Hi! I'm totally new here and I have posted in the Juice Fasting section, so I hope I don't get in trouble for cross posting with a similar question, but...
I am curious about all the people who have had tremendous weight loss, like 1 pound a day. What do you drinkduring the day? And how many ounces do you drink? Are you consuming 1200 calories a day, which is supposed to be a healty minimum, or is it more like 500 calories a day? I want to do this fast as healthfully as possible and I don't really want to worry about counting calories, but I also want to lose some weight as I am carrying an extra 40 pounds around!
On a normal day ill probably consume a good 3 pints of home juiced vegetables apart from that maybe a few cups of other stuff like herbal tea, lemon and molasses etc plus as much water as u like. If you juice fruits theyre more calorific so you can mix and match, experiment and find what you prefer taste wise. I recommend carrott and apple as a base with added Celery , pepper, butternut squash, beetroot etc cucumber is a little sour but a great cleanser, ginger is great for hunger pains too ! experiment and enjoy Emma.
i'll chime in (no tremendous weight loss, but hit me back in two months!)
i did optifast years ago, it worked really well for me (i think its about 500 cal a day?). i hated the cost and the taste. on my own, i use one tblspn carnation instant breakfast mixed with 8 oz soy milk (cheaper than slim fast and virtually the same ingredients). i start at 11 am or noon, drink one every 2-3 hours, stopping at 6 a day. i drink all the water i want. this works out to 990 calories a day.
nowhere near as hardcore as the other fasters in this forum, but i think we can all agree, we do what works for us. my drinks really help me out b/c it's constant feeding, i like chocolate... it'll take longer than my fellow fasters, but i know that under 1000 calories a day will eventually lead to weight loss. best for me to do it a little slower with long term results that doing it rapidly and then bingeing.
I'm not sure if I have a typical menu but I'll try to explain what I do. Every morning I take the juice of 1/2 lemon (unless it's not juicy or small then I use 1 lemon) in a cup of hot water. It starts me with the weight loss. I also drink a cup of traditional medicinals herbal cranberry weightless. It helps support weight loss and remove the bloating. Every evening I drink Traditional Medicinals smooth move herbal tea to keep the colon cleansed.
Around 10-10:30 I juice cantalope. If it's large I juice 1/4 if small 1/2. I just love the juice and it gives me energy. Sometimes I add a handful of frozen blueberries. I go for a run/walk around lunch or early afternoon. After my run I juice one large orange. It helps to replenish my energy. You should have carbohydrates within 30 minutes of working out to help replace your glycogen stores. It makes the next days run easier for me. I do run 2-4 miles 6 days a week. When I'm fasting if I have to walk a tiny bit to help with recovery I will. Then I start in again until I've finished my course. I also drink juice of 1/2 lemon with filtered water and 1 Stevia after exercise. Lemons have alot of potassium. For dinner around 5:00 I drink 3 carrots, 1/2 beet, and 1 large granny smith in juice. In the evening besides the smooth move before bed I may drink a peppermint tea. Somtimes I put fresh mint in herbal green tea. If I have trouble sleeping during the fast I will take powdered magnesium and mix it with water. The brand I get is a little sour but it helps relax me which makes sleep easier.
No vitamins, minerals, fish oils, etc. I give the digestion a rest. It has to be liquid.
During the day I drink 6-8 large glasses of water also. I hope that helps. I lost 17.5 lbs on the 19 day juice fast I just finished. I've started again today for 14-21. Find what works for you.
Daily protocol:
In the morning, I generally have a cup of black coffee, but have found that while juicing most days I skip this. I also drink 6-7.5 glasses of juice (either fruit or veg) and 7.5 glasses of water. 1.5 glasses of my water intake is mixed with approximately 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. In the evening, I also have some heated low sodium beef or chicken broth.
General Other Comments:
For the last week, my day has begun with oil pulling for twenty minutes and then some raw fish oil capsules with mny first drink of the day.
We just purchased a juicer last week, so I've been trying all kinds of things. Cucumber by itself or mixed with green cabbage is icky. Apple/Italian plum is lovely.
Teach the Word's carrot/beet/apple juice is really good, and I've been having a glass every day for 6 days now. For the last two days, I've had the red beet pee Teach the Word described last week, and it makes me happy to know that whatever it was in beets I was deficient in, I'm no longer deficient. :-)
Gaspacho juice is also extremely yummy around lunch or dinner time, just make sure to juice the cucumber before the tomatoe(s) and garlic!
Lemon in hot water supports weight loss?
Please explain. I'd never heard this before, but I like lemon in cold water all the time - like that fresh tart taste. But if it supports weight loss too, then I'll start each day with that drink.
The acid in the drink helps to start the weight loss. It's like having grapefruit. 1/2 of a grapefruit will do the same thing. You just have to be careful of grapefruit with certain meds.
