Hi Shelley,
I have recently switched from what I thought was the good, pure, unadulterated Sea Salt ("Pacific Salt" from New Zealand-solar dried, no additives)because my holistic doc looked at it and said it was 'questionable' because it had been brought to 'fine white grains'. That is, rather than the celtic type being grey and looking less processed. My questions are....
1. Is 'celtic' the only truly good salt?
2. How much of this good salt in our diet is too much?
3. I am craving salt more than usual right now. Nothing has changed as far as my exercise levels etc go-could it be because of my having to exclude sugars and starches at present that affects this and causes an increased desire for salt?(the doc did say that my body was lacking salt-but she said that prior to the dietary changes).
Salt cravings is one of the few cravings you can trust. Naturally you don't want to go overboard, but if your body says you need it chances are you do. I just stick my finger in my Sea Salt and lick it clean, the cravings go away. :)
Do you know aabout how much salt you use a day? Are you eating products that have their own salt?
Apart from eating out once or twice a week, I make all of my own food(no pre-prepared or frozen packages etc).I may take in/use one to one and a half teaspoons a day.
And re. this 'celtic thing'-is that the only Sea Salt that is authentically good??
The past few days whilst I have had diarrhea I tend to feel better when I have a teaspoon of Celtic Sea Salt in water and drink it down. I tend to lose the mind fog and nausea when I have this drink. And I feel balanced again. Is this all in the mind or is it actually helping my body while it 'core dumps' whatever it is doing right now? If I drank a teaspoon in salt water everyday whilst I have diarrhea is that safe?
When you have diarrhea you get dehydrated. In order to rehydrate properly you need to take a bit of salt with your fluids so your brain signals your body to retain the water rather than expel it. So the alleviation of those symptoms makes perfect sense! dehydration is quite serious indeed. We will die from lack of water in 3 days. We can survive without food for 30.
The best rehydrating drink has a bit of glucose/sugar in it as well as salt, and citrus for electrolytes. Basically it's limeade. Check out my FAQ, there's a post called Cleansing & Rehydrating drink for recipe. This is the recipe they've used in India for hundreds of years to combat dysentary. they have many more cases of such illness but fewer deaths per capita than the US because we use pediasure instead of simple limeade.
Excellent information! Not sure about the glucose/sugar as I have Candida but will give it a try because I do not get any reactions when I have sugar I just know I shouldn't have it. I also posted yesterday about the Spirulina giving me diarrhea and you said it could be either actual Spirulina and/or the die-off from the Spirulina. I did some scrying with my Pendulum (I have been scrying for years but never thought to use it with supplements I am taking for verification) and it said that the Spirulina is giving me both the diarrhea and die-off and it is too harsh for my adrenals that are just starting to pick up. I am feeling a lot better today with only a slight amount of diarrhea upon waking. I never completely rely on scrying but it hasn't failed me yet. Once again thank you for being a true blessing from God.
oh that's so great that you use a pendulum!!! :) I use kinesiology myself, and yes it IS tough to use it for supplements/foods guidance at times. But I've seen people use the pendulum to great effect for wonderful guidance.
Some candida people do fine wtih a bit of unsulphured molasses or brown rice syrup or even grade B maple syrup as their sweetener. So long as you don't overdo it should be fine. :) The complete no-sugar rule should be in effect for at least a month, but after than a teaspoon or tablespoon a day shouldn't exacerbate yeast too much.
THANX I will give those sweeteners a try after Xmas (in case of bad reaction). I have had kinesiology done many times but it sounds as if you are doing it for yourself, can one person conduct accurate kinesiology on themselves? How? I would like to pass this info onto my folks who are not Internet aware enough to use these message boards.
OH yes. Machaelle Small Wright of the Perelandra Center for nature research came up with a single-personal kinesiology that is quite effective! I use it when figuring out what flower essences I need etc.
Here's a link. Be sure to peruse the site and products, it is a wealth of real-world solutions! :)
THANX again! One last question, as I still have diarrhea, I went through my supplements and continued scrying. All my supplements gave good feedback to the scrying apart from probiotics. Besides Spirulina the only new supplement I am taking is a probiotic and I have two brands here as my daughter also uses them and I got a very strong negative for both brands of the probiotics. Negative for me means that right now it isn't right for my body (may be ok later). I have, however, been eating a good yogurt from a health food shop with no diarrhea, should I just use the yogurt for now and stop the probiotics and see if my diarrhea goes away? I don't really understand how a probiotic could be giving me diarrhea? I thought they were very good for everyone.
even if something is "good" for you it can cause diarrhea, especially if it's a probiotic and changing the balance of your gut flora. It's just how things equalize. :)
The yogurt sounds excellent. Kefir tends to have a wider strain of friendly bacillus, so you may want to scry for that too. :)
Hmmm ok just when I think I am all out of questions on this thread another haunts me. Having diarrhea with Spirulina and probiotics mean that they are not good for me to take or does it mean that they are cleaning out Candida and other nasties? I am going to lay off them over Xmas just so I feel better but if they are cleaning me then I will most certainly go back on them at a later stage. *prays I don't have any further questions to bug you*
THANX A MILLION! Your advice makes one feel safer and happier to cope with all this yukkiness. Reading your posts over the past month or so have ceased my anxiety attacks (they were putting me in hospital) and also aided my recovery amazingly so I can continue work in the New Year (I work in Television). Oprah Winfrey gained Dr Phil his own show she should do the same for you as you heal so many people and give positive health affirmations in your posts. 'The Ask Shelley Show' perhaps? :D
