It's harder trying to stay healthy at this time of year with all the foods that are bad for you floating around.
Anyway, on with the point.
I have been doing enemeas since i saw them advocated on this site, but now i just read the online version of the Master Cleanse/ Lemonade Diet Book where the author seems to think bad of them, and says they can even be harmful???
Excerpt from the book;
"Do not take enemas or colonics at any time during the cleansing diet or afterwards. They are unnecessary and can be extremely harmful.
There is a much superior method of cleansing the colonic tract without the harmful effects of customary colonics and enemas. This method will cleanse the entire digestive tract while the colonics and enemas will only reach the colon or a small part of it. Colonics can be expensive while our salt water method is not."
Can anyone shed any light on this and make me a little less confused?!
There are some advocates of natural healing that discourage enemas and colonics...often siting that they are dangerous. Although I have heard cautions about them...including the possibility of a perforated colon (usually by the medical community)...I am unaware of this ever happening. The woman who owns the wellness center where I perform colonics has been doing colonics for about 25 years...without one single incidence of harm or damage. Frankly, I believe if there was even a single incidence of this colonics would be outlawed in a heartbeat! Actually, I have recently discovered that there is an increase of doctors/hospitals using colonics to prep for GI surgery...they are quicker, simpler, at least as effective and better tolerated by patients than the standard flush concoctions that most people have to drink the day before.
Mr. Burroughs is correct that a colonic only addresses the colon...and an enema will only clear out a fraction of the colon's contents. And he is right that a colonic requires a financial expense. However....in my opinion,,,a colonic is actually more beneficial than a salt water flush for a few reasons. Colonics not only clear the colon of fecal waste...they also help to hydrate the bowel, and a series of colonics will help to strengthen the bowel muscle and improve peristalsis. I frequently see people who have become so dependent on laxatives that they are unable to move their bowels without them. If they do a series of colonics and stop the laxatives, they are able to start having bowel movements on their own because the peristalsis is improved. Also, when any higher concentration of salt (epsom, sea, table) is introduced into the digestive system the body responds by drawing water into the intestines in order to dilute the salt resulting in a rapid expulsion. While this is not a problem once in a while, if done on any regular basis it can contribute to dehydration because less water is available for the body...which contributes to constipation and sets up the potential for a vicious cycle. This can also disrupt electrolyte balance.
Those using the Gerson Therapy, described in the book of the same title, have up to 4 coffee enemas per day. I know people who have beat their cancer and are in "maintenance mode" of one per day. I hear of no side effects from them.
I tried the Gerson approach for a while but it's a very intense method for parasite removal. When doing this I had no problems doing them daily. It takes time and supposedly can be addicting, but I quit cold turkey with no problem except for a detox headache. I'd recommend tapering off to avoid the headache.
After retaining my coffee enema in complete comfort for 25 minutes, it took a long time to evacuate. I thought maybe I diluted the coffee too much or was retaining water. Should a baking soda enema after a coffee enema encourage the body to get rid of any stored liquid in the intestine. Also as a colon therapist, would a couple of colonics before a colonoscopy be as thorough as the awful liquid taken before as prep. The liquid always makes me SICK please advise on both questions if you have the time. Thanks in advance.
the question is not "Good Or Bad", the question is "For Who?"
Both, " Sea Salt flush" and "enema" are something you can do alone, at home, you don't need any help.
It costs nothing.
But, there are people who don't like drinking awful tasting salty water or Epsom Salt water, and they perefer enema.
Eneme is actully far more safe and healthy then salt water flush.
Salt water flush will dehydrate your body, while enema will rehydrate your body.
But, it is easier for some people to drink a drink, then to do all you need to do when doing an enema.
On the other side, enema can only clean your colon, while salt water flush will clean the whole GI tract.
If you suffer an acute poisoning, then salt water flush will help much faster then enema. But a combination of both will help even faster!
So, there are many different aspects, and the only real answer for your question is:
There are people who prefer one thing, and there are people who prefer another.
But, sometimes, a combination of both is the best.
So, to find out what is the best for you, you will have to try both, and make your own answer.
your info is so helpful. i have attempted three times to ingest the salt water flush concoction and it's not possible for me. i'm very disappointed as i'm on The Master Cleanse and wanted to follow it stringently and clean out the pipes as thoroughly as possible. if i can't clean out my g.i. tract via an enema or through the stw, are there alternatives?
thank you,
jet
I have read Stanley's book and tested the Master Cleanse/ Lemonade Diet . And i was happy I did.
I do remember that Stanley was not too crazy about other methods. Providing that The Master Cleanse works well, he probably did not care to examine whether his mathod could be combined in a way with other good methods.
So I do not interpret his oppinion as: "Don't do anything else". I is more like "Don't do anything else if you do not know what you are doing".
Stanley's book has been aond for some years now. There has been lots of new info since.
By the way, where can one find his book online? I wouldn't mind to have a copy, to send to my patients and friends.
