Biliary sludge is a mixture of particulate matter and mucous that forms in bile. (Bile is the yellow-brown fluid that drains from the liver into the gallbladder where it is stored and concentrated. After meals the gallbladder contracts, squirting the bile through the common bile duct into the duodenum, where it helps to digest the fat in meals.) The composition of biliary sludge varies. The most common particulate matter in biliary sludge is cholesterol crystals and calcium salts. Occasionally drugs may comprise the particulate matter since bile is one of the major routes for excretion of drugs.
Biliary sludge has been associated with (or caused by) certain conditions including rapid weight loss, pregnancy, medications (ceftriaxone, octreotide), and bone marrow or solid organ transplantation.
Biliary sludge may cause no symptoms or cause intermittent symptoms. Biliary sludge also can progress to Gallstones or completely resolve.
Symptoms of biliary sludge include pain in the abdomen, nausea and vomiting, particularly after a fatty meal.
Biliary sludge can cause complications, including pain from obstruction of the bile ducts (biliary colic), inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), and inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis).
Biliary sludge can be detected with ultrasound of the abdomen, by endoscopic ultrasonography (ultrasonography done through an endoscope) or by directly examining bile contents under a microscope (bile microscopy).
If patients with biliary sludge develop symptoms or complications, gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy) is performed as a standard treatment in western countries.
It is very easy to flush biliary sludge by doing liver flush - cleanse.
My brother had this and it almost killed him because somehow it had "eaten through the gall bladder" and the gall bladder died, the sludge was found in his abdomen...they caught him 3 hours before he could have died...he had already started turning grey from the feet up.
They had been looking for ulcers of the Deuodenom, but had been looking for about a year (if I am correct). He had had R. Arthritis before this (also misdiagnosed) and they thought it was cancer...they put him on all kinds of drugs, steroids ect, and put him in the hospital....each time they had to take him off this one steroid because it sent his temper (already bad) flying and he practically went crazy.
finally my brother gave up on the ten doctors in his tiny town in ARkansas and went to Tulsa (our home town) to see a doctor and soon was diagnosed as having R. Arthritis. He is fine now, except for deformed fingers.
how could this have leaked out of the gall bladder???
what is the color, size, shape pf this biliary sludge?..i did the l/g flush
a few stones, but alot of these blackish looking fuzzy looking globs, floating around...
