Ive been doing a lot of research, and i mean a lot!
but every site i find tells me different things e.g. water fasting is great for you, and you will loose weight..yet another will say 'no you will just get bigger'..
Im 185 pounds and i want to get to 125! im willing to do an extended fast of 40 days, but im worried it will all go to waste and be a waste of time? will i even loose inches and drop dress sizes? if anyone has any advice and information it would be greatly appreciated, im really confused but eager to start! Thanks x
Fasting is good if you make lifestyle changes afterwards, eating healthy. If you fast that long, your metabolism will be slow for a few weeks before it gets back to normal again. So, if you go back to eating the way you did before you will put back on all the weight and even more. That is why people advise against it for weight loss. You would have to eat really careful afterwards or it will just be a waste, and it wouldn't be worth going through all that trouble of fasting. So make sure you know how you are going to eat afterwards, have a diet plan ready.
A low fat vegan/vegetarian diet is good for keeping weight off afterwards.
Hi, I second that. Over 2 weeks on a fast I lost 2.2 pounds per day, but it was an average over 3 weeks, not that much consistently each day.
After the last three fasts I was back to my normal weight within three months, probably less, and that was more than my ideal weight by about 20lbs although I am a very tall man so it does not show that much. I kept telling myself I would eat better (and less) and broke my promise each time.
I have recently been experimenting with 2-3 grams of Vitamin C each night and have found that I feel much calmer, less hungry between meals and able to concentrate better each day. It is early days so I cannot tell you it is the answer for me, but it makes me wonder about supplementation.
My guess is that you need to control your diet now as the easiest and most effective option.
i agree with others also! If you really want to loose weight and keep it off for life while being healthy. Im talking from my experience. Im only 5'4 and there was a time when i was 170lb. I have fasted to loose weight before, and like the previous comment said it is REALLy hard to keep it off unless you're eating super strict diet all the time after the fast. After all we're all humans , and you will cheat here or there anyways, and you will gain the weight back.
So when i finally realized that the only way to a permanent weight loss without suffering is a NORMAL/HEALTHY diet and exerise i did it... i went to gym 6 days a week. I cut sugar, processed food and white bread completely out of my diet. IT WAS REALLY HARD! But all it takes is 3 weeks (same as fasting but you actually eat) for you to get used to this lifestyle and it will get easier. You wont crave crap food anymore...so by doing that i lost 35lb in 3 months! then another 10lb in the next month. Finally got down to 125....and KEPT IT OFF till this day. Ofcouse i do flactuate sometimes but still 40lb gone forever. There was time when i got down to 110 but i was obsessed with gym. ( Which is not healthy either) I just want to say that i am a food addict and extreme emotional eatier, and unfortunately there's no easy way to achieve permanent weight loss...the most important lesson that i have learned is it's all about patience, consistency and EVERY DAY MINDFUL EATING. You can do it do! If you need help in anything please let me know! i would love to help. Hope this helps at least a little. YOU CAN LOOSE WEIGHT W/O FASTING if that's your initial goal.
The adage that "all diets work, but all diets fail" holds true for water-fasting as well........the ultimate zero-calorie diet.
Many consider that water-fasting is not ideal for weightloss, and for a variety of reasons; one of these is the lowered metabolic rate in an effort by the body in preserving its food reserves in the ultimate prevention of starvation. A lowered metabolic rate means less calories are burnt as fuel in ketosis.
You will ultimately lose weight of course on a water-only fast just as you will on a calorie restricted diet, but once both have come to an end, the pounds can pile on again and especially after the fast as there is a nitrogen deficit.
The secret in maintaining weightloss after either a diet or a water-only fast is threefold.............
#1. Eat a low-calorie but nutrient dense diet, or what is referred to as a "Nutritarian diet". This is more a way of eating than a diet per-se.
Diets that are not nutrient-dense do not satisfy the body "nutritionally" which in turn creates constant hunger. A body that is satisfied nutritionally will have its hunger "satiated" and therefore the tendency to overeat is overcome. The Standard American Diet (SAD) which is woefully inadequate, will not satisfy the body nutritionally, this in turn creates a virtual perpetual state of hunger: therefore overeating takes place on the wrong foods resulting in obesity.
#2. Combine your foods properly at each meal, which maximizes the absorption of nutrients whilst simultaneously minimizing putrefaction and fermentation. Combining a predominantly protein food WITH a predominantly starchy food at the same meal, produces the aforementioned and a main cause of weight-gain.
#3. Follow an exercise programme that will burn fat while you sleep, and up to 24 hours after finishing exercising, and in under 12 mins per day............... http://alsearsmd.com/pace2/jvnb/
