I am at my wit's end and am really depressed right now so I will try to get this out. My son who is now about 9 1/2 months has been having very noticeable digestive issues for a little over a month. I say noticeable becasue I'm sure this has been going on longer I just haven't put two and two together until now. Plus it has become much worse since starting solids. Anyway, he is mainly breastfed, no formula and we've been pretty unsuccessful with solids. I started him on organic brown rice cereal at 5 months and he never really took to it well. After about a month or so of trying cereal I started him on veggies and fruit; we tried peas first which he gagged and cried. I then tried carrots with a similar reaction but not quite as bad. Both of these early trys were homemade. I then decided to buy some organic jarred baby food and he still didn't care for it much but managed to eat a couple very tiny bites. I kept trying to give him solids for months with no success. About 5 weeks ago I thought maybe he'd like to try some oatmeal; that maybe he'd like that better than the rice. Well he didn't and the next day he had very rumbly intestines, lots of gas and blood in his stool. His BM's have always been watery and mucousy so it's hard to determine what's normal and what's diarrhea but they are now loud and explosive. In between feeding him jarred food I was giving him bites of my food here and there like apple and toast (wheat, sourdough) and I did give him some plain yogurt. He had the yogurt the week prior to when this started. So far he's had blood in his stool about 6 times or so and the last couple times it's been really hard to see. I have to look VERY close and there will be itty bitty specks throughout the diaper. Somedays he is fine and other's he is in discomfort. I did take him to the pediatrician who did a stool culture on him for parasites and pathogens which came back normal. She mentioned gluten intolerance and possible celiac but she did not diagnose him with it. She said to not give him any gluten containing foods. Well in my search on celiac I decided that I would go gluten free myself because he is obviously being affected by what I eat which I am now in tune to, however, I am having the hardest time figuring out what is setting him off. Like is it gluten or something else. I haven't eaten any gluten to my knowledge the last 4 days and I know that's not long enough yet to see a positive response, but he's been pretty bad off today with his tummy. I did start him on a probiotic (which I have always taken myself) a little over a week ago. It does contain maltodextrin but the company said that it is either rice or corn starch derived. I also pretty much switched all my wheat products to rice products so now it makes me wonder if it's really rice that is affecting him and maybe it was a coincidence with the oatmeal. The thing I'm also wondering about which occured at the same time as the oatmeal is that my hubby accidentally put florasone cream on his bottom instead of his normal cream. It's a homeopathic cream that contains cardiospermum. I don't know if this could cause intestinal issues or not. As a young baby he used to spit up a lot but it was never excessive or projectile but he used to fuss immediately after nursing and would arch his back. For the longest time I didn't understand why he would do that until I started reading about reflux. I did start giving him Tummy Soother by Gentle Naturals which seemed to help a lot. I still give that to him off and on. He has never slept through the night and still wakes a few times. For the longest time I just associated this with teething since he got his first 2 teeth at 5 months. He now has 8 and I'm pretty sure he's working on his molars. I was giving him teething tablets for the longest time (I'd break for a few days here and there) but I stopped everything when these symptoms started. I just started up the Tummy Soother and plain Chamomile pellets last week when he needs them, as well as the probiotic. He was also getting Tylenol and Motrin occassionally, which I hate giving to him, but it seemed to help him sleep a little better. I just don't know what to do; I feel hopeless and distressed that he has digestive issues. Even from before I got pregnant I have always tried to do everything "right" when it comes to health and nutrition. I eat fairly well and choose organic when I can. I eat lots of veggies and fruit, avoid bad oils, drink lots of water, etc. Do you or anyone know what I can do or what this can be? If it is celiac can this be cured and what causes it? I know it's a heriditary thing (which I know of no one in our family who has it) but I also just briefly read about it being associated with heavy metals. How could my son have been exposed to excessive heavy metals? Oh and my son is 100% un-vaccinated. Well I think I got it all, sorry my post is sort of all over the place. Please help! Thank you so much!
Hello. This is hard I know. It really sounds like he does not need food, just you nursing him! If that was going well, keep going until he Fights you for a taste of what you are eating. If you were having problems with just nursing, then you have to think about your diet. All meds, caffeine and a long list of things like spicy food. You can find more info at lalecheleague.org. You should offer only fresh fruit when He is ready and he will not starve whith nursing or a nibble of food, only. Some of my children did not eat, but very little, until almost three years. They are grown and they are getting taller than me now!. Idealy, a baby will have enough teeth to chew or gum what he wants. For example, it does not make sense to me to feed a baby baby food with meat in it. It is silly. They would not be able to chew an animal, with no teeth, LOL! But the industry is cleaver about making you feel guilty if you do not offer this and that, then and when, and blah blah from auntie or friends, it all adds up to guilt. Baby food in a jar is not food. Baby food is what you eat, when it is sweet juicy, natural fruits! This is the ideal diet. Believe me, pressure to hurry and feed comes from all dirrections but really he is fine without food until after one year, or until he is the one wanting to feed himself. Food is a poison to him and he knows it. The otc meds are a HUGE problem as well. They are toxic and only add to gas or other problems. I never trust an otc as safe. Any MD would not guarantee that otc's or other meds would not harm a person. They could never know for sure and damage does not only show up as a noticable "reaction". Find info on increasing the nutrients in your milk. Sometimes you may just need alot more uncooked foods to enrich your milk. Nursing also helps with teething. I hope this helps. Best of all step back and ask yourself what you think he really needs and do not be afraid to listen. You already did that when you said "No" to vaccinations!!!!! : )
Neesay
Neesay, you've said it all perfectly! Yes, there is SO much guilt on feeding a baby solids, what, when, how much, etc! It's aggravating. He is content with nursing but I am trying to avoid grains and dairy now because I do think it affects him. Dairy makes me mucousy and I get "foggy" when I eat too many grains. He ate almost a whole jar of organic pears the other day and really enjoyed it. I definitely need to take a step back and listen to my gut feelings. I've wavered a few times on vaccines but I still always come back to not getting them. I just love it when the doctors tell you that there is a lot of bad or mis-information out there and to only go to trustworthy websites (i.e. government, CDC, etc) to read about vaccinations. Are they serious?! I mean come on, that is NOT being informed of the choices and risks, it's biased and incomplete information. Basically what they are saying is that anyone or any website that says vaccines are harmful is not trustworthy or is giving bad information!
So glad you and baby are better. The simple answer is usually the right one. I can tell you that I have four children between 2 and 17 who are unvaxed, no "anti" "bio" "tics", no md's, no fillings in their teeth. We now need to clean up our diets because I have been neglectful. Otherwise we would not be experiencing any ills. I can not blame any ills on anything like fillings, vax's, meds, etc. only DIET!!! That is a pretty powerful statement really.
You cannot stengthen your immune system by injections. This poison goes into the blood, muscle, organs, without the benefit of passing mucus membrains like those in the nose or mouth--wich most diseases must pass first. In my opinion all immunization is a propaganda for population control, fear and creating a constant supply of sick children, elderly etc. Ever wonder why there is a vaccine shortage every year? Give me a Break! Heck, alot of vax's are free. Can you think of anything most md's have that are free?
You are very smart to listen to your inner voice. Another site I like to go to is mothering.com. You will find ALOT of info on this and soooo much more, plus you can find other new moms who do not vax and like to nurse their babies etcTake Care,
Neesay : )
Wow, that definitely IS a very powerful statement. It makes you realize how crucial a good diet is. I agree completely about vaccines. I'll check out that site....thanks!
You have tried everything but the obvious--fruit (though you did mention you had tried some fruit). Fruit is the only natural food for humans. I would make him fresh OJ and see what happens. If you want to take it a step further, all food that we eat kills us slowly, so it's easy to see why he is reacting that way. I hope MH has the time to respond to this because he has the healthiest happiest kids ever. I think they are raised on fruits nuts and berries, along with his herbs. I would not force him to eat anything, anybody can live well on juices. When he is ready to eat solids he will.
And about the parasites. What the MD considers "normal" is not acceptable. We all have parasites! All kinds of them! What you saw in his stool is parasites. You should try some parasite herbs. It is easy to keep parasites under control with a fruit diet.
Good luck, I understand your frustration but sometimes the best medicine is NOTHING.
Thank you very much! Yeah, I was thinking that the "normal" diagnosis was probably not what is really normal. I do have him on a probiotic and he has gotten much better. I'm trying to avoid grains and dairy myself so he won't get it in my breastmilk. And he did eat almost a whole jar of organic pears the other day! I'm not going to push the eating. I know he'll eat when he's ready. Thanks again!
You have done so good and yet missed the BOAT..........................
Your milk is your blood and is no better than your health, so hopefully you have been doing allot for your health, so baby is healthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO PAIN DRUGS, tylenol only kills the liver, you don't need than, etc. Pain is a result of infection caused by wrong diet.........
Whats up with all this solid food idea???????? And grains/rice, etc...????? If I was baby I would be throwing it right back up on the plate.
Say F R U I T
NO GRAINS, NO CERALS, NO MEATS and NO COW.
When your done feeding you can use goats milk if you must, but no cow.
Baby wants your milk only for the first 18 months..... PERIOD, all else is a poison.
Mom's milk today is not good enough, so by age 8 months the use of ground fine fruit is essential. Go to the store, buy a basket full of baby fruit jars and that is enough along with your milk.
GET the Christopher child hood diseases book to learn about herbs.
IF you want Brenda's Suggestions give her a call, she can tell you why she gave Trevor 5 gallons of baby calm by age 2 and extra oregano.
To do so well and then result to tylenol and some doc doing a stool sample etc. is too sad, your so close to being the "PERFECT" MOM. With just a little experience your going to be the BEST MOM EVER, I put you in the top 1% of this world.
Thank you very much for your suggestions. My son did finally eat almost a whole jar (the small one) of organic pears the other day! He really enjoyed it. I'm definitely staying away from the Tylenol and grains and I'm planning on breastfeeding him for a while. I'm in no rush to wean. Being a first time mom is a real hard thing, but I'm learning. And it's getting easier. Thanks again!
As a first timer you are really doing GREAT, a extremely small % choose to not vaccinate their children. I have never read a GOOD medical book that reccomended vaccination, even 100 years ago the good mds whole heartily condemded injecting deadly poisons into the human body.
Thank you for your kind words! I think more parents are choosing to not vaccinate now but it's definitely a small group compared to the big picture. I'm glad more are becoming aware. It maddens me when doctors instill fear in parents. I mean look at the recent mumps outbreak for instance. All the news coverage I read said that there isn't anything to worry about because it's a benign and mild disease. Very rarely do complications such as sterility occur. However, doctors preach gloom and doom when mumps, for most people, poses no problems. Even less so in children. But yet you better get the MMR or else.........
I was vaccinated and had most of the diseases I was vaccinated for. Christopher and many MD's explain that the deadly poisons used and dna altering cells make us less human and more animal that makes us better slaves. I personally have yet to see a child that was never vaccinated to ever contract the diseases, my kids have been disease free. I believe all this crap came via the wicked evil use of vaccinations. Christopher teaches and I have read the same in books that NO VACCINE EVER stopped a plague or disease ever in history and in most cases the vaccines kept the plagues around much longer than would have been normal.
When people started taking baths many of these diseases/plagues went away.
Yes, I agree that sanitation has a huge impact. Among many other things that we do now that we didn't back then.
By the way, I have another question about my son. He is still having blood in his stool. Do you think I should take him back to the doctor....I really don't quite know what to do. I mean, he shouldn't be having this and something is obviously not right. I wish I knew. I did give him some pears yesterday and he ate a couple good bites but not much. I wonder if I should stop all solid foods for a while? I'm also giving him probiotics....what are your thoughts on those? I just read that children's intestines have "openings" in them to allow the mother's antibodies to enter their bloodstream which don't close until the child nears 2 years old. If that's the case then I can see how allergies and other digestive upsets can happen when we feed solids too soon. And why vaccines cause so much harm in young children.
9+ months old and blood in stool. is never a good thing. Not knowing why it is happening is the main problem. Normally I would suggest a hard fall, etc. If he was my child I would take him to the chiropractor first thing and see what he advised, unless he was bleeding too much. There are simple ways for an adult, but not much written about babies for internal bleeding. There is a milk formula in Christopher's that is easy and stops intestinal bleeding, but was always used for adults. When in doubt seek medical advice, especially with babies. I am sure they will be quite concerned to make sure no one has harmed him.
My son has had a couple bumps on the noggin from him learning to pull up onto things but nothing that would suggest a hard fall. He did fall off the bed once but this was after the blood started. The fall wasn't bad but definitely scared me to death! I took him to the doctor again yesterday and they sent me home with more stool collecting kits. Blood was confirmed today and they are referring him to a GI specialist. Now I just wait for my insurance to approve the referral and we'll go from there. I'm really hoping it's nothing serious that requires medication or surgery. By the way you didn't say whether you think probiotics are good or not, I'm curious what are your thoughts on those? I think I'm going to stop them for now until we get a dignosis as well as all solids.
I don't waste my $$ on what is called probiotics; I'd prefer to eat a fresh fruit right off the tree or bush.
We know one fact, a 10 month old baby can only digest mother's milk and all else is a poison. "IF" mom's milk was not possible, then the second choice is raw goat milk from the best goat you can find and dilute 1/2 with distilled water, 1 drop of safflower/oregano and 1 dropper of pure olive leaf tincture per quart of milk, 3rd choice is well smashed fresh fruits.
These 3 options allows his body to do the best it can, all medical methods will be ???? I would exhaust my chiropractor first before the baby ever seen a MD that prescribes drugs.
Good Luck and my theory has and always will be; the use of insurance will take you down a bad path.
I just did a quick search and found this link about possible causes of blood in a baby's stool. There are a lot of interesting things here that I've never heard before.
