When I went to acupuncture for my bleeding episode, it definitely worked to stop the bleeding. But the guy seemed pretty much procedural to me and didn't really explain anything to me what was going on with my body.
And I started taking 100mg in Lugol's form. I did this for a week or so straight with no ill effects. Then for a couple of days I didn't feel like taking it so I didn't.
I was fortunate and blessed to be connected with a friend of my husband's family. She is from China, certified in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and wanted to see me. She does not have a practice, but she treats friends and family for free. On Sunday (two days ago) I drove three hours each way to see her. What she explained was that my spleen meridian was very, very weak. This is what holds and regulates fluids in the body, and allows the body to separate the "good stuff" from the "bad stuff." (I hope I didn't butcher that explanation too badly.) So this extreme spleen deficiency would definitely cause the extreme blood loss.
Although, as I understand it, a bleeding episode can weaken the spleen system, she asked me questions and we determined that the spleen system was very weak before the episode and probably most of my life.
It was amazing how she demonstrated it. The spleen meridian is on the inside of each leg from the top to the end of the big toe. She took some type of utensil and rubbed along the meridian, and it was so painful and uncomfortable I could hardly stand the contact at all! Then she showed me on my arm the amount of pressure she was using and it was hardly anything!! She had thought she would do leg cupping but after examining me decided it would not be wise because I'd scream too loud and 911 would be called, ha ha! So she told me I'd have to do it myself...every day I have to massage along the meridian as hard as I can (yes it hurts badly) for a period of time. She also gave me an exercise to do that will stave off menstrual bleeding and buy time until I can get the spleen system improved.
So, the spleen system is very, very weak, and the liver and lung systems are also weak. My blood is very thick and therefore inefficient at delivering nutrients and removing toxins. She said the effectiveness of anything I take will be compromised until the spleen is strengthened, and I can't detox properly anyway.
So I've stopped the Lugol's and most of my other supplements temporarily until I can strengthen the spleen. I'll wait until I can properly detox -- hopefully in a couple weeks or so of diligence. I'm taking only the Chinese herbs for fibroid reduction and a little iron.
So now I wonder how much or if at all taking Iodine contributed to the bleeding. Maybe it had nothing to do with it at all -- the other condition being so extreme? Or maybe (I'm out on a limb here, ha ha!) the iodine caused me to have all this yick in my blood, and my body couldn't get rid of it, so it discharged it all out the yoni via the weak point, the fibroids?
what a fascinating story. i believe you found someone to address the problem. the bleeding, in my mind, was the body's way of detoxifying. if the Iodine you were taking at the time - those small amounts - had anything to do with the bleeding it was all the toxins it was releasing without taking enough iodine to denature the toxins as well.
you see, the chinese medicine is ancient. the halogen problem we have today is quite modern and based upon pharmacological chemistry. fluorine and bromine are killers. big pharma doesnt seem to mind that. in fact, the more dangerous the drug the more they can charge for it because the closer monitoring the person needs.
when you are ready to take care of this halogen imbalance that everyone has and is attacked with daily, we will be here for you.
god bless you for taking the time to include us in this very instructive ordeal that you have gone through. you have certainly blessed us.
"if the Iodine you were taking at the time - those small amounts - had anything to do with the bleeding it was all the toxins it was releasing without taking enough iodine to denature the toxins as well."
I was doing 50 mg at the time...I agree with you, and if you add that what the tcm practioner was saying, that I can't even really detoxify properly anyway, it kind of makes sense. If my blood is too stagnant it can't even get the toxins to the kidneys, so maybe it expelled them in the form of blood.
I'm so ready to get back on the road with this iodine thing!
