Hi Dr Jeff, its nearly 3 weeks on the plan. At first i avoided fruit as i had a bad reaction to it, but i am thinking of maybe giving it a try if you dont object?
Could i have a piece of fruit to check if i have a bad reaction without having a set back?
Which fruits are the least in sugar?
Lastly this is jumping ahead a bit much here, but say that i can now tolerate fruits would there be a limit and how many i could have each day?
I am interested in this response. I eat a very low fat diet - comprised of just fruit, vegetables, some rice and potatoes.
I personally have found that fruit and fat do not mix well for me at all. Other carbs not so great as well.
I must also note that I have extremely good insulin response (due mostly to the low fat diet and exercise) as indicated in several blood tests (fasting blood sugar = 70). Typically - after a large fruit meal - my glucose levels will be back between 70-80 in ~ 2 hours after eating. Inflammation is also not an issue (sedimentation rate = 0).
If a low-fat diet works best for you, that may be an indication of liver/gall bladder issues. I have found that fats help to slow the rapid absorption of sugars. When I'm not doing the Plan, I find that raw fats like cream and butter work very well with fruits. On the Plan and off, I find that a raw fat like avocados with fruits works well. Healing is a process of discovery.
Thanks Dr. Jeff and likely I do... or did have some liver issues (used to drink a LOT of booze).... I quit drinking 4 years ago have been taking milk thistle for a few months now... and previously.. have performed 15 of the Clarke liver flushes.....
Interestingly... I recently spent some time with a couple of type1 diabetics. They are also vegan... their breakfast was oatmeal over tossed greens.. topped with avocado or walnuts and some flax.
I asked them about the fat and they said the very same thing... it seems to "flatten" the insulin response curve.
For lunch and dinner they stick with whole intact grains, legumes, seeds and sometimes root vegetables (low GI stuff).
This is where I am headed ... but first... I need to clear my head (see my "planb" post above.
We've had people with lifelong fruit allergies be able to eat fruit after a few weeks on the Plan. I think those cases are pure allergic responses based the makeup and composition of their intestinal tract for the most part. Others with blood sugar regulation problems have done the Plan and seen those corrected through the course of doing the Plan. Still others may have more severe blood sugar issues and following the Blood Sugar protocol works best for them.
You can try fruit and see how it works for you. Some fruits may work and others may not. With people who in general are good with fruit from the very beginning, I haven't seen a need to restrict their consumption. Moderation is always a good key to follow.
Thanks for the reply, i tried a peeled apple and it gave me some symptoms such as extra gas. The symptoms do not seem as bad as the last time i remeber trying an apple so maybe there is some improvement.
I have now stopped all steroids and my blood sugar symptoms have become alot better. So i may leave it another week or so then try a different fruit.
