ashley is still impacted, but I was able to remove about a pound of the blockage.
also is the knee chest position the best for this? i've been using it because her anus stays open in that position which makes disimpaction easier.
also, catelyn has started soiling her clothes recently and I was wondering if this could be a side effect of the colonoscopy she recieved last month
although she appears to have good sphincter tone, and her anus is closed tight in either enema position
she is usually very retentive and goes 5-9 days without a bm
besidess the leakage, she won't go #2 without an enema to make her go
also the reason ashley became impacted is that the doctor had her on anti diahrea medicine to help with the soiling problem. because she has only 35% of normal sphincter function due to an injury when she was 2, and the cumulative effect of colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, manual disimpactions, and barium enemas.
The best position is whatever works for you and your daughter.
I doubt the colonoscopy is the cause of Catelyn soiling her clothes. Please do not let your daughters use enemas in order to have a bowel movement. (There are emotional issues here and I know you probably know this.) Figuring out the correct diet for them will take care of their problems. It all comes down to what they put in their mounth. I know this isn't easy. Plus they have a mind of their own...
They will heal, but this will take time. Are you familar with this product http://www.herbdoc.com/p24.asp I take his Formula #2.
Just like the body can become dependent on laxatives to do the bodily functions for the body, it can become become dependent on too many enemas. Too many enemas can wash out the natural mucus that protects the lining of the bowels and help stools move through the passage without harming the lining.
The body needs time to recover it's natural function. You can aide this by the right foods.
If you're not drinking enough, your colon steals water from the waste material and gives it to the body, causing the stools to be water deprived or hard. People eating high fiber diets actually increase their risk of constipation if they don't drink extra water along with fiber-rich foods, since fiber needs water to do its intestinal sweeping job. More fluids in your diet put more fluids in your bowels, lessening constipation.
The consistency and number of stools varies according to age and from baby to baby.
Make sure there is enough fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains in your child's diet. Make sure there is enough fluid intake, mix 1/4 juice to 3/4 water and let the child drink as much as they want.
Eating a few chunks of pineapple and papaya together as a small snack before eating or with meals will aide in digesting. Papaya and pineapple contains all the digestive and pancreatic enzymes the body needs.
Help the intestines to strengthen enough to take over and recover, this will also help the body push the waste through the intestines with a little help from you with a simple massage.
Place the tips of your fingers gently next to the belly button.
Massage gently in small circles working your way around the belly button as you massage, working outward in bigger circles each time until the intestines are massaged . Do not use enough pressure to be unconfortable for the child and, do not massage the bladder.
