Hello! I've been fasting for about a week now, and everything's been relatively tolerable. I have been feeling weak though, and was wondering if taking vitamins is something I should be doing? I usually don't take them and would rather bare the weakness for a bit... But I don't want to damage my body. Just wanted to make sure that the body can take care of itself without vitamins. I hope it can and if anyone has any information or can guide the way I would be very grateful. By the way, this whole experience has been great and having this forum has really helped a lot!
I, personally, intend to have Sea Saltfeet baths/ maybe vaporizing on my entire body if I feel too weak after the 7-10th day, since I do not have too many reserves of any kind, and pretty much my main problems is weakness when water fasting.
Thanks for bringing forward the NH view on vitamin supplements although, to be truthful, there are plenty of Hygienists who have lost faith in the Hygienic principles and are recommending some supplementation. Bernarr Zovluk's take on this is that those with limited faith are just unaware of how to properly practice NH. In the end, it's down to the individual to decide who they will trust.
I can assure Smashbtws that their weakness is not down to vitamin or mineral deficiencies. It will be completely down to the detoxification process and will pass as the bloodstream purifies.
Any attempt to relieve the symptoms of this process will only work by interrupting the process and is a bad idea on several levels. What is the point of fasting if you're going to interfere with it thereby wasting the energy resources being consumed. You'd be better off just eating healthily and detoxing in slow time.
I would say no on the vitamins, they are generally chemical substances that can be harmful to the body. Feeling week is generally a sign that it is time to end the fast. People that are skinny with less muscle will need to do shorter fasts as your body will start using things that take a lot of time to replace. Heavier people and those with muscle can complete longer fasts quite easily.
I agree with you that vitamins are generally chemical substances that can be harmful to the body. I'm not sure that it's true that heavier people can fast longer than lighter people although heavier people would have greater reserves of fats.
I completely disagree that weakness is a sign for breaking the fast. Other than the return of hunger, indications for breaking the fast tend to be a combination of symptoms in the right context. If weakness indicated breaking the fast, no-one would get past week one.
I agree with you and NH, to not use vitamins during a fast, since there are not naturally extracted, in most cases, in their form sold in store. Although, there are proven benefits for people with certain conditions/deficiencies while not fasting.
In my mind there is difference between weak due to low blood pressure, resulting from electrolyte deficiency (-ies) and weak due to depletion of fat and amino-acids, and lastly weak due to detoxing. In the first case, people have shared on this forum that, pinch of salt makes them feel better and makes them able to continue the fast. If this is the condition to get the benefits, exponentially growing with the duration of the fast, I do not feel like it is a compromise, rather: a gain.
I would also underline that the man-combined/manufactured table salt has nothing to do with Sea Salt . Sea salt has myriad of macro-, micro- and trace elements and electrolytes, while table salt has limited, artificially made up mixture of substances, that will harm you with regular use. Check the labels on table salt packages: sodium chloride, ferrous sulfate, thiosulfate (!), Aluminum (!!!), Silicium dioxide (as high as 30%) = sand !
... the difference with sea salt is pretty much obvious.
