Dr Schultz suggests using live Aloe Vera. Nurseries sell aloe vera plants with large green prickly fronds. Would the aloe vera sold at regular nurseries be nutritious and safe to eat?
Also, on the same subject . . . what is the best way to learn about finding herbs growing in the wild to use in tinctures? When I look at pictures in books . . . it is hard to tell variations in plants.
There are hundreds of different kinds of aloe plants. I believe there is only one that is considered to be medicinal Aloe Vera. Do you trust your nursery person? Many of them are quite knowledgeable and others are just there for the paycheck.
The other problem with aloe vera is that it must be used or ingested almost immediately as it begins to break down shortly after harvesting.
I have heard there is a product on the market that is patent pending. The company has found a way to stablilize and standardize aloe vera. I will try to find out about it if you are interested.
A multinational company is doing a lot of product selling and marketing in my vicinity, promoting aloe vera based products from aloe barbadensis. It claimed to own the patent for stabilizing the aloe gel resulting to a shelf life of up to four years. I am concerned about the credibility of their products and if their claims to the healing power of aloe vera are exaggerated.
