I just found out I'm pregnant. I've had chronic intestinal candida for many years, and recently found out it's probably caused by old mercury dental fillings in my mouth. I've always used pau darco as my main remedy to control candida. I read it's not good to take during pregnancy. Does anyone know of any natural remedies that are safe for pregnant women? Thanks.
Thats a hard one. You dont want to create to much toxins with antifungals while pregnant. You might just have to stick with a very strict diet during your pregnancy. Thats not easy to do when cravings come about.
Usually for most people it takes more than just mercury fillings to develop strong candida. Think of how much of society has mercury fillings and they dont have severe candida. Antibiotics will have more of an impact on candida than mercury fillings. Although Mercury fillings dont help with candida. Mercury is toxic to all cells including candida. Jeff mccombs has a good clip on this.
You can ask Dr. Jeff and see what he might have to say.
I would just stick to a no sugar/junk diet until after your baby is born. I would not recommend fighting it when you're pregnant. Candida binds mercury, so when you kill it, it releases the methyl-mercury into your system and mercury does cross the placental lining. You don't want any more mercury circulating in your body! Forget the candida for now - just relax and enjoy the miracle of motherhood. :-)
If I knew then what I know now (would be nice, right?), I would have treated my daughter for candida from day 1. Babies are born with YOUR gut flora as they pass through the birth canal (and also in breast milk), but are easily treatable because the bad flora has not had time to set up shop and dig in for 20 years like the rest of us.
See Dr Natasha Campbell and the GAPS diet (youtube search). I've heard of making home-made coconut kefir and kraut and rubbing a little bit of the juice in their mouth a few times a day to get some good bacteria in their system. My daughter had aweful colic, and I now know that is the first sign of gut dysbiosis. The bloating and gas were caused by the candida, where good bacteria will help them digest the milk. As soon as they can eat, start giving them the young coconut kefir. My brother feeds his kid the coconut kefir blended with avocado as his first food and he loves it.
Thanks. If my baby is born with my gut flora, then it's going to be in trouble. There's so much candida in there. I'm beginning to get very worried and scared.
Don't be worried! A baby's flora is much easier to correct, as they are born with a "blank slate" so to speak. I would not worry about the candida or Amalgam fillings - enjoy your pregnancy and bonding with your child. Our body has the amazing capacity to filter all sorts of toxins in the environment, so a little mercury vapor from your fillings isn't going to compound anything (but obviously, you wouldn't want to remove them while pregnant which releases alot into your system!).
Every mom is worried - we all just want a healthy baby. I was in my 30's with candida (didn't know it at the time), amalgams, and was pregnant 3 months before I even knew it so I had no prenatal care. I was scared too. My baby was perfectly healthy and amazingly alert and hit all her milestones early until she was 2 (the candida started over growing when she went to solid food and tons of fruit). However, even at that point, with a proper diet and antifungal, she is quickly turning around.
So that's why I say don't worry at all about the candida - your baby will be fine, and you are armed with the knowledge to start to rebalance yourself and the baby from day 1 so you won't see any issues down the road from it.
I don't really have a vaginal yeast problem thank goodness so hopefully everything will work out for my baby if she/he is born vaginally. The flora she/he picks up from me should be normal.
Even if the candida is not vaginal, coconut will still eliminate it. I started into it by eating it raw and plain. Substituting it and oil pulling with it. It is considered a detox of sorts. As a few days later I had a bm of plain clear/white and felt much better.
Im sure if you just incorporate it into your diet in small ways it will start helping.
