That was 48 days ago: 27th of February. Doesn’t time just fly by!
I’ve been on iodone/ Iodide for five and a half months now.
Since the last post I’ve changed a few things:
- added boron (as borax): this has finally killed off the candida
- added adrenal pills (dessicated adrenals)
- added vitamin A (retinol)
- added vit K (K2 as MK4)
- stopped taking so much bicarb
- B12 sublingually
- no more hypo-T pills (T3 or T4): hooray!
I feel that especially the adrenal pills have made big difference. I no longer lose my energy at about 15:00. I can finish the day now on a normal energy level.
The adrenal pills and the boron also made a big change in my periods: last menstrual period was the first painless one in five years and the first ill-free one in 20 years. They are pretty fierce though: I bleed a lot in just a few days.
I still have intermittent bleeding: I bleed off and on all the time, but only a little. Does anyone know what this is about?
My candida is gone: I can eat carbs again – no problem, it’s amazing. I think the boron did this. I’m taking it faithfully now, every day. I am still carefull though with the carbs.
Today two collegues where down with hey fever. I hadn’t even realised the season had begun yet! No more allergies for me!
My liver is still having a hard time. My tongue is swollen and you can clearly see the teeth marks at the edges. I’m taking liver support and drinking a lot of water. Also I’m salt loading often. I’m also taking extra selenium to pick up more mercury. I’m a bit at a loss here: can anyone tell me if they have a good tip? Maybe I’m mistaken and it is not the liver?
I always start with 50 mg I2 / I- in the form of Lugols (15%) in the morning. I put the drops in ACV with a lot of luke warm water added to it. Then later in the day I add SSKI.
When I take too little SSKI, I revert to hypo-T: dry skin, hoarsness, feeling cold, empty leggs when cycling, no energy, sleeeeeepy (but not sleeping well), problems with concentration and problem solving. My minimum level of SSKI is 500 mg daily. Which probably means I’m pretty toxic. Whenever I take less, I get the hypo-T symptoms.
When I take 1500 mg of SSKI or more, I get terrible headaches and neckpains and lower back pains. This is when my tongue really starts to swell big time. I always have the teeth marks at the edges, sometimes better, sometimes worse. But when I take 1500 mg or more of SSKI, they get really bad. I assume that is because too much bad stuff is released at the same time and my poor battered liver is not coping? Or maybe my kidneys? I cannot drink enough water or salt load fast enough to stay ahead of the pain.
So I stay at a level of about 750 mg a day: well above the minimum of 500 mg and also well beneath the level that results in pain.
Basic Ingredients (I use organic)
• 2 medium size bananas (if you like them wetter: add a banana)
• 75 gram real butter, soft or melted: use grass-fed
• 190 gram uncooked quick-cooking gluten-free oats (NOT Quaker)
• 75 gram raisins
• 65 gram walnuts
• 1 teaspoon Sea Salt
I make these cookies entirely in the food processor:
1. I start by pulsing the bananas until they are a thin puree
2. add the other ingredients and pulse until smooth
3. add all of the oatmeal and pulse again. It takes only a couple of quick pulses
4. now put this mixture into a bowl and look if it properly combined. If some oats remain dry, then carefully add little water.
5. Heat oven to 180 °C.
6. Let the cookie batter stand for about five minutes
7. Now spread the mixture evenly over the baking sheets, as thinly as possible. Then draw lines in this mixture, separating it into individual cookies
8. Bake for approximately 20 minutes or until the cookies are lightly browned.
9. Remove to a wire rack to cool and let the cookies dry a little further by taking them off the baking sheets directly onto the rack.
And this is maybe a little O/T, but also a good use for SSKI. My husband sowed some koriander seeds a while ago. They got moldy after a while: nicely firr coated. I felt bad for him, so I sprinkled some SSKI over the seeds and gave them another chance. This morning I glanced into the pot and: mold = gone and seedlings are appearing. I wonder how big this koriander will grow lol.
I use SSKI when I want to make things keep longer: I often make a big pot of soup (enough for a whole week or two), cool it and then add some drops of SSKI. It makes it keep forever in the fridge.
Good health everyone! And thanks for all the help! Can't thank you all enough! Trapper for the advise on adrenal pills and Ginagirl for all the advise on supps! And Wombat on the wheat free! Thanks!
Both the tongue swelling with tooth marks and the heavy periods are signs of possible hypothyroidism. You may be anemic, and helping that would also help your thyroid metabolism. Also, along with the adrenal support you might try some thyroid support. Taking your temps three times a day at 3, 6, and 9 hours after getting up and then averaging them will show where you are with respect to 98.6.
that recipe sounds good except I'd try to figure out a way to make it with steel-cut oats, they're so much tastier and more nutritious. I did make some cookies with them once, used leftover cooked oats....
I think that that recipe would work with cooked(and cooled) steel-cut oats:) I know, I'm a nag. STEEL-CUT! Steel-CUT!
as far as the spotting is concerned, all sorts of menstrual irregularities have been reported here. As far as I can remember, they all normalized. I stopped bleeding altogether for 7 months.
Great to see this update. Borax is the candida killer, and also a mold killer for your seeds if you like. I use it for my plants, but they need a tiny tiny bit. Even my orchidees love a small pinch a month.
Your cookies sounds great for those who like sweets. Here is my gluten free salty crisp bread, even my 12 year old loved it; and he hates "seeds" in his bread, normally.
200 gram of pumkin seeds, finely chopped. (zinc)
50 gram of linseed
50 gram of sesame seeds
Optional; 100 gram of bran; wheat or oatbran.
2 tablespoons of fiber / psyllium husk powder; this is the binder
1 teaspoon of Sea Salt .
2 cups of hot water.
A couple of drops of Iodine doesnt hurt.
Soak the pumpkin seeds and linseeds in the hot water for 10 minutes, add the rest of the ingredients.
Adjust with water or husk to a firm spreadable mass.
spread the mix thinly over a baking tray, sprinkle a little salt on top. Bake for half an hour in 170 C, then slice with a pizza cutter. Back in the oven for an hour on a cooking grate at approx 100 C for drying.
Justthinking: what is thyroid support? Is that a special kind of blend of supps?
"Both the tongue swelling with tooth marks and the heavy periods are signs of possible hypothyroidism." So I still might by hypo-T? Haven't considered that actually. But you might be right: I still have difficulty staying warm and do not have nearly as much energy as say my father who is 70! I do have so much more energy than I did a year ago though, so for me it feels like I'm fixed! I'll look into this. It will probably just taken time for the Iodine to slowly repair the damage that's done. But could it also mean I need more iodine?
I have major fibroids going on in my breasts. Maybe I have them in my uterus as well? That may explain some of the strange periods, apart from the hypo-T of course.
I paint my breasts every day twice, including the nipples since two days: thanks Ginagirl. I paint with 5% Lugols. I have 15% Lugols and just dilute it. My skin tolerates 5% just fine. My breasts are swollen right now and painful. I'm having a period right now. When I lift my arm (either) a thick bit of tough tissue stays stuck to the start of the breast, while the rest hangs down. I'm pretty sure that though bit is not supposed to be there.
I was already taking iron, but not nearly as much as was suggested in the article that Wombat referred to: 100 mg a day! I will up my iron. It is probably a good idea, since I'm bleeding so much. I already take B12, should I also start taking extra folic acid (I take 50 mcg daily at the moment).
:-) Okay! Okay! I hear you :-) I will try to find steel cut oats somewhere. We're in a rural area and choices are limited. I'll probably have to order from the UK. Wonder if they taste differently.
Ginagirl: the koriander now has some borax too. I also gave some to my vine, last year it was covered in some fungi like stuff and produced no grapes, maybe this'll help. Hmmm, we're having a mold problem in the bathroom ....
Wombat: I do feel differently. I'm no longer going back and forth between hypo and hyper. So I'm feeling more peaceful and less panicky.
It turns out I was taking too much borax: 168 mg, which provides 18 mg of boron (11%). I use a very tiny spoon and then only the tip, but that is already too much as it turns out. I have a precision scale now. This amount of boron gives me extremely dry skin. I was taking this daily!
Ginagirl: you say you use 1/8 tspn, but 1/8 of my tspn weighs 800 mg! You probably have smaller teaspoons?
Just finished reading your earlier post and this latest thread and found all the posts very interesting! I have been taking Iodine for years [ Lugol's & then/now Iodoral] but I think now my doses have been way too low [1 cap!]. Time to up the dosage and see what happens. I'm self diagnosed with hypo and adrenal fatigue. Am also 10 years post menopause and hormones are still all over the place, but I digress, that is a whole other issue!
Is the borax everyone is talking about that stuff in a box that is used for cleaning? 20 Mule Team Borax? Or is it something else? I am thinking that I have candidiasis as well, but haven't had success in killing it off YET despite tons of sups, diet changes, etc. On a side not, I also have grape vines that don't get enough sun and tend to get mold and am wondering if the borax would help with that since you or someone mentioned grape vines.
I am just AMAZED at how well you all are able to know what to take at what doses and how your body reacts to it all. Wow, I hope the higher iodine will clear MY brain fog so I can concentrate and keep track of stuff like that!

I dont recommend Mule Team internally as it may contain additives.
At the pharmacy you may get hold of a 100 % pure borax, or you may order at mountain rose herb; they have a cosmetical grade borax that all my household loves (cats, plants, humans) except the mold on my balcony.
Plants love boron, just keep it low. To much of a good thing etc..
My cats get a tiny pinch in their water (+one drop of iodine), almost every day. Keep them healthy, no vet bills.
My plants get a tiny pinch once or twice a month. More if mold is present.

-Yes, one should all have precision scales :-) 800 mg is to much as it would give 88 mg of boron. Maybe my teaspoons are smaller, oops!
ps; have tested dosages even higher than this; non toxic but a dry skin appeared. (gone in 3 days whithout B)
I would stop for a few days then take approx 150-300 mg of borax that would give the therapeutic dosage around 16-30 mg of boron. (female-man dosage)
If the skin still feels dry, take every second day or even less. A little boron goes a long way; totally opposite of iodine.
I'm sorry I missed your post before now. Don't know how that happened :) All I meant by "thyroid support" was along the same lines of the adrenal supplement you're taking, except of whole thyroid glands. Then I saw that you referenced not having to take T3 or T4 anymore, so maybe whole thyroid glands isn't something to pursue. The whole constellation of fibrocystic breasts and uterine fibroids and poor energy reflects low thyroid/low iodine, with probable involvement of low iron and weak adrenal function. You've made quite a few changes lately, so it might be time to let things settle and then see how you feel.
