So far (at 50 years old)I have been able to remain prescription free - and I intend to keep it that way!! Praise the Mighty One, Jesus Christ~!!!!!
Yesterday, I went to see my Rheumatologist for my Fybro just to see if there have been any new developments. It has been 9 years since my "diagnosis" and my original doc had retired (lol) so I had to see his replacement. When the nurse did my intake info, she asked me what meds I was on...to which I replied "none". Not even over the counter pain relief...to which I said "no". Her reply...I am not sure we can see anyone who is not on any meds~!! This was supposed to be humor - I found it very disturbing. She asked what I was doing for pain relief and I told her: exercise, bi-weekly massage, hot baths and ice packs. The doctor had absolutely NOTHING to offer me other than new prescription medications. I asked him why I would want to do that since there was no cure for Fybro and I cannot see the benefit of being on a medication indefinitely. Medications that he must admit would cause other side effects/problems. He would NOT deny this...and told me to just keep doing whatever I have been doing. DUH!? Wondering why I wasted my $20 copay and an hour of my time...oh well...!
Just think...if everyone went off their meds...most docs would have to get a second job~!!
Disclaimer: I am NOT recommending that anyone go off their prescription drugs without their doctor's approval~! (Just to be safe - hehehe)
>>Tell me, how did the doctor diagnose you with fibro?<<
There is a standard procedure for diagnosis which includes an inventory of symptoms along with certain "tender points" that always go along with Fybro. I have all of them.
>>What is the pain like?<<
It varies...exercise (even walking up a flight of stairs) causes extreme burning in my muscles. Ironic, exercise is one of the best remedies for Fybro! Also, I have chronic dull pain (stiffness and soreness) in my neck and shoulders. Often, I will have a muscle spasm that causes sharp piercing pain in either my back or my hip. Sometimes the pain is on one side only...sometimes it is on both sides. One day it will be one place...and the next day somewhere else.
