This is going to be a long post but I like to tell my stories in detail.
I have had cataracts which were solved eventually by drops (cineraria + MSM + Can-C, I don't know which one worked, most probably the first). However the cataracts kept coming back. Also my eyesight is rapidly deteriorating towards more myopia. Very bad for me since I only see with one eye. Iodine did not seem to do much for this particular problem. Maybe made it worse (sorry to say - not completely sure but suspected). WHY???????? I came to think that this could be a lymphatic problem. More detox > more junk in the lymph.
Since bowel function is top, I do a lot of pranayam and lungs are more than fine, I drink a lot of water, my eye pressure is fine, I was at my wits' end. Also many people say there are no lymph vessels in the eye so I dismissed this idea as too far-fetched.
A few months ago I was asked for help by N. (62 years old) who had severe glaucoma and cataract in one eye. Doctors said he had to have immediate surgery because he was on the verge of going blind. He had the surgery, then after a week the OTHER eye developed a pressure problem, from 20 to 40. He was afraid he would have to have surgery on the other eye too and started to fret about his doctors not being so knowledgable as he had previously thought.
In my mechanical yoga eye I thought : pressure = imbalance = lets divert the energy elsewhere. FAST. No time for him to learn the subtleties of feeling your body from the inside!
I knew a way. As a teen I had been riding horses a lot, and my teacher was an old army man who had fought on horses in the desert in a very hot climate. He had taught me a procedure I was supposed to do EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE!!! if I wanted to go on being a good horsewoman until my nineties. I did it for a while, but I was young and more than healthy, so after I stopped riding it just slipped out of my mind. This I believe is called a sitz bath, but when I Google it I find that the way I know it is very different from what people do in general.
This procedure is known in Europe as "bains dérivatifs" and popularized by France Guillain. She explains it well but I do not agree at all with some other aspects of her recommendations. However she is spot on for the sitz bath procedure. This is derived from Louis Kuhne's but is not exactly the same.
I'll explain it in another post.
Anyway, N. started on the BD as I shall call them. Once a day 10 mns a day for a week. After 5 days his eye pressure dropped to 18!!!!!!! Completely normal. This was easily and speedily measured because he had to report to his surgeon every four days to be sure everything was OK with the consequences of his surgery. He went on with his BD, increasing them to 20 mn a day. With several other benefits, and now it seems even his cataract is less troublesome. Difficult to measure that though.
One month ago, he brought his girlfriend B. (58 years old with myopia -8). She wanted to try the BD for fun (?). After 20 days of 10 mns (I told her to be very careful in the beginning since nothing was wrong with her apparently, why disturb something which is fine) she reported seeing colours much better, that they were more brilliant. Now this is exactly the contrary of what had happened to me in the beginning of my cataracts, I had thought the colours were less beautiful than before. I had not realized that this was the onset of cataracts. So I suppose these BD help with cataracts. She is now going on with her BD, so lets see what happens in the future.
B. brought a friend, M. (45 years old) glaucoma, hypothyroid on T4, hysterical, dieting and brain fogged to the teeth. She started the BD and, in spite of my advice to be careful, jumped to 30 mns in two days. The pressure in the eyes went down so fast that she woke up with vitrous detachment, seeing flashes and floaters. Went to hospital, doctors said it was NOT retinal detachment. Now she has a bunch of floaters. Eye pressure is fine though! EASY in the beginning! At the moment she still has floaters but the flashes have gone. And the eye pressure is normalized.
Needless to say, seeing these good results, I have gone back to the BD myself. I thought that my lymph was fluid, thanks to the yoga practices and the iodine. I had gone recently to the ophthalmologist who had found my eye pressure was just dandy (16), most probably due to the iodine. What a surprise!!! After just four days it seemed that my eyes had sunk into their sockets. One morning I woke up afraid to open them, it felt as if they were going to roll off!!!!!! My eyebrows tickle as though bitten by fleas. My eyes are wet when I wake up with an extra tear ready to be shed as when I was 30. This morning I saw a crack on the ceiling. My DH assured me it had been there since an earthquake two years ago. But I can't really say my eyesight is better, it fluctuates like crazy for the moment.
This is all quite recent, so maybe anyone reading this should wait to see if we survive.
Measure the inside of toilet bowl. Find yourself a plastic basin that will fit in.
Raise the plastic lids of the toilet.
Fill the basin with cold water + a handful of ice cubes (depending on weather and duration of BD - the water should stay cold) and fit it in the toilet.
Lower the first lid of the toilet and sit on it with legs parted wide.
You should be as warm as possible, well clothed except for the groin. Socks etc if needed.
For the required time you should leisurely rub (not hard!) a cloth on both sides of the pubis dipping it in the cold water between your legs at each turn.
From the perineum till the hip bone. Not on the genitals, this is true for men and women. On the sides, in the creases between the pubis and the thighs. Up or down as you wish. Eventually the tops of the thighs get a bit pink.
At no time are you sitting in the water. At no time is water aimed at the genitals, even if some may fall there. At no time should you rub the genitals, as this brings a sympathetic response that is contrary to the effect you want.
The aim is to create a difference in temperature between the sides of the pubic bone and the rest of the body. Friction is a plus too. If your skin is irritated, don't rub so hard, only use the water softly until it is comfortable. Cold + friction is best; cold with no friction works more slowly but still works.
That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.
After a while you start feeling a kind of very light internal shiver. Not always felt but it happens nonetheless. This is a movement of the lymphatic system. If you are attentive you can feel it under your scalp, inside your lungs etc. After a couple of weeks it happens also in the day while you are living your life. This is because the tiny muscles that shake your lymphatic vessels have exercised and become stronger so they can act on other triggers.
When you have finished if you have time go under your warmest blanket with a hot water bottle on the liver or the middle of the chest for a while. This is optional.
No need for equipment or drugs. PLAIN cold water, do NOT add herbs etc.
The effects :
- This moves the lymphatic system into action extremely fast.
- It powerfully helps to move the lymph to divert it to the bowels (hence the name "Bains Derivatifs"). You get rid of junk and can have several bowel movements a day.
- It also brings more fresh lymph to parts difficult to reach (this is different for every individual) with the essential nutriments contained in the fats it carries.
- The lymph distributes a lot of hormones, so this procedure speeds the delivery of hormones, and their reactions to one another. Very helpful.
- It distributes the bacteria/virus fighting cells around. More immunity available without increasing the number of fighting cells. Very important for those with auto-immunity problems I suppose.
- It triggers the parasympathetic system and counteracts the many sympathetic stimuli we inflict on ourselves through stress.
Timings : not more than 10 mn for the first 10 days. See what happens, then you can slowly increase to 25 mn per day is you weigh about 70 kg.
When I was younger we did it with a sponge to kids to make their fever go down. Kids = 1 mn is enough if they are babies. 5 mns for toddlers.
DO NOT GO TOO FAST. It can be very tiring in the beginning, with lots of detox. Keep well hydrated and warm at all times.
This is really good information. And very do-able, I think. I've heard other ways to do it; such as to first take a long hot bath, and then, immerse only the lower parts in cold water, or lift handfuls of cold water onto them, after draining the bath. I've only ever tried a few minutes of it, just to see if I could stand it more than feeling any need for it--but am feeling inspired to experiment more seriously. Lately, my vision has not been as good as I'd like, and I would love to get rid of my reading glasses, as well as just generally move the lymph.
I can see doing it like this! after a bath; jumping onto the commode. well, i should say: easing onto it. No sense being rash. The bathroom being warm.... That sounds ideal.
Now the trick is, to do this in winter, when one is inclined to seek warmth. Easier would be to accustom oneself to it when the weather is warmer. Let's see....
And I look forward to seeing (;-))that you DO "survive". I have dear ones with eye issues, including one D who's had many drugs for keeping down eye pressure, almost went blind, and now tests for lymphoma. I wonder if he would do the sitz baths... maybe
You know who would be interested in this? MH, on the Barefoot
forum. He has for a long time talked up the sitz bath...
You might also be interested in Dr. Christopher's Eyewash formula, which includes cayenne (among other ingredients). If you look into cayenne, (puns abound!) you find it is a phenomenal FOOD. And, it speeds the delivery of all other foods aka herbs. We don't tend to think of cayenne that way. The formula does great things.
What is it about people, that we always imagine more is better???? You would almost say we/they must inwardly think little of our/themselves. I'm recommnding your post. Hope someone R's it. We need more *thoughtful* self-experimentation of the proven old ways, and reporting on curezone.
Glaucoma runs in my family, so I truly appreciate this info and the detailed explanation of how to do the BD. It sounds so simple to do. I also really like that you explained what effects this sits bath had on yourself and the other person.
Sounds like a powerful method, to be used with care.
I'm glad the post was RR - rated.
I also agree that MH would be likely be interested in this info. It fits right in with his "one cure cures all" belief system.
Well, as you and Chiron suggested, I posted this on MH's forum and the response was quite nasty. I am glad that you at least seemed happy with what I shared.
Well, I am off to my BD anyway...
:-D
I was VERY excited to see your original post and follow-up. Various sitz baths & their proper technique & usage has always been something I've wanted to study & research further...and your posts triggered me to do some Googling and find a VERY good ebook on friction sitz baths!
MH? :::eyeroll::: I commend you for not replying and trying to defend yourself and your intent.
Anyway, I am SURE that I am going to learn more, experiment and use the information you provided (along with all that I learn) to help many (many!) people over the upcoming years. There's a gal on my forum dealing with glaucoma now and I'm betting your information & my follow up research is going to be VERY beneficial in her overcoming her glaucoma!
What kinds of surgery? My mother had surgery on her eye for diabetic retinopathy and is experiencing pain because of the glaucoma in that eye. I think the two conditions together are causing her serious problems. She has even resorted to taking ibuprophen so she can sleep at night. (I told her to be taking turmeric force instead - same effect.) Anyway, she hasn't had much relief since they did this thing. I wonder if the sitz bath would help. It sure seems like it could be a huge piece of the cure for both conditions, though I have made a list of supplements for her to take that should help open up her blood vessels to increase circulation to the eye.
So, what do you think? Maybe even just for a few minutes? I think it is has been a month since she had the surgery.
I have no experience with it so nothing to say one way or the other. I try to report only on stuff I have personally experienced.
It sounds like a good idea though. Did you try it? And how?
Best :-D
...for many different purposes. I just made a post here http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=1903242
regarding this, and there's a free partial ebook download especially about the friction sitz bath as taught & used by Kuhne (and later by Guillain)
The ice cubes part : if your bathroom is very warm, the water warms up pretty fast, since some of your own heat is transferred to it too. When your BD lasts over a few minutes you will find that the water is not cool anymore.
And :
I don't like getting up and changing the water in the middle of the procedure.
This is why :
Unlike some other types of sitz baths, this is NOT ONLY about moving the lymph. A very important effect of the BD is the stimulation of parasympathetic nerve impulses. If you just spread your cold water fretting because it takes too long, if you are stressed in any way, because you are cold, you are in an uncomfortable position etc..., you are missing half of the point. This is why it is not a good idea to read, listen to the news bulletin etc... while doing it. You should just concentrate on what you are doing and on the feelings experienced all over your body.
When your sympathetic effect is activated, you will feel very relaxed, sometimes you hear a humming sound in your ears, you start seeing slightly better, it is a pleasant experience. In fact, you could have gone on longer that prescribed.
In fact when you have finished you are very relaxed. You have just given to your body a few minutes when stress has been deactivated. I found that by doing this regularly I can recall more easily during the day in other activities that slight internal tremor that signals the spread of the anti-stress response. Maybe this is also a retraining of the nervous system? Maybe BD can help you reverse the stress training we are subject to at work? I suspect so.
Today for me is only day 38 I think. I shall report later if you are interested :-D
