may not be as beneficial to our health.
By using the kelp in the drink or taking kelp capsules with the drink, we make sure the kelp is complexed into a whole food for our bodies to make the best use of.
In a world where we have so much poor quality foods available, this is the next best thing....until we decide it is important enough to start to learn to grow our own gardens in a manner that grows high brix, low NPN, high quality foods.
Not everyone is strong in health enough to work in a garden.....some live in the city and have no land to grow foods. This is why this protocol was developed. So all can get to that stage in strength and health so they can start to make good choices for themselves and their families.
I hope you find the perfect kelp to regain your health with. :)
just like her, I also buy my kelp through these two websites. sometimes I opt for the Seaveg ( Main ) sometimes I go with the MR ( Oregon ) which could be easier on your valet if you buy 4-5 lbs in one shot like I do.
quality, although they claim it is organic and from the clean water can very from batch to batch, but over all I find it satisfactory.
I buy exclusively Asco kelp ( Norwegian )and its iodine quantities are nothing for you to worry about especially if you take just one TBL spoon a day.
I consume 4-5 times that quantity it's been years now, and all I see is improvement.
daily recommendation for iodine is 150 micrograms and you are far to attain that.
if you check iodine supplementation forum you'll see that some of these guys consume even more than that, so relax and go at it.
you can buy, if I'm not mistaken Asco for $3.80/lb at MountainRose.
