I'm going to get at least one of my wisdom teeth removed within a few days because this one particular tooth is causing me lot's of pain. It's not fully errupted yet and really doesnt have the room to come in all the way. On the other side of my mouth the tooth is in, but I can't brush it.
If they leave a hole in my mouth, what is the best way to keep it clean?
#1-DO NOT SPIT OR SUCK-this will loosen the blood clot (scab) and may lead to dry socket-a very painful condition
#2-No smoking for 24 hours after the extraction-it will increase chance of dry socket and slow healing
#3-if the tissue is sore or irritated-lightly bite on a damp tea bag (black or green) placed on the extraction site for 20 min at a time.
#4-soft food diet
#5-your DR. should give you a syringe, if not just mix some warm water and salt and take a few sips into your mouth-don't swallow- and move your head side to side (no swishing) for a bit. Then bend over the sink and let the solution 'fall out' of your mouth (no spitting). do this every morning and night, and after you eat until all healed
#6-brush the rest of your teeth like normal
#7-cold compress on your cheeck will help with swelling
