I have frequently read that we need spit out the oil after oil pulling. I understand oil pulling's Ayurvedic origns and its historical legacy. Yes I respect that. However I will ask questions and try to make sure that all I understand makes sense to the best of my understandings. In doing so I neither seek to offend or even challenge any attitudes or views. I ask because I wish to understand.
Firstly spitting out is easy, so why worry? That is true.
If you are using oil pulling as a means of supplementing then not swallowing may or may not affect supplement intake.
MrCuddly I assume that you are adding the Coq10 to the oil, pulling then dumping at the end of oil pulling and salt rinsing afterwards. Is that correct?
If using a number of supplements perhaps a second oil pull is the answer? Is absorption good while pulling so that
absorption and detoxification can happen at the same time? Is absorption and detoxification affected by what is used, what form it is in and other factors, for example, underlying physical/psychological condition? Probably.
How much does the presence of the oil assist supplement absorption?
What we need solve is whether there is HMs detoxification.
Where is my mass spectrometer?
We also need solve whether bacterial detoxification takes place. Perhaps culturing the spent oil may reveal that
across a range of samples/trials and tests?
As detailed before I am yet to be convinced that my body, with adequate supports, can't control re-intoxification if I was to swallow.
Am I over thinking this? How important is this idea? Granted the unknowns can I think this another way?
I'll stay on the case and Yes continue oil pulling the way I am advised. T2
Trimnut - I do know where you're coming from. We're so used to ingesting our supplements that the idea of rolling it around in our mouths and spitting just feels like a waste.
However in the case of COQ10 whose absorbtion is actually magnified dramatically by being in an oil base and then given a long dwell mouth absorption - trust me, the availaiblity of CQ10 in your body is through the roof without swallowing anything.
I've dropped my dosage down to a few drops a day (probably about 20 mg according to the bottle). I can tell you absolutely that I've never had near the Q10 buzz from taking a couple 200mg ubiquinol caps in the morning (supposedly more bio-available than Q10) than I do with one 20th as much Q10 this way.
In fact even the 20 mg in OP is too strong on a daily basis - I won't use it more than every other or every few days.
I started trying this just as a way to expose my gums to Q10 directly, but OP as a super efficient Q10 delivery system has been the big story. There's absolutely no need to risk your health by swallowing the stuff. Stomach absorption is ALWAYS the least effective way to go - except for maybe probiotics.
LOL - you got me there! I was referring to supplements since they tend to be extracts that get bombarded by acids in the stomach. But yes, for food the stomach is still highly recommended! I don't see myself oil pulling a chocolate eclaire any time soon. ;)
