Hello,

Does anyone know the best therapist in L.A. for childhood emotional abuse, growing up in dysfunctional family with alcoholic mother, etc?

I love the work of John Bradshaw, his Inner Child work and other methods would be great if someone knew of an LA therapist who adopt his methods?

Any referrals would come greatly appreciated.

Getwellsoon, I would strongly caution anyone against seeking "referrals" for ANY professional through an online forum. The best method to find an appropriate counseling therapist is by contacting your local Mental Health hotline - I really dislike the term, "mental health," because most issues aren't "mental," at all. It should be termed, "Emotional Health." I digress.

Contact the local mental health hotline and explain to them the type of counseling therapist you are seeking. They will provide several names. If you have mental health insurance coverage, then contact your provider and ask for the names of therapists that cover your specific issues.

Most important, don't let fear of stigma prevent you from seeking the help that you're looking for! Talk openly and frankly with whomever you speak with, and I assure you that you'll find the best therapist for yourself!
