Hi there all
I have absoloutely freezing cold hands and feet. I take ginkyo, ginger, other circulation herbs and often eat warming foods.
People make jokes that im 'dead' and others often recoil due to the temp.
Does this sound like anything you know or can anyone suggest treatment?
My thyroid was recently checked and was given the all clear.
Thankyou :)
i don't trust these thyroid tests. they are basically designed to tell you if something drastic is wrong. i would start taking lots of kelp, it revs up the thyroid and is one of nature's absolute superfoods. full of minerals and all kinds of good things. start with one, then work up to three teaspoons a day. use frontier brand, its MUCH better than the now brand. always take it with some lemon juice in water if possible.
also, try the alkalizing baths. i GUARANTEE you will be warm after this!! too warm most likely! it really cause lots of body heat, remember to take a nice long cold shower afterwards or you will start sweating and feel a bit woozy.
I agree with FF--and I would also add: virgin coconut oil. It raises the body temperature and boosts the metabolism, as well as lots of other lovely things. It's also an antiparasitic. It's clear that your body is storing its heat in the core--chances are 'constipation' is an issue, whether or not you believe yourself to be regular, it may be that too much energy is 'stuck' in that part of the body. The sitz baths as discussed by MH on the barefoot forum, really can and do change this tendency to cold extremities. I can attest to that. It sounds horrid at first to think of aiming cold water at the navel (but please read all about this first in the MH forum), but once you've soaked and got really hot, it feels easy--I've gone through the revulsion and the happy surprise. It's invigorating. It improves the function of the whole body...
other things you might consider: that you are eating the wrong way for your body type.
You might look into the Ask Andreas archives.
Oh--and about the kelp--it's true. It really is good! (+ Good for the inner furnace. ) As is the whole alkalizing drink a la Moreless.
once you've considered all these ideas, you might look into some sort of Qi Gong. ( and that would likely include emotional aspects, as I was just mentioning on the foot slapping thread--further down, with the Yuen Method.
But there are other Qi Gong classes that you can take locally, to learn just a few specific simple techniques --the goal should always be, that you can learn to take care of this yourself. I don't think it's a difficult 'case' to solve, though I appreciate you can literally go around in nothing but circles if you go the standard "test" route.
It's perfectly possible that a brief pulse analysis by a Chinese or Tibetan doctor ( which takes five minutes or so) can instantly tell you what to do--what needs correcting. You don't smoke, do you? That would be a definite no for someone with your circulation issues.
Well--Good oxygen (+ good breathing) to you! This is certainly part of the equation! I know how awful it can be to even live with yourself, when your hands are as cold as ice...mine often were, years ago.
one more thought about the cold feet--another thing that used to bother me, but not as much as the cold hands.
MH ( who some think quite radical, or even loopy )suggests going barefoot as much as possible. Also, walking in snow
( which is wonderful)--You will often find kids do this for fun, if their parents don't brainwash them into believing this is how you 'catch' colds. My son and a friend would as kids go out into the yard in winter after a big snowfall and go screaming around the place laughing and yelling "rampage!" until their feet and legs were bright red. I don't know where they got this from--but it was creative 'genius' , or so thought I. At the time we mothers would just stand inside and laugh with delight--and wish we weren't 'too old' to do that. Now, we're smarter! They never got sick from that, but rather, would be more well! And their circulation got a real boost. it is wrapping up, and contracting or 'tightening' (behaving protectively, in some manner, whether physically or emotionally) that more often causes one to 'catch' something.
I go barefoot now as much as I can--or in sandals-- and have for the last six years or so. Before that, I would do the opposite, and wear socks and more socks to try to warm up my feet--which always only made them colder (or "coddled", as MH puts it). Now I feel stuffy and aggravated if I have to wear socks too often...I can tell it weakens the system.
I sometimes put cayenne pepper in my socks/shoes. It isn't an "answer" but it warms them. Sometimes I mix it with a salve, and rub it in. It's pretty funny when you are out somewhere (shoe store) and opps, your feet are pink.
Cayanne comes in different heats, be careful. Always. Listen to your body. But sometimes you just need to be WARM. Sometimes I sleep with a hot water bottle at my feet. Hand rub briskly, think "energy ball" chi gong, whatever, that helps hands. Armpits are warm (lol)
My condition is getting better--stress and stuff "cools" me quickly. Also, jumping helps. Rebounding.
listen to all the good advice. And the answers are all around. best wishes. You could also visualize being warm. Right now I'm going to drink some ginger tea in honor of our quest for warmth. I think living fully is the answer, and I've shut down too long. But it is coming. Warmth from head to toe. Stretch--emotionally, physically, spirtually. I'm writing this for ME, really. Hope perhaps it helps.
peace and joy,
pj
