I have had my Mirena for 4-5 months and have had increasingly painful joints over the last few months. I have actually started to worry a little about these pains, but the thought occured to me today that it could be the Mirena. Does anyone else have this going on???
I did before I had it removed. I thought I was getting some sort of acute arthritis because my fingers were actually twisting. Once I had the IUD removed, my fingers were back to normal within a month.
You're lucky you have found this site straight early unlike me had to suffer a whole journey of swollen joints started on the arms then right knee which was the ultimate pain in my life...the joint problem would be similar to an arthritis or rheuma but i've gone through especialist , done alll x-ray, blood and fluid test..found nothing ....and this was in 2003 and becuase i didn't investigate nor suspect Mirena i didn't know it is causing trouble..but this year when about to time for replacement and had the new one..i found i had the same problem again but luckily the swelling didn't started yet and immediately i had an emergency removal of the mirena....so if i were you...REMOVE IT before major swelling and pain comes to you...i tell you the joint pains had gone within 2 days after removal as well the bloating in my tummy and headache and neck pain and the mood swings and depression and you name it...I am absolutely feel great everyday since the removal of my Mirena....don't wait til doctors start guessing and avoiding Mirena as major criminal in our body and health....Hope you get well soon ..take care
Oh My - My back and leg has been hurting so bad lately. I've had the Mirena for aprrox. 2 years. It was time for me to replace my copper IUD but what I didn't know is that my doctor replaced it with the Mirena without my consent until the procedures was over. I recently had a pap and my gyn couldn't find the string. I hope that it isn't lost in my body. I can't help but think the worst. I've decided to just get the thing removed and have my tubes tied. I like the fact that I don't have menstrual cycles but the pain in my back and legs are too much for me lately.
I found this site today ... I have been experiencing severe leg/joint pains. The Dr checked for rheumatoid arthritis - negative, checked me for peripheral artery disease - negative .. ceased taking my cholesterol meds - no change, diagnosed as having restless leg syndrome - no symptoms... no improvement after medication.
I gained 27 pounds after maintaining my weight for a year... Only 43 and feeling like I am 83. After I read some of the messages here, I made an appointment and had my Mirena IUD removed today!
I haven't experienced depression, but at my wits end as to the cause of the joint/muscle pain in my legs. I can only hope for improvement after having the IUD removed .. it can't get any worse at any rate.
My IUD has been in for 1 year now and I've been having leg pain for about 9 months now. It seems to start in my lower right hip area and go thru my thigh down to my knee. Have you had any changes in your situations since your IUD was removed?
I can't believe all these side effects! I thought I was going nuts. My joints have been aching like crazy! I have bad cramps in my right side that sometime double me over. I just thought, well im almost 30. Maybe its just that time in my life where I am going to feel bad. I have only had one baby... maybe she did this to me?!? I am just freaking out now. I want to have this thing removed now, and I have no insurance. I feel like friggin Mirena who claims to have this wonderful product should remove it now!!! UGGH!
