I live in New York and I'm feeling ashamed to be an American these days. I just hope the rest of the world knows that this country is full of artists and free-thinkers who are Anti- Bush and his regime.
Wrong, this country is full of hard workers who pay bills and accomplish goals. These people are behind Bush. It's the hard working people who hold up the losers who are artists. All the artists do is make pretty things to look at. The hard working American knows what the "REAL" world is all about. It's "daddy's little rich boy" artist in college who doesn't know a damn about suffering or injustice. Being against this war is being pro-ditatorship. Being against this war is being against freedom.
Do you think Saddam gives artists their rights? Do you think Saddam backs free expression? The political situation of the country is irrevelant. Here we have two world superpowers taking control of another nation. In otherwords they are superimposing their beliefs upon another nation regardless if they are so called justified in their own opinion. Now Democracy was not born over night it came about by people being persecuted from another superpower (Britian) and it did not come from without, it came from within. What you fail to realize is the situation in the middle east. Most of these countries do not share the social and religious/beliefs that you do. Now what gives you or any one else the right to use force so that your beliefs, religious and socal so that they will become the norm? what if another superpower was around at the time that america was being born and another superpower came in and invaded and set up their type of government? United States wouldn't exist. Now I agree that Sadam is a ruthless killer but so was the England at the time when america was being born. RE slavery. Now during the last Gulf war bush senior called upon the Iraqi people to uprise and they did also the americans came in, and then the americans pulled out before ousting sadam hussein. Now I ask you is the west or saddam h responsible for the 300,000 or more deaths that the american military left after the uprising? which also by the way supplied helicopters and military equiptment including chemicals (anthrax from fort Detrix)?
American foreign policy in the 80's supported saddam he was an ally that was fighting Homenei(sp) (Iran) with american supplied equiptment. If America was so intent of spreading the "gospel" of democracy why did it support another dictator to attack and kill another dictator? who is to blame here saddam or the people who gave him the military equiptment in order to wage the war?

You draw parallels in history that make no logical sense or any kind of cohesive sense. We didn't make peace with a country and then violate a treaty like Germany did in WWII. Iraq and the U.N. had a cease-fire agreement in 1991 that was violated. It's Iraq who is violating international law. The U.S. is enforcing U.N. resolutions that "some" countries are either too gutless to enforce or have too much to lose to want to enforce. That's the reality of this war. This war is being fought for all the right reasons. Freeing a country from a brutal dictator and taking a future provider of weapons to terrorists away from the world.
Also, you can trace a great number of companies who invested in German interests in the 1930's before WWII. None of these investors understood just how awful the Nazies would become.
