My tongue is white during the day, more solidly toward the back, and starts to fade into pink as it reaches the front. It takes on the color of whatever food I eat. For example, if I eat kale, my tongue will turn green and stay like that for a while.
In the morning, I always wake up with a dry tongue, and the tongue is yellowish, tinted green. Sometimes my tongue has tiny little grooves in it.
It would appear, from what I have read online, that what is on my tongue is NOT thrush. In the photos I've seen of thrush, the white part looks raised, thicker, and not uniform like what my tongue is presenting.
My main question is:
Is what's on my tongue Candida, or a symptom of a sluggish liver, gallbladder or spleen? And if so, do I need to concentrate on trying to get rid of it as well as get rid of the underlying cause?
That's a great question! I have a similar situation. White coated - not looking like pictures of thrush. More white at back and less white toward front. I've been doing liver cleanses - 1 per month for the last 6 months. I used malic acid instead of apple juice for this cleanse to avoid the sugar. There's a spit test you can do to see if you have candida but I don't think it tells you if candida is in the blood. According to Moritz Liver & colon flushes will take care of candida along with good diet because candida loves waste and putrid stuff to feed on.
according to chinese medicine, the tongue that I describe is a symptom of a toxic state due to weak spleen or gallbladder.
I also read that if it was candida on the tongue, that you should be able to scrape it off. Once I tried brushing it off with a 4oz water/1tsp bleach solution and it wouldn't come off, so that makes me think.
I have just finished a 3 day course of doing castor oil packs, and am doing kundalini yoga kriyas that deal exclusively with digestion and liver health. I just started them a week ago.
I started to question things after going to Sarah Vaughter's owndoc.com forums. She sells something called Lufeneron, which is a candida cell wall inhibitor, much like Flucanazole. The difference between her and others is she was actually telling many people in her forum that based on what they wrote they probably DIDN'T have candida, and that her product wouldn't work for them. One person on that forum described a tongue exactly like mine/ours.
I also did a colonic which included a full caecum flush, and the hydrotherapist with over 20 years experience told me that my colon was really fit-- no impacted waste, no signs of candida yeast, or mycellial candida.
I will continue with a candida protocol for now but place an emphasis on overall health and restoring immune function via Chinese medicinal herb tonics.
I think as to whether or not liver flushes and colonics will "take care" of candida-- the deciding factor is whether or not the candida has gone mycellial. If that is the case, it becomes hard to eradicate.
I think the cottage-cheesy tongue that is the classic sine qua non for candida probably equals a mycellial invasion, but I have no evidence to back that up.
I have spent a lot of time on Curezone chasing cures, and must say, that on some level, I think it's dangerous. There's a lot of people who have not been cured giving advice to people who have not been cured. So take my advice/experience with a grain of salt.
What I did find beneficial is to search within this forum with the search terms "I'm cured" or "I am cured" to see what those people did.
P.S. I think the "spit test" is complete and utter B.S. propagated by the folks who sell Threelac in their multilevel marketing scheme.
Well, I've read posts from some people where that did not happen. For example, I read several posts from people who alkalized themselves to the point of having the perfect pH saliva, but still had candida symptoms. Several of those people came right out and said the alkalizing did not help their candida. Perhaps alkalizing may help some, but not all cases.
White plaque on the tongue is common in people with autoimmune gluten sensitivity (Celiac Disease).
Here's one website:
Geographic Tongue (Glossitis) and its Relationship with Celiac Disease
One of several early mentions of geographic tongue (glossitis) in association with celiac disease may be found in the medical textbook "Coeliac Disease" by ...
Some people have a problem with 'fuzzy tongue'. Some people brush their tongue when they brush their teeth; my Water-Pik comes with a tonge attachment. Some people use mouth washes but there is usually some problem tthat needs attention to stop this. It might be due to an infection in the mouth, under the teeth or in decayed areas. It could be a sign of silent reflux.
In traditional Chinese medicine the appearance of an individual's tongue can be used to diagnose a number of different illnesses - often related to poor digestion.
I have a tongue scraper, which I intend to use each morning.
I find the white coating/mucus to be worse during the morning than later in the day. This suggests to me that the coating/mucus builds up while I am sleeping, and tallies up with the fact that I feel far worse in the morning than the afternoon.
Candida, parasites, leaky gut, etc. I believe a number of visitors to this forum are attempting to understand the reason for their poor health. And, no doubt like many others, identifying 'candida' as a potential cause gave me something to pin my hopes on.
I followed a strict carb/sugar free diet for approximately three months, while also following the ParaGone and then CandiGone cleanses, and consumed plenty of coconut oil/GSE/oregano oil. However, despite my efforts, I did not experience any typical 'die-off' like symptoms, nor did I notice anything out of the ordinary in my stools.
Of course, with such a long list of potential symptoms, it's very difficult to truly rule-out the possibility of candida. I hope to receive the results from a Genova CDSA 2.0 test within the next week or so, which may complicate matters further, however I felt it was something I needed to pursue as a 'just in case...'.
In recent weeks, I have started to introduce foods back into my diet, beginning with brown rice and mung/adzuki beans. At the weekend I ate warm porridge oats for breakfast, a rice and bean dish for lunch, then a dinner consisting of rice and barley, with sweet potato, kabotcha pumpkin, and spicy spinach soup. If candida was the root cause of my health issues, I expect I would have felt some kind of 'reaction' to this rather carbohydrate-heavy intake. However, my symptoms the following day were just as if I had been eating green leafy vegetables, steamed fish, and no carbs - i.e. no change.
To return to your topic of coated tongue, however, I have been consuming a type of Japanese herbal medicine for several months to assist with constipation. I've had to work with the pharmacist to adjust the potency - sometimes it feels too powerful, other occasions the constipation returns. Currently I am drinking the medicine (a tea) three times a day in between meals, every other day.
I explained to the pharmacist that, while the medicine certainly helps with constipation, I still suffer from a number of other symptoms (headaches, brain fog, fatigue, poor/slow-healing cuts, coated tongue). He has recommended a different formula (in addition to the existing medication) for a one-week trial, which he believe may assist with the other symptoms. I hope to begin this new medication tomorrow.
As noted above, I also intend to make tongue scraping (and possibly mouth washing) a regular habit, although I strongly believe that the mucus build-up is actually a reflection of poor digestion (and/or weak spleen/gallbladder etc., as you noted above), rather than being the root cause.
Well, this is clearly an area that I am interested, so I shall monitor your message closely and update you if there any developments with the new herbal formula.
I looked at photos of glossitis tongue, and maybe one in ten look like mine. I've never really thought myself as celiac, but then again, I haven't eaten a burger since I started this wacky Candida diet, so I don't know. Maybe it's time to test the waters and see...
I don't have the geographic tonue. I looked at pics of those. I feel fine. I have way more energy since doing the cleanses. - but probably have some candida.
Remember that the autoimmune reaction to gluten is a delayed reaction and the symptoms you might notice may not be easy to recognise, especially since you have a candida problem. If you have an allergy to gluten usually the symptoms occur within an hour of eating.
I have a geographic tongue and if I eat solely a liquid diet of green smoothies my tongue is clear and pink. The moment I eat anything with grains the spots reappear. I think fatigue is also a symptom of gluten intolerance.
Liver flushes are important during this time of cleansing because candida thrives in the liver. I'm still passing masses of candida from my flush this past weekend, although I don't pass it otherwise.
