It's been a long time since I consulted the wisdom of this forum. I did a 9 day water fast a few years ago while my wife and children vacationed in the Philippines. It felt great but i've found it's much harder to do a complete water fast with family surrounding me eating all day.
Anyway, my question is this. Does anyone know if water fasting will help with Erectile Dysfunction ? I was informed that it is an issue of lack of blood flow to the penis. I figured since water fasting thins the blood somewhat....
I've never done a water fast but I can't imagine that it would help. ED can be complicated. If you look at how viagra and similar drugs work, it is by increasing l-arginine (and hence nitric oxide). Not through supplementation but by killing off a substance that kills off nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is involved with blood flow to the penis. I can't see how a water fast would effect this at all. I am deficient in l-arginine and am on a homeopathic to make my body increase production of it naturally. I am sure that there are other causes of ED too. Essentially you need to find the cause and treat it. A water fast seems like an overly general solution to me. If you were going to do one anyway then I guess you will find out soon enough.
i believe that it would help, the reason being that in a fasting state the body scourges on dead and diseased tissue.....the lack of blood flow to the penis is usually caused (i think) by semi-blocked arteries. while fasting this plaque that coats the artery walls will be eaten up and the blood should flow easier. i think you'll probably have to do a fairly extended fast or a period of shorter fasts to enable the body to do it's clean-up. i hope somer answers your question as she's the expert around here and i'm sure that she could add lots more to what i've just given you :)
about circulation, that is! ED is such a major problem in this country today, and I know it's connected to circulation problems, and circulation problems stem from many other problems...including issues with dehydration!
Please make sure you are also getting adequate WATER...PURE water...water that has NO fluoride or chloride in it. To guarantee that, it must be from a fresh, unpolluted well, or from distilled water, (check with company to ensure fluoride has not been "added" back into it)...
OR
from the filtration process called Reverse/Osmosis. I've seen one of those units in our local WalMart - where you bring your own gallon containers. Ours is filtered with the "reverse/osmosis" process, which takes out 95-96% of fluoride and chloride!
You should drink HALF your weight in ounces of water DAILY, and consume the equivalent of 1/4 teaspoon of good quality seasalt (I like Redmond's RealSalt, of which I find at my local health food store) per every quart of water your body needs to consume. No, you don't have to put the salt IN your water.
Also, be sure and check out the Iodine support forum, as over 90% of the world's population is iodine deficient! It's a "hot" forum, so you might want to start with the R, RN, and BSA posts, first!
Good luck to you! My 80-year-old dad only has me to talk to about health issues, and after being on iodine supplementation for approximately a month (he already drinks 1/2 his weight in ounces of water, and consumes realsalt, too) he actually got a morning erection. He was quite embarrassed telling me this, but he knew it was the detoxified iodine he was taking that did it because it was the "only new thing" he was doing that past month and he wanted me to know how it worked for him!
Edgar Cayce (who passed away in 1945) told us we needed to ensure eating only four things, of which our bodies could MAKE everything else: water, salt, soda*, and iodine!
*SODA has been translated to mean calcium carbonate...and most of us get PLENTY of calcium in our food! In fact, most of us get too much calcium; but enough iodine helps to balance everything out!
In 1991 I did my first 10-day water fast. The result was amazing. It halted/cured some arthritis that I had beginning in my shoulders and my erections became 'rock-hard'. It was exactly as Daniel Reid said in "The Tao of Health Sex and Longevity" - a gift from a new girlfriend.
I have practised water and juice fasting on a regular basis now since then. It has been proven to be much better than any other method for lowering blood pressure and fixing diabetes (and many other ailments).
Dr Alan Goldhamer has published his research in this area. See
