  • Bacterial Over Growth.. SIbO ? by  UnCanned  14 mon  1,794  Candida Support / Ulcerative
I finally received my stool test results and they are showing:

    Beneficial Bacteria
    =============
Lactobacillus species - 0 (No Growth)
    Eschericha coli - 4+
    Bifodobacterium - 4+

    ==== Additional / Bad Bacterias ===
    alpha haemolytic streptococcus - 4+
    gamma haemolytic streptococcus - 4+
    (PATHOGEN) Pseudomonas aeruginsa 4+
    Klebsiella pneumoniae 3+
    Enterobacter cloacae 3+

I also have low Pancreatic Elastase (359) which I believe is due to the bad bacteria, and possibly the high # of pancreatin supplements I need and thus causing my own pancreas to secrete less (2003 study).

What I`m confused about is how do I know if this is SiBO or if it's in my large intestine / colon ?

I've been taking one form of probiotics for over a year, so having NO Lactobacillus species is somewhat alarming!

My health problems are that I CANNOT eat anything w/out Pancreatin or it will NOT digest, cause constipation, water diarrhea, and can visually see the undigested food particles. (Greens, tiny chunks of meat, fiber, etc).

Country Life Pancreatin is my life saver at this time, I take 4(1 serving)-8 w/each meal and am able to function like normal. I eat 0 carbs, 0 sugar (other than bananas). I am on a VERY strict diet.

How do I know if this is SIBO or colon infection and where to start ?

I thought I had Candida based on my symptoms (and I may still) but now that it's not present, and I for sure have other issues I'd like to address these.

There is a breath test, the hydrogen breath test. This will test you for SIBO.

Do you have bloating when you eat carbs (w/o taking enzymes)? it almost sounds like your food that is not being digested/absorbed is going to the colon and causing all sorts of overgrowths. Except lactobacillus for some reason - but I read that one lives in the small intestine - that could be why

You are correct. For half of 2011 I was still eating carbs, and lots of them and you described the feeling. Gas generation in the colon.

I can feel the gas forming in my colon if I don't have enzymes. It starts to bubble, and bubble, and I have gas and have to make 8-12 trips to the bathroom per-day if I'm not supplement with enzymes.

With enzymes I may have gas 2-3 times per-day, and normal bowel movement after breakfast in the AM, then maybe one at night.

I`m just wondering what's the best way to get rid of these bad bacteria, and get my health back. Obviously something in my small intestines isn't allowing the food to be broken down, and now bad bacteria have taken over (in small and/or large).

Here is something from Dr MyHill on how to address bacteria overgrwoth in the small intestine. If you click on her link to pancreas, she discusses that also. Specifically she mentions Gallstones and oxidative stress.

Soemthing seems to be going on with your pancreas. I have severe upper bloating yet don't have the malabsorption yo have. So i"m not sure if bacteria can cause that much of a problem on it's own or not or if the pancreas is teh root cause of this.

I've done a lot of work on oxidative stress in myself and can help with that.

I hope that helps for a start.

            THanks, I`ll check that out.

I should note that I've had blood work done and my pancreas comes back normal and so does my gall bladder.

I've had UltraSound of my abdomen specifically looking for Gallstones and found none, and none blocking my bile duct. (What I'd thought)

I`m tempted to do a Gall flush to make sure there are no micro stones / deposits blocking the bile ducts.

That's good it's not your gallbladder or a stone blocking the duct.

Was teh bloodwork looking for amylase in the blood ? If it's high that means inflammation (or I've also read can mean leaky gut). But in your case, since you are maybe not producing enough enzymes, the amylase wouldn't be high in the blood.

Your situation is a puzzle for sure.

I hope you read that stuff on oxidative stress. It's worth ruling out for sure. There is someone who owns a site 'newtreatments.org' who had crohns for years. He finally was albe to eat starches again after he took massive doses of Iodine and alpha lipoic acid. He did this to chelate but the reality is iodien is antiseptic and alpha lipoic acid is a fat soluble antioxidant. I think maybe he corrected an oxidative situation there and his digestive processes resumed. He says he eats whatever he wants now - lucky.

Also one of your bacteria - prevotella apparently can only be treated with bile acids accoridng to that site I sent earlier.

                Thanks!

I actually am waiting on my iodine/ Iodide to arrive, and have started taking CoQ10 recently.

I`m trying to hit this from all angles and make sure I am 100% healthy to aid in the healing.

Which of my bacterias need bile salts ? I didn't mention prevotella is that another name for something I mentioned ?

                Thanks!

Oh I'm sorry, I must have mistaken your pseudonomas for provotella.

Great about the coq10. I just now sent my urine to france for teh isoprostane test which tests for oxidation of fats. I've been working on this for a while.

No problem! Thanks for the research.

Yeah, there's so much more than just having an infection, or just having candida (not that those are a "just")... but I think being overall more healthy is important too.

I lost 20 pounds since 15 months ago, and at that time I was right on target for ideal based on BMI, now I`m under weight. Unfortunately the only way for me to keep weight on is to eat lots of carbs or peanut butter, and I stopped carbs a long time ago, and peanut butter recently as I think it's causing inflammation! [Valencia Organic FWIW]

Organic Almonds seem to cause discomfort during digestion but I haven't tried them away from peanut butter, so that's a test coming soon. It's just too bad organic almond butter cost so much!!

I`m open for any suggestions for Bacterial Infection killing!!

Maybe high vitamin c dosage throughout the day ?

Anyone have experience with my specific pathogens / bacteria ?

Yeah, its important to be overall healthy. But I'm thinking fixing the oxdiative stress, if presnet, might help the digestion. I got that from that website by Dr. Myhill.

Funny you mention the C , on her website she also mentions using vitamin C to sterilize the upper gut. And somone who used to post here, TonyOrlando used that as part of his regimen and he completely healed.

                      -
That is where she discusses vitamin C and also other strategies for the overgrwoths.

I have 'CFS' and have spent much too much time focusing on strategies for cFS and I think the fatigue has been coming from the bowel overgrwoths all along. So, just getting started with this aspect.

BTW, did your CDSA do some sensitivity testing ? THat might be helpful too.
Have you heard of the metametrix GI panel ? it also tests for the main anaerobe in the gut - bacteroides which is missing from the CDSA

Have you looked into heavy metals as a cause of your problems. Any Amalgam fillings or vaccinations in the past.

You know, I did have a filling put on the front of my tooth for a chip a couple months before symptoms started.

Would my symptoms get worse though if it was a filling?
                          Mine have gotten SLOWLY worse.

Funny you mention that, I was thinking this morning I wanted to start taking my milk thistle again, as I'd been taking it for the last 6 months or so, and since I stopped I've felt like I've slowed down a bit.

I`m going to call the dentist today to see when they did the filling, and what was used.

Filling March 2009 - Resin / Composite (White) on front tooth, facing forward.

Ironically, in Apr. 2009 I had a kidney stone.

I had no digestive symptoms until Sept. 2010, and then they got worse Nov. 2010, and since around Dec. 2010/Jan 2011 I've been taking some sort of Enzyme, and since then they've gotten worse requiring more, and more enzymes.

Mar 1. 2011 I got a bug while traveling and was sick for 2 weeks, very bad. I NEVER get sick, in fact this is still the only time i've been sick in the last 3 or so years, and prior to that was strep-throat from someone on a plane while traveling. I`m normally never sick, active, and very healthy... although I do lead a sedentary lifestyle 6 days a week due to my profession (on computer).

June 2011 I did a gallstone flush, and flushed a lot of marble sized stones, and some of the silvery flakes that float. My Ultra Sound now shows no stones. All my doctors don't believe me that I even had any stones since I`m 30, but they can think that I know what I saw in my cleanse / detox. Now, I`m wondering if maybe some of those flakes are stuck in my bile ducts? (But I have no problem digesting fat, and have had a LOT when I was going through Peanut Butter jars every 3 days to keep weight on.)

(Blood tests show proper functioning of my liver, kidney, and whatever else organs they could tell, white blood cell counts were good, and Ultra Sound showed no organ enlargement or issues they said.)

I`m thinking maybe I should do another Gall Stone flush ??

I did just start taking Dr. Christopher's Liver/Gall Formula today to see if that can help me at all, and I could FEEL my gallbladder again the first time since I had my cleanse last summer. Not sure if that's good or not but maybe it's trying to push out some flakes/tiny stones that the UltraSound couldn't see ???

The UltraSound did discover a 5mm stone in my right kidney, but all else looked good.

Thanks everyone for the help, and suggestions.

Upon research I did have my largest filling put in years ago, and it was silver/mercury from the looks of it.

I`ll be following up tomorrow to see if it was in fact mercury, and I've already found a couple local holistic dentists who know how to safely remove it so I may go down that road to prevent any possible future problems, and be 100% sure and safe.

                          AYE!

                          So many things.
