I'm not sure if anybody on here can give me some advice.
Everything I have read about Cutler's Protocol is concerning mercury poisioning caused by dental fillings, but does it work for all mercury poisoning regardless of the cause?
I have slightly elevated levels of mercury (blood and urine samples taken) after inhaling mercury vapour from an industrial process. I have basically been told by my doctor that there is no need to take any action, as my levels are not considered 'pathological'. I'm not particular happy with, or convinced by, the support I've received from my doctor/neurologist so am considering starting the Cutler Protocol.
Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.
Organic Hg readily crosses the blood brain barrier and can be converted to inorganic Hg. The latter has something like a 20 yr half life in the brain. It does not cross the bbb at a medically useful rate without assistance from something else such as Lipoic Acid. However beware of how you use LA or you'll be like these mice who ended up with *more* Hg in the brain. Cutler explains. http://onibasu.com/archives/am/74605.html
While it is preferable to work with a knowledgeable doctor we are fortunate that we often can get much improvement without such assistance. I got some support from my doctor but the majority of the most useful information came from Cutler and Boyd Haley, PhD chemists. http://noamalgam.com/
Joe, many thanks for all of the info; very helpful indeed.
It seems to be the consensus that Amalgam fillings should be removed before starting the protocol; do you think this it still necessary when the Amalgams weren't the cause of the mercury toxicity?
There is absolutely no debate among the Cutler people on this! Over my two years in the Cutler groups I've come across a couple of cases where just a spec of Amalgam that was left behind during removal seemed to be the culprit of the nasty sfx.
It certainly does not seem that it should be so, but the person got a followup xray which revealed the amalgam spec. It was removed and sfx diminshed.
Some of this is really strange to the average person. Maybe we just don't realize how much Hg is actually in an amalgam in terms of toxic potential.
Many people face a difficult situation with their crowns. There are more than a few cases where amalgam was put under the crown. This Hg can cause symptoms. Cutler group moderators suggest that the crowns be lifted and checked for amalgam; however some people decide to roll the dice and see if they get sfx until they get the $ to have the crowns checked.
If a person cannot afford to remove amalgam, there are still a number of things he or she can do with supplements to help to offset the effects of Hg and HMs! More on that if you request.
My best guess is to use lots of antioxidants, including selenium which Cutler seems to think helps to passivate mercury.
You could do plenty of things to remove mercury while Amalgam is present; however the ultimate goal is not to remove mercury, it is to be healthy. If you kick up mercury you'll increase the odds that it will end up in parts of the body that are quite vulnerable to it and also hold onto it rather tightly.
