Has anyone had probelms with their health follwing removal of a tooth or wisdom teeth? I have been fighting osteomyelitis of the lower jaw following wisdom teeth extraction and wonder what treatment other people have been doing to get themselves better.
I haven't had the problem, in fact I had to do a search to find out what it was. I do have a suggestion.
See a dentist that does cavatations. I had an infection in the jaw bone where I had a root canal removed a few years earlier. The dentist that pulled the tooth failed to clean out the socket where the tooth was removed.
The dentist (holistic)layed open the gum and with a burr on a drill cleaned out all the bacteria and infection which was like a mushy condistency down to the good bone. Then closed it up so it could heal. He might have put some medication in there first, I don't recall. I also was put on antibiotics.
Found a site that mentions the problem and what I have described.
What you described, I have- an infection in the jaw bone. I have had this debrided twice. This has been over a 4 year period. I still have pain there and my immune system is still low. The oral surgeon will not go in again. I am trying to build up my immune system but as you would know if you have a dental infection it has to be removed otherwise you become toxic- like me.
The problem here in australia is that it is not recognised as being a serious thing. Two oral surgeons flately said no that there was nothing wrong with my jaw. I finally found one to operate and the bone was gangrenous. I am trying to get info so I can show hte oral surgeon the importance of having this done, until I feel better.
So, thanks for the web site. Do you know a specialist in your country (USA) that I could maybe contact.

This is the Oral surgeon that removed my Root Canals.
His billing indicates he treated my for Osteonecrosis surgery which is for a hole in the bone.
He was moving the last time I saw him and the telephone listing hasn't been changed so I don't know his address. I tried to call the office, but it's after hours and they didn't provide an address on the recording.
He also treats TMJ and Diabetes with a machine called the anodyne machine. It is an infared therapy that promotes healing by making blood rush to the area being treated. He made me rent one for 8 weeks when he was doing the work on me. It is supposed to be good for clearing the lymph nodes which one of the links I have enclosed said is important to treating your problem.
Don't know if they are available in your country, but you might check to see if they have any treatment centers like they do here
If you need his address, I can call again during hours and get it for you.
Thanks you are a gem. Don't worry about the address, I will just call him and see if I can send my OPG over. There is another dentist, I found in the past few days, from reading through the archives. I am going to give him a ring as well.
they r called cavitations and i had one that ate a lot of my jaw bone away. my dentist went in and scraped away a bunch of dead jaw bone. i have to have it redone. sometimes u have to do that.
