I have been on this juice fast for 3 days now. I feel bloated, constipated and have not lost any weight, and have had no bowel movements so far. Instead I have gained 3 lbs. I drink 2: 16 oz of juice daily. Juice 1: kale, cucumber, Celery , green apple and ginger. Juice 2: Carrots, beets, ginger and red apple. I drink water and I walk every day. I need to lose 40 lbs. I have gained lots of weight after I had my last child 4 years ago. My tummy still looks like i'm pregnant and I suffered from food addiction. I am really trying to stick to this, but feel like giving up and eat again. What went wrong??
From what I can tell you are on a juice fast (only juice?) and are only consuming 32 oz of nutrients a day... It seems to me that your body is holding onto whatever it can as you are not providing it with enough nutrition. The Bowel Movements coming to a stop are not a huge surprise either as you have no fiber or roughage to assist moving your intestines. You may want to consider...
8-16oz of water upon waking followed by
16oz fresh prune juice (that will help get those bowels started)
Then enjoy an additional 6-7 (16oz) fresh juice drinks a day (about 1 gallon of juice).
You want to be receiving enough nutrients, juice flushing should not be a starvation diet, rather a break to allow your body to flush all the built up junk. To assist in the flushing of the junk you may also want to consider a bowel cleanse during the flush. This will assist in creating bowel movements, relieve some of the additional things you are experiencing, and help restore greater health. My favorite it Dr. Schulze Bowel Cleanse. Here is a book all about it that you can read for free online. And here is a link to a much cheaper version of the bowel cleansing herbs from an amazing student of Schulze!
Personal testimony... I went on a juice flush to help heal myself of an incurable disease. It was not my intention to lose weight but sure enough after juice flushing now for 2 (30 day periods) broken up by the holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years) I had lost 40-50 lbs. I am probably a little below my ideal weight at this time but I am slowly putting it back on with healthy eating and proper nutrition. I hope this helps. Also check out Schulze's other books (one of my favorites: 20 Powerful Steps to a Healthier Life) he's really big on the juice flushing.
Thanks for your response. I thought I was drinking too much juice, too much calories from the juice. I gallon, isn't that too much calories. I will increase the juice and see what happens. No bowel movements and bloating, not a good thing.I think my colon is probably clogged up. I will also try the colon cleanse as well.
1 gallon is a substantial amount of calories, remember though a flush should not be a starvation diet. The calories received from fresh squeezed juices are usable nutrient calories that your body can use to cleanse and detoxify itself not junk calories like refined, processed, dead foods that we consume primarily as part of our SAD (standard american diet) these calories your body stores a fat.
a Colon Cleanse would be an excellent idea - especially if you had a relatively bad diet before. It would even help with nutrient absorbtion which would help during the fast.
But you would definitely drop some abdominal inches and get rid of the bloating after the colon cleanse is done. One other thing too - it would also help move toxins from the fast out the back door so to speak.
Cleansing before a fast is always an excellent idea - but during would be second best IMO.
Hi - I am new to this forum...but prune juice alone kept your bowels moving. I am going to do a raw liquid diet to give my digestive system a rest and heal, but I am concerned about not having a bowel movement and I don't want to drink senna tea everyday - I read that it was bad for you. THANKS!
My body really needs a detox and cleanse. 3 day on my juice fast, no weight loss, no bowel movements, and I gained 3 lbs and am bloated. Frustrating. I guess i need something to get the bowels moving, or maybe I'm not drinking enough juice and water.
Congrats on preparing to do the flush, it will give your body what it needs to rest and restore. You are right Prune juice alone can keep many people's bowel's moving. However some people have very sluggish and constipated bowels that require some additional assistance, thus the bowel cleanse recommendation. I would also be interested in knowing what first hand experience the person who wrote about senna tea has or if it is all just "scientific" book knowledge. While Schulze's cleanse does not include senna tea, senna is one of the ingredients in his formula. Interestingly it has been used for centuries to assist in the jump starting and toning of the bowel muscle throughout many ancient and modern societies. It's role is to give the bowel the nutrition it needs to operate on its own.
From first hand experience I can tell you it is excellent at this and unlike coffee, enemas, and other stimulus it is not addicting, toxic, nor does it take the place of the bowels work. If I were you I'd carefully consider the information you read.
I think PI recommendations are right on point. What I would add is not to focus so much on numbers on the scale and see being overweight as a "health issue" and not some isolated event. Juice feasting and healthy weight loss is not about calorie restriction but about consuming nutrient dense juices that will aid the system to cleanse and feed you some mega readily absorbable nutrition that will facilitate the body's own inherent natural process to heal you and shed the toxins that are the basic cause of your weight issue.
As things have evolved in the healing and nutrition arts in my view the state of the art is juice "feasting". Below is a link to an online PDF that pretty much gives you specific guidelines on what juice feasting involves. BTW the author Angela Stokes was morbidly obese and turned her life around through raw foods and juice feasting. Lots of videos on YouTube with her telling her story and also lectures. You may also want to search YT for "Dave the Raw Food Trucker" for inspiration of his amazing healing journey which he cured some terminal cancers, diabetes and morbid obesity through juice feasting
