I am currently taking Purinethol 50mg, which is MP6 type of drug. Since taking this drug, I've been feeling totally awfull!, with no energy, headaches and a general "crummy" feeling. I've been on Predinsone for many year and I'm currently detoxing from it, as I'm now down to 13mg daily.
I would like some feedback from anybody taking a drug similar to mine.
Thanks, Paul S.
PS. I've been on Purinethol for a little over 1 month.
I've had Crohns since I was 20 years old. I'm now 26 years old. I'm taking 6MP as well. I've been taking this drug for approximately 1 year now. I'm taking 100mg of Purethol. I am actually feeling better since I started taking the drug. Anything is better than steroids as far as I'm concerned. They are aweful!!!!Try to avoid if possible, they only mask the symptoms for a short time. The long term consequences of steroids can be severe. To answer your question, you should be doing monthly blood tests (CBC) and your doctor should also be doing a seperate blood test to check the toxicity of the drug to determine the correct dosage. I went through hell too when I first started taking the drug. My immune system was so low, I ended up with some minor infections. Before taking the drug...using only Asacol and prednisone....I ended up with obstruction in the terminal ileium. I had to have a foot of my guts removed. Talk about wishing I were dead!!!! That was painful and quality of life was poor. Because I was on steroids for so long (year) I ended up with an infection. I had to recover from surgery and then an open wound (not fun). My recovery took approximately 3 months before I could function half way normally....6 months before I was a normal human being. Avoid steroids people!!!! I'm not sure yet if it was the surgery or it is the 6MP, but my life has improved drastically. I have been told that drinking aloe vera juice also helps people. Good luck to ya, I hope you start feeling better.
