Have been drinking water kefir for about a month. The first week I was fine. Then for two days I got a really runny nose and sinus issues, but that cleared on its own. Then I was fine again. At one point I thought it started causing me reactions, so I started eating the grains and not drinking the water. And that gave me kidney and liver pain (but no die-off). Went back on the water and was fine again (no reactions – must have been food). Well this weekend, I drank about 4 glasses during a 12-hour period. I was fine until Monday. But then got a terrible fever of almost 103. Could barely move. Took one advil which brought it down a bit. Monday morning I slept in a bit, and when I got up, I was totally fine. I believe I have leaky gut and know that I have candida per the CDSA test. My theory is – right before I started getting the fever, I had to use the bathroom. I’m wondering if the candida is in my colon, and the kefir traveled to the end of my digestive tract and started to go ape on the fungus. And that gave me die-off. I’ve done the diet and the anti-fungals like oregano oil, etc. But the diet is so tough for me because I’m allergic to almost all veggies and most other items on the paleo diet. I am really hoping kefir alone can cure me.. but I have my doubts. Anyone have any thoughts?
I drank cow’s milk kefir and had the same reaction very intense - not a fever though - but streaming nose and blocked ears. Terrible, terrible reaction and too much to be dieoff. I had to go to a doctor to get my ears syringed.
I tried everything - I did 12 hour kefir and 24 hour kefir (to get rid of the sugar/milk). Finally I just drank the whey (more or less water) from making kefir cheese. I even tried kefir with raw milk.
There is an opinion that parasites feed off probiotics and, with my history of parasites, I have never been able to take them. I have tried Bio-acidophilus, Threelac, Kefir, fermented veg. You might find you are in the same boat.
I've taken probiotics no problem for 10 months. And i was drinking kefir water fine for a month or more, with a literally streaming nose just for one day. the last few days i've had some heart palpitations that had mostly gone away. i'm thinking either that i killed some fungus and opened up holes. or, that my body is beginning to attack the kefir bacteria. i just don't see how it could be the latter since i've been drinking it for a month.
