Luella, I know you have addressed this before but thought I'd ask specifically so I can fwd your answer to a granddaughter in Canada. Her cat has swollen gums but eats ok. Nothing has worked apparently. The vet is stumped as to what the problem is (?). I figure that CS is the answer but would appreciate your quick reply for her. Thanks a lot. Bill
Bill, CS is the answer. Because cats are not big water drinkers, she should use an oral syringe to give her cat colloidal silver several times a day. Of course, I recommend Utopia Silver. She can use coupon code LR001 to get a 15% discount if it's not on sale. This is the only silver we recommend, as is it a very high quality. But, I realize that with her cat's condition time is of the essence, so I suggest getting colloidal silver from a local source until her Utopia Silver order arrives.
Another question.......... What is she feeding her cat? Commercial foods are one source of oral infections. I recommend switching the cat to a raw diet. Cats on a raw diet do not suffer from oral infections and it also promotes overall health, as the cat is getting the nutrients it needs. Commercial foods lack important nutrients. Here is a link that will guide her to how to feed her cat a raw diet:
Luella, Thanks so much for your detailed reply. I have fwded it to my granddaughter in Canada. Her mother has a limited supply of Utopia CS and I am looking into the possibility of sending more to her if needed. Thanks again! Bill
After about a week I inquired as to her results. Here is her reply:
Hi Bill, I've been giving it twice a day for about a week (using a small syringe) and I haven't really seen any improvement. I used Karen's stuff for a bit, then bought my own at a health food store (also 20ppm). I'll keep trying until my bottle runs out, but I'm worried he'll need teeth pulled after all...
Thanks for looking into it. I appreciate your interest :)
Nicole
My guess is that she, Nicole by the way, didn't use much of the Utopia Silver, then went out and bought a bottle of "ECG Naturals 20 ppm", a Canadian product ??? I don't know how that compares with ours. I think she does not understand that she should use more, maybe afraid to use "too much". I wrote that she should get another bottle from her mother, my daughter, and USE it.I also urged her to contact you directly. Hope she does, otherwise, what else can we do?
Okay........ Is the product she got from the health food store ECG Naturals, or is she also using another product. Actually, if it is ECG Naturals, from what I read on their website, it should be effective. Has the cat improved any?
Also, what kind of diet is the cat eating. Commercial foods are not nutritionally sound and lead to oral infections. Cats should be fed a raw diet. Cats that eat a raw diet, as a rule enjoy good health and do not come down with periodontal disease.
Is the cat eating okay? Any drooling or bleeding of gums? There is a severe type of gyngivitis that is actually an autoimmune disorder.

Nicole is interested in the possibility of immune disorder. Here is her message to me:
Thanks Bill,
All symptoms are like I said, but no bleeding,
just really red and puffy/bulbous in spots.
Still eating fine. Had to go to vet food because
of the other digestive issues he had
(persistent loose stools that are now fixed).
I'm curious about the autoimmune disorder though.
Could she elaborate on that?
Thanks again,
Nicole
Can't really elaborate on that but it's just a possibility. A vet would have to determine the diagnosis.
I am confused too because there should at least be some improvement with colloidal silver. Unless something else is going on. Has she taken her cat in for a complete check up?

Thanks for your prompt reply. Earlier Nicole said that the cat had three laser therapy treatments which did not work. Then the vet proposed more tissue testing for $890. She held off on that! (First priority, $$$$$$!) I think she needs another vet for the next step. I questioned as to whether she had used enough CS. Oh well.
If it's a serious infection it may take time and yes, I would increase the colloidal silver dosage. What baffles me is that there is absolutely no improvement. What I would suggest is a holistic vet. The reason I say this is because more serious problems can also cause swollen gums. Regardless, I would continue giving the cat colloidal silver regularly. This can only help.

Got this message today from Nicole. I don't understand what she meant or if that was the best way out. Sincere thanks for your concern.
Hi Bill,
He's just home from surgery. He had 7 teeth pulled and his gum lumps sent out for testing. No FIV/FELV thankfully...they tested his blood for that.
Thanks for your interest and suggestions...just not a simple fix. He may need all teeth pulled eventually. Wish me luck!
Nicole :)
One other thing. What is a good brand of black salve and where available?
Black Salve? Gum lumps sent out for testing? Sounds like they suspect cancer which is very possible. I would not recommend black salve on the gums. Even under normal circumstances, precise instructions must be followed, as there is pain and scarring involved, and the gum area may be just too sensitive for a cat.
Let me give you our Natural Anti-Cancer Protocol for Dogs and Cats
I apologize, didn't make myself clear. I was inquiring about black salve for myself with the hope of being able to remove my little precancer spots rather than having to have them frozen off -- ouch! My understanding is that a good grade of black salve cautiously used rids one of these things and also warts.
The key word here are "cautiously used." Black salve does cause burning pain and also scarring. So be aware of this.
Another alternative would be to use a mixture of Oleander Soup (do you have access to a plant?), iodine, colloidal silver, and food grade DMSO. May take a little longer, but it is effective and you won't have the pain.

One final question (Think this should end this thread!) Do I use equal proportions for the ingredients you mentioned? I don't have any Oleander plant but have a bottle of Sutherland OPC which should work.
The thing is Bill, I don't think that the Sutherlandia OPC will have the same consistency as making it from scratch. Why don't you go to http://www.sutherlandiaopc.com and contact them to ask how and if Sutherlandia OPC can be used topically. But to answer your question......... No. Not in equal amounts. Colloidal silver, yes, you can use an equal amount of that, but the iodine should be less and you should only use a few drops of DMSO.

Luella
