Last night I think I made a big blunder in eating dinner. I has some brown basmati rice, cooked lentils made into a puree kind of(called dahl)and a few peices of lamb with almond sauce. Later on I snacked a little on the same thing. Well I was fine for about 3 hours then I started feeling very hypoglycemic so I tried to eat something like a bunch of almonds, i got worse, tried to eat some more lamb, not any better, tried some hummus, no better, finally i had some more lamb and finally fell asleep somewhere around 2 oclock in the morning. I had a bad night. Did wrong eating trigger this?
I went for a long walk during the day. Did i over do it? This morning I am feeling very hypoglycemic as i do every morning.
I am really trying to figure out this eating and bad reaction thing. Why are we so sensitive. Sorry for rambling on. i hope to get better someday so i can be on the giving advice side rather than getting.
The excessive intake of carbohydrates in the diet is often associated with the development of many health conditions including hypoglycemia, diabetes, digestive difficulties, fatigue, depression and others. The meal you had was very high in carbs. Your upcoming hair test will tell you if you are sugar and carb intolerant. I suspect that you are based on your reaction.
I know if I eat a high carb meal it will trigger the hypoglycemia. I try and keep my daily carbs between 50-75 gms per day. The hypoglycemia is no longer a problem for me with the NB and low carb diet.
I am low and if I over did during the day I would get a feeling like I am having an hypoglycemic feeling, I would eat proteins thinking it was the sugar level with no relief. I later realized it was my cortisol level crashing from over working the adrenals earlier.
You might look into histamine reactions and copper toxicity. All nuts contian histidine Histidine, an amino acid, can be used by some gut bacteria to produce histamine. Also nuts are high in copper.
If you are female, your cycle can be a big factor in how well your blood sugar is stabalizing. I always notice a big difference when I am premenstrual and sometimes a bit when I am ovulating as well.
Wow! Me too, I definitely have to be more careful a week or so before my period and thought it was just some quirkiness in my system. Any idea why this is?
I think it's because of how our hormones shift around at that time, it affects everything and AF is a hormone imbalance. All my symptoms worsen at that time. Some other factors would be the that our bodies need more nutrients to do the work it takes to menstruate and this causes further depletion where there may already be deficiency. Also if you are someone with copper issues, the fluctuating estrogen levels will kick up any copper related symptoms.
Maybe you need a little more complex carbs to raise you blood sugar a little, as it was so low. Protein does not raise it but more or less sustains it.
Keep in mind, when ever you eat a meal or snack, always eat protein along with complex carb like 1/2 apple and turkey wrapped in cheese for a snack or apple slices with a few teaspoons of almond butter on them.
And a meal like 20 grams of protein ( 2 ounces) and 1/3 cup brown rice and 1 cup green beans. ( sample )
V-8 juice is a good juice that is low in carbs and higher in fiber and will not spike your blood sugar but will help raise it a little, but have it with a meal or a protein, complex carb snack.
Good complex carbs are: 12 whole grain toast
brown and wild rice
1/2 small sweet potato with skins
whole grain, high fiber fiber cereal)
fresh strawberries
I've been hypoglycemic for 23 years and have to have this balance.
Before bed have 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt ( higher in protein than regualar) with a few fresh strawberries mashed into it with stevia to sweeten. And have 2 RyeKrisp crackes with almond butter or real butter on them.
