All the lubricants on the market -- even the ones at health food stores -- contain nasty chemicals that you don't want on your skin, much less on sensitive areas like a penis or vagina. So my wife and I recently started using coconut oil (organic extra virgin -- nothing but the best!)
It works great! My wife has a tendency to get yeast infections but hasn't got one since we started using coconut oil -- maybe because coconut oil has anti-fungal properties.
Anyway, that's our experience. Your mileage may vary of course!
Actually, the finest coconut oil costs far less than a lubricant you buy at Whole Foods. A small tube of lubricant costs about 5 bucks and contains about 1.5 oz. of product. That's over $3.00 an ounce.
A quart (32 oz.) of Tropical Traditions' finest certified organic virgin coconut oil costs $25.00 -- less than $1.00 an ounce.
If you buy the organic expeller pressed coconut oil (still very pure and much healthier and safer than the lube you buy in stores), it's $18.00 a quart. That's only 50 cents an ounce -- one-sixth the price of the lubricant.
Plus, we've saved money by not having to buy antifungal medication for over a year!
Coconut oil is an excellent choice for a lubricant and massage oil. It should not, however, be used with latex condoms, as it is not water soluble. If using condoms, there are some good water based products on the market but a lot of them cannot be ingested. Pure aloe vera gel is a good option, but it needs to be reapplied frequently since it dries out.
If something can not be ingested, then it shouldn't be anywhere else in our bodies where it can be absorved. The aloe vera sounds like a good option, even if it needs to be re-applied often.
I agree. That's why I generally recommend natural products. I'm not a big fan of products such as Astroglide, although many people like them because of their texture and durability.
What's wrong with using coconut oil with latex condoms? We do, and it seems to work fine.
You wouldn't want to use a petroleum-based product with latex condoms because it would eat through the latex. But I haven't found that to be true with coconut oil.
I think they suggest water-soluble lubricants because the alternative is presumed to be petroleum jelly which, as I mentioned, would eat through the latex. I don't think vegetable oils are on their radar screen!
In our experience of well over a year using coconut oil with condoms, it has worked fine. No failures. I don't think there's any reason for concern whatsoever.
We have been using Albolene for years. It tends to remain effective, i.e. slippery, but not greasy like Vaseline. Since I have had a vasectomy, we have no use for condoms and never did like them . Since Albolene is semi-solid when coming out of the jar it is easy to handle but has melts at body temperature. Also, it's easy to clean up.
I just have to respond back with a thank you.
Tried the coconut oil. By the way my husband was very enthusiastic to aid in this endeavor. Good stuff on so many levels, that coconut oil.
After doing so many cleansings and drinking and doing some really nasty things, I was delighted to do a cleansing thing so pleasant.
The coconut oil aided the experience(s) (did I mention that this was good stuff) and felt very healing afterward. Some yeast symptoms I was having subsided with the...treatments. It also made my husband feel good that he could help me and, well it was a good thing for him too.
Did I mention, thank you.
Using any type of organic sex lube is the best way to go. Although, it might be safer to buy a real organic sex lube rather than just using regular cooking oils. I found this site that has a lot of details about organic sex lube you can check it out. There is many different types to choose from. http://www.organicsexlube.com
My husband and I started using coconut oil for lubricant about 4 months ago and love it! We also use it as massage oil. I haven't had any problems with yeast infections since I started using it as a lube and that had been a monthly problem for me for years. If you aren't a fan of coconut, but really need a safe and natural lubricant try a few different brands before giving up. Some coconut oils have more of a coconut oil taste or scent than others. There is bound to be one out there that you will like. We started initially using the store brand coconut oil from our health food store, but heating it every time we wanted to use it and having to spoon it out was a pain. We recently started using a product called SemPure. It is coconut oil, only it stays liquid at room temperature. It has helped put the spontaneity back in our bedroom, but still keep me yeast infection free.
One big bonus of coconut oil as lubricant is that it stays on in water. So it is a great alternative to silicone lubes if you want to have a romantic time in the hot tub or pool. If you plan to use condoms and coconut oil for lube you will need to use a non-latex condom. The coconut oil is fine on the lambskin and polyurethane condoms, but can cause latex to break.
I agree! Coconut oil is my new love affair. It is beyond amazing to replace as a cooking/baking oil. I try to use it on almost everything I make in the kitchen.
As a lubricant it seems to be very healing! I've been having pains during intercourse, mainly in the right side of my abdomen, for some time now. I've been to the doctor and had everything checked out, including an ultrasound, but it all came back clean. I used coconut oil as a lubricant and found that the pain all but disappeared!
There is now a USDA certified organic personal lubricant that is made with coconut oil and several other very benifical oils. I was lucky enough to be a tester for this product. This is by far the best lubricant my wife and I have ever used. It's easier to apply then just plain coconut oil, which can be a bit messy. Check them out: http://www.coconu.com
Sorry if this is overstepping, but can you ask your wife if she has any advice on recurrent yeast infections. I tend to get them too, and I feel the only thing that helps is literally eating no sugar and no bread. That of course, is an awful way to live-haha! Thanks!
Hi, I've had at least 2 years of recurrent yeast infection and I read about going to sleep with a clove of garlic touching the place (mouth, vagina...) and I did this, to the first signal of infection I used to do this. I can tell you, It was the best treatment, I tried many things, remedies prescribed from doctors and nothing worked. I've been free from infections for many years now. Hope it helps, good luck. :)
