"If we sin we have a provision in 1Jn 1:9 to confess our sin (simply agree with God that we have missed the mark) and fellowship is restored."
i see no difference between what you said and what i said
hi,
madame you are correct. i was wrong in my choice of words. you repent and as you said you receive the holy spirit at the time if baptism.which should be complete submersion.symbolic of the old self being buried and a new person rising.at that moment is when the person is anointed with oil and has hands of the minister/s and sometimes decons placed upon the persons head and they are prayed over.
i am very sorry for my error.i was not trying to deceive or mislead anyone.it was my mistake and i take full responsibility. i humbly appoligize to you and all that read that post.

lightbringer, you are incorrect about baptism. the flesh really does die, and it is the holy spirit which keeps the body alive after that. note in acts chapter 5:
1But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
3But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
5And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
6And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
7And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.
8And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.
9Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.
10Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
11And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
when the holy ghost left these people, their bodies died. it was HE who was keeping them alive. this is explained by paul in romans 6:
3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
we are freed from the flesh by its death and it no longer has dominion over us. we can choose not to sin, and therefor sinning is intentional thereafter. and as paul points out in another place, this is not a good position to be in:
Hebrews 10:26
For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
which means we best be walking according to the spirit and following jesus who tells us not to judge and tells us that we are forgiven only those things that we forgive others. in other words, god will not be mocked, we will reap what we sow, especially considering we have been given a fresh start and a new life. it is best to have dominion over our flesh and not sin.
My votes, albeit simplistic ones:
1) Pastors are into numbers. Church growth = success.
2) Believers are too caught up in materialism to take the time to be believers. Tyranny of the urgent and all that. "What would Jesus do" is a slogan to wear on a child's trinket. Don't have time to read Shelton's book much less the Bible, but hey, don't mess with my Sunday or Monday night football or West Wing, Desperate Housewives, Apprentice, Extreme Home Makeover, CSI, or American Idol!
just kidding. lol it is the only one of those you mentioned that i have ever watched. the las vegas one. gil is great. when asked, one time, what got his juices flowing he said, "someone who doesnt judge me". that was awesome.
but i digress. i agree with your assessment, and more.
I started to read it a while back, as a friend encouraged me to. I think I got to about day 7. It was really like watered down chicken soup. You could taste what it was supposed to taste like - but it didn't taste strong enough, and there were a few chicken bones that shouldn't have been there. I really have no judgement on it, as I am glad for those it helps, but Ho! Why aren't we teaching our kids biblical principles? This is what it really comes down to, and I realize nobody is perfect when it comes to raising kids - but if we'd just take the time to teach them understanding and wisdom, if we'd take precious time to raise them to be godly men and women who are able to eat strong meat! It is a very big deal, and it takes a lot of praying and reading the word, which sadly is what the problem is. It's 3rd and 4th generation by now. The Church isn't the food, God's word is!
You are right. MY little daughter, age 7.5, started talking about things of Christ and things on what is right. Finally after several months she asked to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Spent some time(2-weeks)talking her out of it. Finally realized that she meant it. So praise the Lord, she got baptized. What a good feeling to have the child a Christain under His Token. That is my 4th child, the others are 25,28. and 31 years old.
