Believe it or not, most of us have experienced the symptoms of detoxification, or what I like to call a “healing crisis.” We just stayed home from work because we thought we had a cold, the flu, or a stomach bug.
I could tell you stories! In fact, I think that’s just what I’ll do—tell you some true stories that illustrate why I strongly believe that cleansing and detoxification are the answer to all of mankind’s woes. Well, that they’re huge pieces of the healthy lifestyle puzzle, anyway.
My Story of “Raw”
I have been some version of “raw” for almost 25 years. I worked at the world-renown Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida for several years, running their Health Educator Course and interfacing with the guests on a daily basis as a Program Counselor. And I have been writing about and teaching raw food and alternative health for 16 years.
Oh, and I’m going to be 70 pretty darn soon. But I feel like a healthy, energetic, vibrant, busy 40-something-year old. Back in my 20’s-40’s, however, I dragged through life with never enough energy and all kinds of maladies, including undiagnosed celiac disease, fibromyalgia, sinusitis, digestive disorders, allergies, depression, and did I mention hardly enough energy to get through the day let alone be joyous and creative?......................... http://renegadehealth.com/blog/2012/04/12/does-the-detoxification-process-really-exist/
Hey Chris, happy Friday the thirteenth- I always take it as a good day; a day when the fear-mongering mass-minded will be otherwise engaged with distractions, leaving the peace-loving to roam the sunlit streets, and spread the unimpeachable truth, for the good of all.
What a great thing to post. Thank you for that. That people still debate this is quite astounding, and yet, those that can't imagine water fasting FOR health are alas, living under the shadow of fear-- fear of the body's attacking them. It is quite curious, when it's we that erroneously work so hard at driving the so-called enemy (or disease) within! It's akin to guarding a town from a mythical terror that's 'out there', by determinedly turning the 'enemy' toward the centre of town, driving it *inside*, where the only place to go is down, deep into the sewers, so to speak.
(or up to the heights, to take over all thought.)
Metaphor for the alimentary tract, from top to bottom.
When she speaks of her hands curling into little claws, I almost gasped. Like a shrimp! was my thought. And indeed, we "are" what we eat, so some of that dna, that shrimp consciousness goes into the body-mind.
Further down the page you link to, in the comments, is an article (link) that also looks worth reading, though I don't have time now; just scanned it---concerning the "last frontier"...biologically speaking. The human biodome (I think it's called; the fact that we are only a small percent 'ourselves' and are mainly made up of countless other life forms): this is also very pithy to a solid understanding of how it's the whole lifestyle -as a jewel of good health- that counts, of which water fasting is but one facet. But a a true window! When you first cut a raw rough diamond, you open up a window, so you can see how the rest should be dealt with, and what to remove, in order that you are left with the very best. Lovely to see you here.
Thank you Chris. This is an important message and reminder that healing crises are real and that we need to endure through them when fasting to bring our healing to realization. Too many will experience such symptoms and falsely believe it's because they have gone into nutrient deficiency and hurriedly break the fast, a misconception widely perpetuated in a society that has absolutely no idea what's really going on, including those who are in the medical establishment.
The lie that there is no such thing as detox seems to be mainstreams way of propagandizing people, making them believe that they need to rely on so called modern medicine (pharmacea/witch doctory) to maintain their good health, a filthy lie from the enemies of truth.
Another type of misconception is as follows. I had a girlfriend who went on a 10 day juice fast, her first fast of any kind all her life which i had encouraged her towards... and she did an amazing job with it. By the end of this fast, she was feeling better than she had in many years. By juicing instead of having only water, it was a gradual enough cleansing to produce no healing crisis.
When she broke the fast she was unwaveringly convinced that she desperately needed protein so she had a normal sized (for a person who hadn't been fasting) helping of chicken on day one against all of my literature and experience backed warnings... and immediately began to feel terrible.
What did she blame for this, the chicken long before her body was ready to digest it? No! She concluded that the juice fast which through her own words had made her feel better than she had felt in many years (until eating the chicken) messed up her body!
I hope you don't mind a question about non-waterfasting? If I am breaking the rules, please let me know. :)
What type of juice fast would you recommend? Does it depend on what type of conditions you are targeting? For instance, I have adrenal and digestive issues (possibly anemia - ridges in fingernails). Are there any particular vegetables or blends that may be good for someone who isn't quite up to the water fasting for long periods?
I think the best choice vegetables for a juice fast (or feast) is to use a wide variety of juices to ensure you're getting a broad spectrum of nutrients.
Carrots, Cucumbers, Lettuces, Cabbage, Bell Peppers, & Celery all juice very well.
You can experiment with different blends, I like Carrot by itself, or with celery or lettuces. And lettuces, caggage, cucumber, are good mixed together and the bell peppers add a lot flavor to those green mixtures.
And remember to break your juice fast sensibly, just as you would a water fast... Obviously a generous serving of chicken isn't ideal.

Hi teenee,
I don't mind at all, but if we both get banned it was nice knowing you ;).

I haven't studied this in a while (i haven't done a substantial juice feast of my own in maybe 15 years) and while i do agree with Edberg that variety is great in most situations, i would also recommend that you do some research as to which juices are considered to be the most beneficial for the specific issues you are concerned with so that you can be sure to include them.
Of course i highly recommend juicing your own (pestacide free) produce, drinking soon after juicing before the live enzymes begin to oxidize (and die off) which is said to be within 5 minutes unless you are able to tightly kerr jar it to keep it from oxygen. It is also ideal to use organics as much as realistically possible.
Best wishes with this. Do you intend to do any water only fasting as well?
Thank you for sharing. And yes, its been nice knowing you...um...well, I'm still here, you still here? :)
I do want to do some long water fasting since hearing all the wonderful health benefits (plus my tummy felt so good when I did the last two real brief ones). The only catch is I think I am deficient in vitamins C and B5 which affects the adrenals adversely so I may need to supplement some with juices high in those vitamins. I so want to fast, and need to, for health but even more important to grow closer to the Lord, which should be my primary motivation.
I have been looking on curezone for success stories of people fasting with adrenal deficiencies but there isn't a lot of information on it. Chrisb has been real encouraging though. So I am hoping to keep extending the water fasting with the clean eating in between. Is that the right approach?
Thanks for this Chris! Enjoyed the article a lot! Detoxification is REAL!
Last week I was feeling strong...working in the yard etc. Figuring everything I've been doing the last few years is working. ie rebuilding adrenals, thyroid, Iodine & Vit D supplementation and other vitamins etc. And the occasional green smoothie...and other things...
This last few days I've been drinking about 32 oz's of green smoothies a day and doing 2 coffee enema's etc. And I feel like I'm 1000 yrs old. lol!
