Is there a connection between old emotions and colon cleansing?
Answer: From the work of Richard Anderson, N.D., N.M.D.
"Yes. You will find that in many cases a Colon Cleanse will purge old emotions and attitudes stored in the intestines.
Consider this case: Jessie, 20, was a vegan yet was bothered by digestive problems and candidiasis. Candidiasis, or the overgrowth of Candida albicans in the intestines, is a condition often reversed by an intense colon cleanse. During the first two weeks of the cleanse, Jessie began feeling better, but the turnaround came in week three. Jessie passed what looked like three white cotton balls (presumably Candida masses lodged in her colon), and thereafter had no more candidiasis symptoms.
In addition to her physical improvements, Jessie had an emotional benefit as well. She felt an increase in will power, a clarity in her feelings, a new desire to be of service to others, and a release of long-held resentments.
These points highlight an important aspect of colon cleansing. Many people, after completing a cleanse, feel energized, uplifted, and freed of old patterns, thoughts, feelings, and memories that have held them back. When a person is on a course of personal growth and wants to change their consciousness but is stuck in old negative patterns of thinking and feeling, there is nothing that will get them unstuck and change them faster than a colon cleanse.
In my observation of many individuals doing the colon cleanse, a negative state of consciousness is often, at an energy level, at the root of whatever physical problem they suffer from. Every thought or feeling we have has the potential of moving from the mind into the physical structure of the body where it can provoke illness. I estimate that about 70% of those doing the intensive colon cleanse will experience long-forgotten memories and buried emotions.
Often the memories and emotions surface into awareness with all their original charge and soon afterwards you pass a large section of mucoid plaque. As it passes out of your body, so go the emotions. In most cases, you don’t reexperience those particular emotional memories.
Here is what I think happens. It is as though you can magnetize proteins or undigested food left in the intestines with certain thoughts and feelings. These proteins hold onto the feelings for as long as the proteins remain in the intestines, and the old emotions and thoughts continually radiate through the body and mind.
They remain literally—tangibly—stuck in your body, somehow bound up with the mucoid plaque and contributing, though not often usefully, to the personality. Both the individual’s biochemistry and psyche are continuously negatively affected by these residues of emotionally magnetized matter.
Let’s say you were 13 and had a traumatic or deeply embarrassing experience. At some level, every cell in your body was affected by the emotions of that event. It is conceivable that some intestinal matter imprinted by that experience remains in your intestines, wrapped inside mucoid plaque and bearing the memory of the original pain (even though you are now 45 and barely remember the episode).
The personality and one’s operating belief system, after all, are controlled mainly by a massive accumulation of past thoughts and feelings. To a large extent, intestinal matter helps hold these feelings in place. The colon cleanse, by purging the intestines of the mucoid plaque, flushes out this accumulation of old negative thoughts and feelings.

Dear Dr. Anderson,
Thank you for your response to intenstinal cleansing digging up old emotions. this is a dream come true. Finally someone believes that the physical starts in the emotional, yet it is so difficult to cleanse the emotional and mental patterns without physically clearing them. I have been struggling with candida-fatigue-feelings of depression for 7 years now ( I am 22 yrs old) And I am so tired of it. I have done so much emotional work and practice mindfullness as well, yet I can not seem to break the sugar habit-physical unwellness. I am intersted in doing a Bowel Cleanse and parasite cleanse and I was wondering if I should do them at the same time. I was considering Hulda Clark s programs. I was also interested in the Fit Line Basic plus products since i read on Curezone about Lillians success with them. Can you suggest a bowel cleanse that is good. I am willing to take the time that is neccessary if I could once and for all clear this old negative stuff out. If I can do it, I feel like I would be helping the world! Please respond if you can. Thank you so much, Biancaimac
Yes! I too have been experiencing old emotions and thoughts. Spent the first day being "Weapy" and "Teary Eyed" without knowing why. Now it makes sense.
Sure will feel good to get rid of the emotional garbage that I know still affects my moods, descission making and energy levels.
Also too... experienced erratic intermitent headaches which I'm sure are from the release of stored chemicals.
To be quite honest, when you cleanse you should be getting continuous professional insights that are particular to your personal situations... that is how one can really get to the root of the EMOTIONAL :-) :-( issues while cleansing AND AFTER.
Reading what someone else said about someone else in someone elses book is just scratching the surface.
These folks offer personalized guidance before, during and long after your cleansing... and I guess that is why so many people are writing so many amazing stories about their cleansing and EMOTIONAL renewal at HPS... check them out, I cannot afford them :-( but I wish I could...
Hello Webmaster,
your thoughts are right about the colon hydrotherapy.
I mean, by chronicle deseases it must be the firtst step, plus the right nutrition.
The old stool in the colon, have a negative polarity. But the mush in the illeum and also the new stool have a positive polarity.
The old stool change the positive polarity to negative of all stuffs that get resorpted in the blood. That's terrible.
I agree with this post - It seems quite convincing.
Bowel cleansing does bring considerable relief - both physically and consequently - psychologically. I've tried it myself on atleast 5-6 occasions.
This is indeed a very though-provoking post. One must think of how much filth is being accumulated day-after-day and will be ashamed of one's body contents. Research too proves the point.
In addition, let me give you a view from Ayurveda and Indian philosophy:
Ayurveda:
Accumulated inpurities do lead to diseases. Ayurveda prescribes various elaborate regimens ranging from simple oils and complex ghees to the elaborate Panchakarma treatments. Ayurveda also recommends yogasan, pranayam for speedy elimination of impurities on a regular basis. These are good for mental well-being as well. With regular practice of yoga, meditation, one can be sure to be rid of depression or any psych. disorders.
Indian Philosophy:
Emotions are the result of the type of food we eat and the kind of resultant filth that accumulates. No doubt true. Food is classified as Sattvik, Raajasik and Taamasik based on the effect it has on the individual's overall well-being.
However, it doesnot stop at that: Emotions, thoughts are accumulated over a period of time. Not only this birth - but previous incarnations. Hence we see some people born genuises, some dead-wicked. Even twins, although similar by physical appearance, have completely different tastes, qualities and ambitions.
This is what modern psychology has termed 'Impressions of the Subconscious mind' or 'Samskaaras'. These impressions make a person think in a certain fashion and direct his actions in real-life. Some impressions are good and some are bad.
To sum-up:
Indian culture advocates that for general well-being:
- go for clean, fresh, saatvik food
- do regular cleansing
- do yoga, pranayama
In addition, spiritual methods are also suggested to take care of the impressions:
- promote and increase good-impressions through bhajan, meditation, selfless-service(seva) to the community, satsang, pilgrimages...etc
While addressing the problem at the physiological level is important(in the very short-term), mental-level is more important(for the short-term). How, it is the spiritual-level efforts that will bring a permanent solution towards HEALTH. If efforts are made at trhe physical level, the pent-up emotions are going to come-back very soon. Because they are not gone anywhere- they are very much there in the individual's subconscious mind. Removal of impressions from the subconscious requires hypnotherapy or spiritual remedies only.
Thank god i found your website. I thought I was going nuts! I had a colonic a few days ago and all has been great, feeling good. Except for some inexplicably irrational emotional issues popping up. It all came to a head today when I actually had to sit down and try and think where it was all coming from. I addressed the issues and realised that they were rooted in the past, and just because they stemmed from some years ago does not mean they were any less powerful. I now realise that this is normal after having a colonic irrigation and am simply trying to work through the issues as they come. Thanks for easing my mind!! I would have been quite worried otherwise.
