Several folks here claim that the God of the bible talks to them... (and has talked to Christians and pre-Christian Jews throughout the ages).
In a way, yes, the power of God talks to us... through our higher selves, through our spirit guides and guardian angels, though our selfless acts for others, through the examples we set when we aid and assist in the spiritual growth of our fellow man. God speaks through love, compassion and tolerance.
But is this talking God just the God the Bible, an exclusively Christian God? One that talks just to certain Christians now days who believe in the bible and have taken Jesus Christ as their savior?
I posted that GW Bush invaded Iraq because God told him to. (I won't go into my feelings about this here, although some of you may be aware of them)
The Islamic clerics in Iraq that are involved in the 'insurgency' are urging their followers to fight to death because God tells them to. God talks to Bush in Washington. God talks to al-Sadr in Fallujah.
All through history God supposedly tells one side of a conflict they are righteous and to go to war, and tells the other side they are righteous and to go to war.
Is God schizophrenic?
Sounds like it, doesn't it?
Here is a challenge to those who believe in a strictly Christian God:
Before you just simply claim everyone else is lying, listening to, and/or worshipping a false God, and that yours is the 'Real MaCoy' ....and dismiss them as heathens, heretics, or lost souls... take a moment to see if you can make a rational and 'spiritual' case for 'your' God. Simply quoting scriptures is not going to cut it... think for yourself on this one...

A big turning point in my life was reading a book called Daniel and the Revelation by Uriah Smith. It compares the book of Daniel to history and the symbols of Revelation become so much easier to understand.
Read Rev 13, just a quick through, make a little note of the creatures of the 2nd verse.
Now read Daniel 7. This was history foretold through vision.
If you haven't heard from God yet, it is only because you are not listening. Pray and meditate on nothing... listen for love over the ringing in your ears and chatter of your mind...filter out the ego... if love comes shining through and speaks to you not from your own thoughts but God's thoughts...be still...and listen...God is talking to you.
We have a matter of semantics happening here I just realized.
God works in my life all the time. And I suppose if I had a traditional religious upbringing, I might also say that I have a 'heard' from, or 'talked to' a Christian styled God.
The Divine is a part of my live and I recognize it's power, however it wears the cloak of no relgion and and is beyond any aspect of physicality although the physical world is contained inside God....
I guess it depends on how you define God. I don't personify God. All communication to physical beings is filtered through the higher self which connects us to that which cannot be understood or translated in the physical. The force of God uses surrogates identities down through the higher planes, the arch angels, angels, guides and disembodied spiritual energies to speak through higher selves (or out oversoul) and thus it is reflected into personification to us mere mortals.
THAT is the actual mechanics of how the vast eternal, indefinable power of God communicates with humanity.
To me, God is very much like the Ain Sof of the Jewish mystics, the eternal power of infinite light. The interesting thing about the Kabbalah is that it' s ten realms are like the planes recognized by modern mystics. Earth, Astral (lower mid and high) causal, Akashic Mental , Messianic, Buddhaic ( more on this next post)
Interesting bit on God and the view from the Kabbalah...
Kabbalah
God wished to behold God, so God created the mirror we call existence. The oral tradition of Kabbalah states that the reason for existence is that God wished to behold God.
(This is also similiar to the Hindu theology of the (Dance of Shiva)
God can be visualized symbolically as follows. AIN SOF OHR, (also spelled EIN SOF OHR) the Endless Light which surrounds the void, emanated spheres or realms of light (effulgent and infinite bright). This, Kav or expansion of Divine Will, manifested in ten distinct stages of Emanation. The world was called into being by ten Divine Utterances.
Scientist have now defined our Universe as 10 dimensional with 4 space-time dimensions and 6 dimensions curled away infinitley small. This is known as the 10 dimension solution in the super-string theory.
These ten stages are known in the Kabbalah as the Sefirot. Sefirot express Divine Attributes, which from the primal moment of Emanation are lawfully held in a set of relationships until God wills them to vanish back into the Void of nothingness again.
(This is almost identical to the the Hindu concept of the out cycle of the expansion God's glory and in cycle of withdrawing God's Glory, each expansion and contraction lasting Eons and Eons.)
Also, EIN SOF is the part of God, Budhhist call Nirvana. Buddhist don't recognize the personal God because their meditative practice is to help them achieve union with Nirvana just as Buddha did (also called in Buddhist theology, the Void or Bliss).
AIN SOF is a Kabbalistic term meaning "Without End." In Kabbalah, Hashem (God) the Transcendent, is called AIN. AIN means in Hebrew "No Thing", for Hashem is beyond existence. AIN is neither below nor above; nor is it in movement or stillness. There is nowhere AIN is. Hashem is Absolute Nothing. AIN SOF is the title of God who is everywhere. AIN SOF is the One to the Zero of AIN. This is the totality of what is and is not. AIN SOF is God the Immanent, the Absolute ALL. AIN SOF has no Attributes, because attributes can only be manifest within finite (limited, bounded) existence realms and AIN SOF is (Infinite, Unbounded, Limitless) and Transcendant.
From this endless unfathomable EIN SOF GODSOURCE emanates 10 realms of existence, each less glorious than the former, until we get to the last realm, which is the realm our universe is in. At this level God manifests personality and is knowable with attributes. Another way to say it is, The Serifot are ten creative energy realms that intervene between the infinite, unknowable God ("Ein Sof") and our created finite world.

The 7 Planes of Existence
(excerpt from The Journey of Your Soul) Michael Teachings
BY SHEPHERD HOODWIN
Just as there are seven colors in the rainbow and seven tones in a musical scale, each with a different vibratory rate, there are seven levels of being on the spectrum of creation. The slowest speed of vibration occurs on the physical plane; the highest, on the buddhaic plane. From the buddhaic plane, energy returns to its source, the Tao.
Physical plane: The densest of the seven planes; where we presently reside.
Astral plane: The second plane of creation. Its medium is concrete emotional energy. It is where our consciousness is focused between lifetimes and when we're finished with the physical plane.
Causal plane: The third plane of creation. Its medium is concrete intellectual energy. It is Michael's plane of existence.
Akashic plane: The central, neutral plane of creation that interconnects the other six. The distilled knowledge of the universe is recorded there. This is the records generated of everything that happens in the universe as it occurs. The appearance is that all matter and energy have a sort of built-in digital recording device, storing its entire history in a photographic code, but the records are actually windows into the past. The records show events exactly as they were experienced, so the information in them begins raw-it is not clarified, understood, and assimilated until a consciousness takes responsibility for doing so. Once it is fully assimilated, it is stored on the akashic plane.
Mental plane: The fifth plane of creation. Its medium is abstract intellectual energy, emphasizing truth. The infinite soul who incarnated as Lao-tzu taught from this plane.
Messianic plane: The sixth plane of creation. Its medium is abstract emotional energy, emphasizing love. The infinite soul who incarnated as Jesus taught from this plane.
Buddhaic plane: The highest plane of creation. Its medium is pure or abstract kinetic energy. We experience the buddhaic plane just before fully refocusing our awareness in the Tao. The infinite soul who incarnated as Buddha taught from this plane.
For anyone that is interested in a lay person's argument for the existence of the biblically defined Christian's God - I recommend you read "Mere Christianity" by CS Lewis.
