    I dont mean to be a whiny baby, but all day long I keep thinking, maybe do just 3 days.... I'm hungry, but more than that My HEAD HURTS!!!!!:-( How are you doing wascallywabbit? Sry if I spelled it wrong:) Anyone else out there on their 1st 2nd or 3rd day, I sure need some encouragement.

      hey tracidhead... i've actually decided to modify the cleanse a little bit for me... because i read that it's not good for candida sufferers and i've displayed some candida symptoms in the past... it's not too severe now, but just to be ont he safe side....
      and it seems that many people take liberties "tailor-making" the cleanse to suit their individual needs, and i think that's a good idea.... like i just read this account by "Espen H." who is actuallyone of the founders of curezone i think?!! anyway he also make vegetable broth sometimes during the fast.... using different vegetables every day like carrots, onions, Celery , parsley, pumpkins, beets, spinach, burdock root, etc... using just enough unrefined Sea Salt to make the veges taste sweeet... 2-3 bowls of this broth was taken daily in conjunction with the lemonade.. i think i might do this for extra minerals, and also just to get off the monotony of drinking only the lemonade while not damaging the fast itself too much :p:p the vege broth would also be good for my candida problem as well i think....

      anyway so my own adjustment to this master cleanse is: i'm subsituting 50% of the maple syrup with xylitol, which is natural sugar that's actually good for you and good for candida sufferers especially.... also i'm taking some probiotics ... i think the modified version will help me get through the 10 days and even beyond!! if all goes well i plan to be on it like 20 days :p:p.... i know i know.. i shouldn't talk too soon right? let us just see if i can get through the second day :p:p !!! but anyway if we can get through with the help of some vegetable broth, then i think it's loads better than trying to be too strict then quitting too soon....
      i also plan to finish the fast with my 7th liver flush... i heard that fasting can create some stones in the liver, so it's good to do it this way.... i don't know if you have done any liver flushes, but it's REALLY great... i've thus far passed like at least 4 cups of JUNK from my body in 6 flushes!! i know i would be in MUCH WORSE shape now if i had not done it.... i highly recommend it :) !

        You should consider juice fasting cause with all the additions and changes you really are not doing the MC and you should not expect the same results. The MC works by giving the digestive system a rest and with all these additions you will keep stimulating different digestive enzymes and juices which defeats the main working mode of the MC.

        Maple syrup is not used as a "sweetener in the MC. It is used because it provides you with lots of minerals and easily assimilated sugars that will give you energy to cope with your daily activities so adding the xylitol will not give you any of the benefits and you're just adding some other agent that the body needs to break down and digest again defeating the main ourpose of the MC that works by giving the digestive system a rest and in addition you are short changing yourself of the mineral content of the Maple syrup.

        While the lemon and cayenne helps to cleanse the system there really is no particular magic to the combination. "All" forms of fasting or mono diets which is what the MC is tecnically work by unburdening the system from having to work hard at digesting all kindsa different food stuffs not to mention additives chemicals etc etc. So the sytem will devote the extra energy to cleanse and heal. None of the cleanses on this site heal anything they just unburden our system so it can heal itself.

        If you have candida the wisdom is to address that before doing the MC. Espen H was not doing the MC and I can't for the life of me think of why they still have that on this site and associate it with the MC. When you start adding all these different components you are no longer doing a mono diet and should not expect the effective cleansing action that the MC provides. You also don't do yourself any favors with the broths or whatever cause since you keep stimulating the digestive system you will remain hungry thoughout the fast.

          thank you for your detailed message. i understand that if it's modified, it's not going to be THE master cleanse, and the benefits one gets would be limited and modified also. i took the espen H. message seriously because she seemed to be one of the founders of curezone, and not just anyone leaving messages.

          i started with The Master Cleanse because i read somewhere that someone cured his chronic cough doing the fast for 10 days. he said that after 2,3 days his coughing was already better. it's my second day so far, and already my coughing has subsided, so even though i might not be doing it perfectly, i'm still getting enough benefit from it for the purpose, i think.

          it seems that the candida problem i have cannot be just "addressed" first and then other problems attended to, because all problems are entertwined. and you try to uproot one problem, u realize that it's intimately linked to yet another problem.... first i thought i had acid reflux, and then i realize it's cos of candida, then i realize it's cos my liver is totally shot, then i realize the liver is shot cos of the Amalgam fillings... etc. etc.... my candida problem wont' be totally cured until my digestive system is totally restored... and that can only happen if i do liver flushing and all manner of cleansing along the way... sometimes due to the circumstances, some cleanses can only be done in a modified way, but i think it's still worth doing... as my health gets better i look forward to doing more strict master cleanse :) !!

            Where did you get this that his Espen in one of the founders of Curezone?

            I have been around curezone on and off for more than 3 years and the Espen issue has been discussed maaaany times. There is only one original founder and that is Spirit. Everyone else is a volunteer that has been invited to join as a moderator mostly based on their posting frequency on Curezone. Espen is not anymore an authority on the MC than anyone else that posts to this forum.

            Look now that we've put the Espen/founder thing to rest do yourself a favor and don't use it to bolster your rationalization of this modified MC thing. The MC is a "specific" protocol that works in a "specific" simple and elegant way. There is no "modified MC". Once you start adding other things that require digestion and that will change the chemistry from what the MC is, it is no longer the MC and it will NOT work the same way. With these additions that keep the digestive system active you not only change the chemical reactions that make the MC work like it was designed to work, you will keep the digestive system active and more than likely you will remain hungry througout the whole thing.

            With what you are doing while it's not the MC you hafta take into account that you are completly changing your habitual food intake. You are not eating solids and definetly not the things that could be possibly be the causative agent for your cough to begin with. Keeping all this in minds that this it itself constitutes a major change for your daily routine this does not mean that the lesening of your cough is happening from this so called "modified" MC but likely just from the drastic change of your daily habits and nutrition intake. This is more so on day 3. The sytem doesn't even begin to get into deeper cleansing mode till around day 8.

            Read the "Detox Stages" in the FAQs for some guidelines in the cleansing timeline.

              i'm new to MC and was not aware that the Espen question has been discussed many times!! thanks for enlightening me!!
              in that case it's very strange that they still have the page that i found posted on curezone.com as if curezone itself condoned the exercise. i think this should be remedied as soon as possible before beginners like myself get confused further. we are already confused enough as it is!! :p

                "Master Cleanse-Lemonaide Diet"!!! Thats how it is posted above on the forums page, I read it too!!! I was drinking some organic apple juice also to help break up the Gallstones (sp?) that arent coming out during my liver flushes. (3 liver flushes so far, only small pea sized ones the first flush) anyway, i agree, they need to take that off if it is not in accordance with the official site!:-p Guess I'd better quit with the apple juice, cause I was starving yesterday!
                I'm starting day 3 without a headache so far:-) yea, its a good thing cause i was either going to break it or drink a small cup of coffee this morning if my head was hurting again. So far so good!! I couldnt even concentrate yesterday. So glad I've made it to day 3 though. I've lost 5 lbs so I've gotta stick with it! My tongue was yucky this morning so i brushed my teeth/tongue before i did the SWF. I didnt want all the toxins off my tongue going back into my intestines:)

              you seem so knowledgeable about MC, can u please help me with something?!!
              (my MC is not modified yet, so this is a valid MC question i think)

              yesterday, which was my second day, i started to have this diarrhea in the afternoon... i understand that i'm putting only liquid in, and thus only liquid is coming out...but i had to go to the bathroom like 15 times from 3pm to 9pm.... is it "normal" during MC ? thanks!!

                "Normal" is whatever that is for You. It's gonna be what it's gonna be for you and depending on how toxic you are and what your system is used too etc etc. You have undertaken a drastic change in diet and your body is detoxing so just hang tough in knowing that you are doing yourself a world of good and just ride it out.

                The wisdom when going through detox symptoms is to start drinking lots of water to help keep flushing the toxins out. I know for me if I felt a headache coming on I would guzzle a quart of water and the headache would dissapear shortly after.

                After the first couple days expect only liquid poo or as it has been refered to here "butt pee".

                  thank you 1277... less number of loo visits today, which is a relief!!! lots of rumblings in the tummy though... but i feel better overall :) !! i'm going to stick to as pure of an MC as possible and see where it gets me.... thanks for your help :> !!

                    I overlooked in my first response that with all the different things you might have added or are still adding that you really can't go by anything that is considered "normal" in the course of the MC cause who knows what effects/reactions these different additions are causing since with these additions you are no longer doing the MC.

                      actually if you read my question (on diarrhea) you would notice that i'm still on regular MC... :) the only thing i'm "modifying" is i'm putting more maple syrup in my lemonade (which, according to the book, is fine, if you don't want to lose any weight) because i'm already quite underweight

                            My first MC was a 3 +/- years ago and it was for 40 days. Before all my MCs etc I have done long periods of healthy eating including one stint of around 8 years doing Macrobiotics. Where I used to live there were several places that would have these lectures on macrobiotics and then there would be dinner after plus there were a coupla restaurant the had macro meals in the vicinity of both  where I lived and worked so it was very accessible to me. Alas I moved to another state and I no longer had the convenience so I started slacking off.

                            I'm a kidney stone passer and the last 5 years I've had a serious bouts that put me in the hospital for a week I then again another 3 or so years later. That was one of the worst experiences that any human could have where my system went into evacuation mode and I couldn't even drink water cause I would throw it up and I would go into these bouts of nausea that the room would spin and I couldn't even walk, again landing me in the hospital. A year after that I was canoeing and jumped out and bumped my leg on a rock just a little bump but it was enough that I got some serious bacteria in my leg and 2 day later my whole leg swolle up to twice it's size and turned black landing me in the hospital for 12 days where I had to have an operation and skin grafts where they had to cut out a bunch of dead tissue from the infection.

                            I first went to a clinic rather than the hospital where the doctor prescribed a strong general antibiotic since no biopsy was preformed to identify the specific bacteria they gave me a wide spectrum antibiotic. This not only destroys the bad bacteria but also all the good bacteria. I was on that for 10 days and after that I went to the hospital where they did that surgery and keep my on more antibiotics and I had to keep taking ABs even after I left the hospital. That much antibiotics really destroys your system.

                            Well all these ordeals withing a 5 year period really took a lot of life out of me and activities that I once enjoyed would totally zonk me out. I decided to do a juice fast and did one for 10 days. That was amazing what that did for my energy  levels and I was back to the activities that I once loved with gusto. Well it still took me another year before I decided to do another 2 week juice fast. While doing that fast I started doing research on the net and ran up on this site. I read up on the MC and I intuitively knew that it was for me and transitioned after 5 days on a juice fast to the MC. I credit that 5 days of juicing as a pre MC cleanse that certainly helped me to have a relatively detox symptom free 40 dayer from the git go. Mind you I have never been a smoker I rarely if ever eaten red meat in the last 20 years. I'm also not a regular coffee drinker. At most when I do drink coffee it would be one cup in the morning only. I have also never been a junk food person or eaten most of the middle of the road garbage from the SAD diet. My biggest culprits in my diet are flour products and sugar. Not being a junk food, chemically laden foods  eater I'm sure also contributed to the lack of major detox symptoms in my MCs.

                            Outside of the kidney stone thing I have always been a relatively healthy person and quite active physically and I just wasn't having this lethargy and lack of energy that was taking over me. Another bonus after that first 40 dayer was getting rid of this chronic wrist and shoulder pain that I had been having for around 5 years.

                             After that 1st 40 dayer it was like pressing the reset button in my life and I was a man possessed with a mission. I ate a pristine diet of mostly raw foods adding flax seed oil for the EFAs (essential fatty acids)doing 2 OZ of fresh squeezed wheat grass everyday and drinking anywhere from 16 to 32 Ozs of  veggie juice (carrots, celery,parley or cilantro, red beet, apple and every now and the a little ginger) and some quality food supplements.

                            For 6 to 8 months I went to gym religiously. At first I was going at least 5 days a week, then went down to 3 days.

                            After the first 40 dayer I have done a 28 and a 21 day MC and I am currently on day 22 of the MC and if circumstance and schedule allows I'll prolly go to 40. I just got back from a 2 day camping trip involving some serious physical exertion and I was fine throughout.

                            I have also done several colon cleanses parasite cleanses, own a zapper and to date have done over 20 liver flushes. It took about 18 LFs to get the all clear no more stones.

                            Since this last winter I have started a new business and things have been quite stressful so I did a bit of backsliding this winter food and gym wise and I tell you once you have towed that line and your system has operated at high efficiency levels you can tell when things start slowing down and your system is not operating at that peak efficiency. Once you've been there you just will not stand for anything less. It's not just a physical thing but it's all tied to your mental acuity and attitude.

                              my health was getting worse and worse over the years (thanks also due to Amalgam fillings putting undue pressure on my liver, but i didn't knwo it at the time) then it TOTALLY COLLAPSED when i was given some doxycycline (another wide spectrum antibiotic) last october for some minor skin infection.... ever since then i've been totally struggling with my health... :( fortunately i found curezone and since then i have done --

                              1) colon cleansing (schulze method as well as epsom salt, enemas etc.)
                              2) kidney cleansing (schulze and andreas tea)
                              3) 6 liver flushes (passed like at least 4 cups of gunk so far... but still long ways to go)
                              4) one 3 day oj fast
                              5) replaced my amalgam fillings

                              i'm eating better, i cut 99% of sugar off my diet, etc. i exercise and i try to get plenty of sun... but i still have nagging problems that wont' go away, like this dry cough:( and occasional overproduction of phlegm/saliva.... :(( and my eyes are still sunken in, and i can't gain weight due to still imperfect digestion...

                              my original plan was to do a 10 day MC to try to get rid of my dry cough... but after reading your history, i'm wondering if a much longer fast isn't being called for here... i'm just finishing up day 5 and i feel pretty good energy wise.... :) and thus far i haven't lost any more weight which to me is a great thing, cos right now i'm like 95pounds at 5'4" and that's like anorexic-land, so i gotta be super careful..... :-( so if i can do like a much longer fast and maintain the current weight.. perhaps i will go for it/!!! :p:p :) thanks again for your input :) !!!!

                                Sounds like you're doing all the right stuff. The biggest advice I can give you is to be patient and hang tough cause it's just gonna take time and it's quite possible that things can get worse before they get better and that will vary from person to person. If things do get worse at least on the MC you can generally take that as a good sign that your system is getting rid of toxins and you just start guzzling water to help to dilute the toxins and keep them moving out. While Mr.B is dead set against enemas I have read of many folks getting instant relief with an enema during a detox crisis.

                                Since you have a weight issue of not needing to loose weight I would definitely recommend that you do the maximum 12 drinks a day and if you hafta add more syrup.

                                10 days is just the minimum and if you're taking in enough lemonade and your weightloss is minimal I would encourage you to go past the minimum. The body is not fully adapted to fasting till around 15 days and after that is when some actual "real" healing starts taking place. For me a "minimum" MC is 21 days. If I'm gonna put that much effort into it I'm gonna get some "real" healing out of it even if it's just for preventative measure.

                                At day 22 right now for me it's a walk in the park including a 2 day camping trip and paddling white water. The biggest thing I miss is the social aspect because so much is based around food and/or having a few drinks. Part of the big enjoyment for me when I camp is fixing elaborate meals by the fire but I just shut it off this weekend and I was just fine. A huge portion of a successful MC is your mental attitude. You can not allow yourself to whine or entertain any negative thoughts and attitudes which is something that goes on this forum way too often which helps no one and much less the one doing the whining.

                                While the physical healing is the main objective of the MC for "me" after the first 40 dayer I can tell you the mental aspect was by far the greater benefit. I was like a total reprogramming and a great sense of pride to have that much control and taking the responsibility for my wellbeing.

                                Prolly the best thing you can do for your health in between cleanses is to start juicing veggies daily. Not only will you get some readily assimilable mega nutrition but you can tailor your juices to address any particular ailment. Wheat grass juice is an amazing food and I encourage you to do a little research on it's benefits. Adding veggie juices and wheat grass juice to your daily diet will keep your system detoxing gradually and help you strengthen your digestive system and your whole system in general.
