Well I talked to a lady at work today about my diet and she really discouraged me. I was telling her about some of the stuff I have been eating the last couple days and she gave her opinion on a few of the things. She said that bananas have lots of potassium and arent good for the kidneys. She said cherries have lots of toxins and lots of sugars. She said salmon has mercury in it. She said potpie isnt good cause of eggs being in dough and margarine in the gravy.
I had 4 bananas today by the way. 2 for breakfast and 2 during day. Not sure if thats too much. I also had another plate of beef potpie tonight. I was just really hungry for a mainmeal when I came home from work.
So are cherries and bananas and salmon really that bad? The diet I saw online said just raw fruits and vegetables,it didnt say not this one or that one.
food that is grown the way God intended (ie organically without poisons) is good for you, in balance. everything else is suspect. eating two bananas a day is good, eating 10 a day is not so good, just be balanced. margarine is full of trans-fat and should be avoided, as should white flour, White Sugar , and all highly processed starchy sugary foods.
cherries? sounds great, i say eat em up. you can't go wrong eating fresh organic (when availalbe) fruits and veggies, and don't listen to fear mongers. the person who told you about bananas and cherries probably went to eat at mcdonalds after that. what does she know?
now, heavy metal in fish IS unfortuanately something ot worry about. we have poisoned our oceans so you have to be careful. you can buy fish oil that is mercury free. but just keep the fish to a minimum, no more than 2 or 3 servings a week, i know of no other method to deal with mercury in fish.
you may want to get a good book on a healthy diet. there are so many like "the makers diet" or the rainbow foods diet (forget the actual name). maybe look at the book recomendations in the "raw food" forum.
growing your own sprouts is a WONDERFUL addition to all diets. check out the sprout forum for great info on that. hope this helps a bit.
Well this lady is apparently a diabetic and her doc told her to eat only 5 cherries a week at most. So 4 bananas is too much? As far as cherries, I guess natural sugars are better then processed ones like in packaged items. My mom rarely does fish on the grill and so I doubt i'll be having that again anytime soon.
I'm a real anxious person and this diet has me stressing out and worrying like you wouldnt believe. Worrying about eating cherries, too much bananas, eating beef potpie, eating 2 whole salmons, eating leftover fish in microwave(forget the kind, but wasnt salmon),etc..im PARANOID
thats why i think you really should choose one diet and stick to it. the makers diet is a very comprehensive approach, it works for many. but there are other diets that are great also. just do some research, and find one particular dietary philosophy that resonates with you, and then try that approach out whole heartedly. and then be sensitive to your body and listen to what it tells you.
trying to create a good diet from the ground up can be daunting, enlist the help of a professional and take their advice.
Maybe it wouldn't be a good idea for her to eat too many cherries or bananas because she's a diabetic, but if you're not a diabetic, I don't know why she would try to tell you they aren't good for you. No more than 5 cherries per week just seems a little ridiculous if you ask me.
If you feel okay after eating some bananas and cherries during the day, then that seems like a great meal.
Worrying about what you eat can weaken your digestion. Keep your mind out of your stomach :).
It doesn't matter if their in fresh water, farm raised fish are fed toxic food and scraps of dead diseased fish, these toxins then accumalate in their bodies which you eat. They are much higher in PCBS and other contaminants than wild. Farm fish also do not have the proper vitamins and minerals in their bodies and they are usually artifically colored to make them look appealing. Fresh wild caught is the only fish that you should be eating. I encourage you to read up on the very harmful effects of eating farm raised fish. Beware that not all fish sold in health food stores is wild, check the labels. Most of the fish sold in regular grocery stores is farmed raised. If your interested in eating a healthy diet ask your mom to buy your food at a health food store. Most food sold in regular grocery stores is full of pesticids, heavy metals, artificial colors and flavors, and other toxins that are very harmful to your body and health. Anything that is not organic, wild caught, free-range, or grass fed is going to harm your health and lead to disease. Good luck
did you mean tapioca? then it all depends on how it's made and what's it made from. If the tapioca comes from a box with a lot of bad ingredients such as corn syrup and is not organic then it is not healthy. However, if you were to make your own tapioca from scratch using organic indredients without any additives than it would not be so unhealthy. it sounds like your not quite sure what would be a healthy thing to eat yet you are very concerned with eating the right things. and since your mom seems like the one making your food if you want to be on a healthy diet your going to need to ask her to shop at health foods stores for you or do it yourself. if your mom will be the one making your food you need to explain to her the kinds of foods you want to eat and what is unhealthy and you won't eat. walking into a health food store starts a whole jouney of discovery into the wonderful world of good, wholesome, and healthy foods so if you haven't now the time. you need to learn what kind of ingredients are bad and check the labels. Pretty much anything boxed is not good but you can sometimes get away with it if it is made with organic ingredients and no additives. if you want to eat a healthy diet it sounds like you need to start doing some research on it and making changes. we'll all be here to support you. good luck!!
like all fish as long as it's wild caught it's fine. it's not good to eat any fish that is farm raised no matter what the type. ask your mom if it's farm raised. im guessing it is. then maybe you could thank her for the offer and ask if she could get you some wild caught instead. just some suggestions. good luck
hey just looked up tilapia. sounds like it's pretty much a farm raised fish because there's some anxiety about catching it wild..... sorry just kinda glanced at an article. maybe that wouldn't be the best fish to eat then, some good ones would be salmon, red snapper, halibut, and swordfish...again ask your mom to get this at a health food store as that's probably the only place you'll find wild caught. good luck
Gosh,I feel so bad and STUPID asking all these questions. Is there any reason why the outside of my stomach gets tender and sore? I mean like if you touch my stomach its very sore/tender. Its mainly below my bellybutton the whole way across, so I dont know if thats considered the stomach or not since its down to the crotch area. The soreness goes down to the top of both legs. My whole stomach also feels hot. Even like my shorts and boxers make it more irritated because its touching the skin I guess. It does seem related to my digestive system or bowels somehow. It does happen every now and then as well. Everytime I move or walk it hurts more because of my clothes rubbing against the sore areas. somehow..it seems related to my bowel movements. Im a hypochondriac and have anxiety and its just drivin me nuts cause I cant move without feeling the soreness!
Its really driving me nuts and not any people are responding to my message about it. Its SO sore and burny. All I ate today was fruits and vegetables. Not sure why the top of my upper legs and crotch would also have the same soreness.
hey, sorry I don't have any experience with what your talking about but it sounds like a toxic colon. Try researching it on google. Some good things to do for the colon would be to take probiotics and do a Colon Cleanse . Eating nothing but fruits and veggies should help but it will probably take time and you will have to be consistent with it. Also, make sure that your fruits and veggies are organic and thoroughly washed because they could be harboring bacteria, viruses, and heavy metals that could cause constant irritation in the colon. Another I know is good for the colon but I'm not sure how it would work in your case is to eat flax seeds. One thing is important to keep in mind is that all problems related to our health our caused by one thing, bad lifestyle. by cleaning up your diet, doing colon, liver, and heavy metals cleanses, and making sure to think positive and say positive words will cure the root cause of all your health and emotional issues. Good luck and you might try posting this on another forum related to the digestive system to get an answer from someone who has experience this.
you also might want to take a look at this and see if any of these diseases match your symptoms http://curezone.com/dis/1.asp?C0=846 This could be of great help. Good Luck!!
going on day 3 now of this ANNOYINGS S***. i have to work a 9 shift at work today! stuff like this usually passes in a few days but.
Ive had soreness like this before down there but not this bad. I do remember I had a very large bowel movement on weds night and it really started after that. if that makes sense..
If you listened to all of the people and experts who say you shouldn't eat this or you shouldn't eat that there would be nothing else to eat! However, there are some things that are just so full of chemicals that they aren't very good for anybody, fish is one of them. Margarine is very, very toxic and should not be eaten by anyone. Anyting man made is bad. The only things you should eat are fresh whole foods that you would find in the wild. This would be fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds preferably all raw. You could also eat whole unrefined grains, raw milk, wild fish, free-range poultry, and grass fed beef but these do tend to cause problems for people even if they are fresh. But, everyone is different and all of these foods will not be good for everyone. For instance I get irratated when I eat strawberries, cherries, or oranges. I also do not do well on grains or milk, be it raw and unrefined or not. The only way to really know if something is good for you is to use kinesiology testing. By testing the strength of the muscles when holding certain foods you will see what foods are good for you and what are not. If you feel good and enjoy eating bananas and cherries then go right ahead and eat them. But stay away from beef potpie, it is made from refined and toxic ingredients, and make sure your fish is wild and limit it to only a few times a week. Just remember that what is ones man medicine could be another mans poison. Everyone is different!
The only problem is that lady probably misread an article somewhere about kidneys. Now if you have kidney disease there is a possiblity of them not being able to handle an excess amount of potassium or anything else for that matter. Most Americans and Canadians get far too little potassium. Lack of potassium in the body can lead to heart problems. Of course the doctors always have a magic pill to take care of that little problem don't they? The RDA is 4.7 grams and 4 average bananas are about 1.6 grams. Now you have to add up all of the various things you eat but I seriously doubt that you are getting too much. It is almost impossible to eat enough food to get excess potassium. It has been estimated that only 10% of us get enough potassium and that is probably people who are keenly aware of the problem as most of us are not. We need the potassium for the kidneys to balance out all of the excess sodium we get in our diets. Ideally we should get the same amount of potassium as we do sodium and I suspect most of us don't. I certainly wouldn't worry about potassium causing kidney problems because it doesn't. I suspect the lady had read an article on hyperkelemia which occurs when your kidneys aren't functioning properly and cannot process the potassium. Hyperkelemia symptoms include tingling os the hands and feet and muscular weakness and sometimes even paralysis.
Generally speaking, don't listen to diabetics. Not unless they cured their diabetes or something. They do weird stuff that doesn't apply to regular people, and sometimes is just plain bad. Like using lots of artificial sweeteners which are soooo toxic. And avoiding healthy foods that have a lot of natural carbs or sugars (like cherries).
Generally speaking, if you are not diabetic, then any fruit or vegetable is good for you, go ahead and eat it.
bkrisp gave you some great advice.
Another consideration for fish (wild-caught only is right! and ocean fish is much better than "fresh" water fish) is to eat wild-caught sardines. The smaller the fish, the better. Anchovies, that kind of thing. Perhaps you can find this in the store. They are canned and will last a while. I eat some smoked, water-packed wild-caught sardines from Norway. YUMMMM they are amazing!
I agree that diabetics do so many bad things for their health. But hey, don't say don't listen to diabetics. It's not the diabetics fault, it's the bad advice that the doctors give them, and I know because I'm a type 1 diabetic. By the way, any fruit or veggie is good for diabetics too. That stuff about fruit being bad for diabetics is such crap. Funny thing is though that they say you need milk, nothing ever made my blood sugar going higher than a glass of milk. And when I stopped drinking it my blood sugars were so much better the docs couldnt believe, yet they still freaked out because they said I wouldn't get enought calcium. HONESTLY!!
Okay, well obviously generalizations have their flaws. I wouldn't recommend anyone listening to the typical diabetic (which you obviously aren't). Or pretty much any traditional doctor! haha
My granddad had diabetes onset in mid-life. For 20 years he used insulin, then he changed doctors and this one got him off the insulin and he controlled it just by diet. He would eat an apple or pear as a dessert 1 or 2 times a day. He pretty much ate vegetables and meat, not much bread or carbs. He'd eat peanut butter crackers as a snack if he was out of the house. Bran cereal with milk in the evening. It wasn't the ultimate health food diet but overall it was pretty healthy, better than most people. He'd do a vinegar footbath every night. Not bad! He was in good health for many many more years, actually he died from complications of a knee replacement surgery he could have done without (in retrospect), not related to his diabetes.
Of his two sons, one is diabetic and the younger one pre-diabetic. They eat anything they want to, pretty much, plenty of refined carbs and desserts and junk, plus choking down tons of artificial sweeteners and artificially sweetened products. Ugghhhhhh.
I know a young 20-something man who is diabetic, he has one of those machines that is attached to him to inject the insulin everytime he eats, anyway he requested red velvet cake (the real thing) for his birthday and ate a lot. I've seen him eat dessert on numerous occasions. It's quite troubling to me.
I know, I know. It's really awful. I remeber I was testing my blood one time and this lady asked me if I was a diabetic. When I said yes she started go on about how she used to be a nutritionist and how great artificial sweeteners are for people with blood sugar problems. She said she knew this type 2 diabetic who just loved splenda and uses it all the time. I was just horrified. I really wish I could tell every diabetic that it doesn't have to be that way and they can have well controlled blood sugars. When I go to my doctor I get an A1c which is a number that they get from a drop of your blood that shows what range your blood sugars have been the last 3 months. Mine is always a 6.9. When I was eating the SAD diet it was a 8 and they were telling me that was good for a diabetic, I was in the 300-400s all the time!(normal is 80-120)That just tells you how bad people are controlling it. Most diabetics end up in the hospital at least once a year and I've only been twice, the time when I was diagnosed and after a water fast that I didn't do correctly. It makes me so sad! What I don't understand is that the doctors know that I don't eat their diet with all that bread and milk and they see how good I'm doing but they never would think that oh, maybe this is what really works, we should be recommending this instead. Honestly!!
Yeah, that's like my uncle. He had high blood pressure, but didn't want to take the meds. He said he wanted to try to control it through diet, first. The doctor said it couldn't be done. Well, he switched to high-raw vegan and BAM his blood pressure is low now. When he went in for his tests and he had such dramatic change, the doctor wasn't impressed, didn't even ask him how he didn't. This doctor was his FRIEND and he didn't even care! He didn't even want to know - even though it could help other people!
i just want to ask if a diabetic person have a complicate in eye diases such as catarac, and If a person have a diabetic is there a possibility that his/her heart can also infected by a diabetic diases....
