I too have severe food allergies and I cannot tolerate the Detox Essentials. I am now almost to week 8 of the plan.
What I have discovered, as I have progressed through the plan, is that my food allergies have temporarily worsened. I read somewhere that this could be due to Candida detaching from the intestinal wall which leaves the intestines temporarily much more open and raw.
I am continuing with the plan without the Detox Essentials, but I do take 3 grams of vitamin C every day. I also have been taking colostrum which helps with immune response.
I have been reading up about leaky gut (intestinal permeability) and have learned a great deal. There are supplements you can take that address leaky gut, namely l-glutamine (colostrum is good for that too). Also bone broths made from bones of chicken or beef (preferably organic) are supposed to help.
What I am really excited about, however, is a different supplement called SeaCure and its companion supplement called SeaVive. For some reason it seems that amino acids, properly broken down into very small peptides, can be extremely healing. So far I am quite pleased with the progress I am making by using the SeaCure combined with the McCombs plan (and the other supplements I'm taking as well). Because my leaky gut is so severe, my candida is probably very severe as well. I expect to be on the McCombs plan for several weeks longer that the standard 16 weeks. But as long as I keep making progress, I'm okay with that. For me this is my last resort program: it's either health here on out or bust.
Good luck to you and your quest to heal that leaky gut!
