I stopped OP'ing on a regular basis....and my oral health issues escalated. Now my gums feel tingly and sore all the time. My tongue feels the exact same way.
I did buy refined sunflower oil from my local supermarket. I started brushing with baking soda and peroxide. I stopped drinking tap water (bought a Brita).
I included pics of my gums and teeth. As you can see, they're in bad shape.
I've been pulling 3-4 times a day, gargling with salt water...and occasionally mouthwash (big no-no). I think I'll go back to using coconut oil. Sunflower is ok...but I had better results with the EVCO.
I have not oil pulled consistently in a while. Although I do use baking soda and peroxide as my teeth cleaner. They look great. I have no "film" on them and do not wake up with "morning breath" UNLESS I eat garlic or onions for dinner. Then I can 'taste' it on my tongue. I am pleased to have changed my brushing routine, from learning about OP'g. I figure until I get back to it, I can, at least, gain advantages from the way I brush my teeth.
I am working towards doing OP'g again on a consistent basis but in this time, I do not.
Speaking of garlic, I love the stuff. But I always suffered from horrendous breath the next day. I have noticed that since OPing the problem isn't nearly as bad. I have even started swallowing cut up garlic cloves (because garlic is just so darn good for you) and I expected to stink to high heaven the next day, and was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't.
i wish i knew about OP decreasing and eliminating the smell of garlic before. i would have taken it more frequently when i was working with the public. lol
now i have an excuse to try it and see if it actually does work with no odor.
i have not missed a day since i started nearly 3 weeks ago. it seems to be a part of daily regimen. i think i would feel funny if i did not do it right when i wake up. my girlfriend uses her tongue scraper/cleaner first.
I think I could count on one hand the times I have not OPed in over a year. On the few occasions I missed it in the morning, I made up for it before dinner.
My husband used to have terrible breath from coffee, garlic, etc. After starting to cleanse he got rid of most of it, and OP was the icing. I don't ever have morning breath anymore. Too bad we are not younger, or we would appreciate making out in the a.m. without the trip to the loo first.
I stopped OP for about a week and resumed yesterday AM. I was getting symptoms and was not sure why. I had anemic like symptoms so I took iron, then B-12, and now copper. It was actually copper that I needed more of, and I bet the Methyl B-12 doesn't hurt me either, as I have a history of Hypochlorhydria (low HCL). I'm almost 56 and I have to pay attention to my B-12 levels. I eat sources of B-12 but it can be hard to absorb.
I'm looking forward to better sleep and improved moods from OPing again. My positive moods have kind of not been as bright as they were. I stayed positive but just haven't had that spark like I did but I'd bet it returns soon.
I didn't really need to stop OP and I don't think I will again. I just needed more copper. The less transit time that OP causes caused me to absorb even less Cu than I already was getting from foods and brought on symptoms.
If you don't already, you might want to drop your toothpaste for a tooth soap. Toothpastes have glycerin, which makes everything stick to your teeth, most have silica, which are abrasive to your teeth, and flouride, which is down right poison.
I have been using soap and oil pulling for a few weeks now, and my red gums are turning pink, and my teeth really feel clean. You might want to try it.
the body always seeks to cleanse itself if it can. oil pulling is just one of many cleansing things a person can do, and should do. the channels of normal elimination must be open and flowing freely. when what goes in overwhelms the capacity of the outflow, then storage and build up of toxins occurs. the body will eliminate any way it can. eruptions in the skin are one way. even a womans monthly blood flow can provide a relief valve for the toxins and the periods will get heavier and heavier.
stop putting it in and get the body to dump the stuff already stored. i have stopped op temporarily to monitor my Iodine intake and impact. my mouth has done well in the meantime. even though i had my body used to this form of elimination, it was not counting on that and i have no "buildup at the gates" as it were. imagine the problems in your mouth in other parts of the body that you cant see or readily detect. its happening, you can count on it.
Which is a really good point. Dental health has been linked to physical health (duh!) So if your mouth isn't doing so good, you can bet there are problems elsewhere.
there is a direct connection from one end to the other. mouth problems, in fact any skin problems we can see, are a direct reflection of internal health. heart disease has been directly linked to dental health and hygeine. ear wax is a sign of a liver which is backing up.
what surprises me the most is how adaptable the body is and how much abuse it can take and still function. this happens so much and so automatically, many people assume their dysfunctions and adaptations are normal.
I had a conversation with someone recently who said that she just "listens to her body" in terms of what she needs to eat/do. I thought about that and realized that sick bodies are bodies we can't "listen to." I thought of this especially around sugar addiction -- people who say they "need" carbs -- well, their sick bodies are telling them to provide sugar, they "listen" and eat or drink, and get sicker. (My body always used to "tell" me to drink alcohol, for instance -- never to a good end!)
Our bodies will endure so much poisoning, and over time the body's voice itself becomes sick, which manifests in all sorts of cravings, and which obscures the real signals it wants to tell. (Like, thirst. How many people are dehydrated and suffer incredibly for it, yet never drink a glass of water throughout the day?)
I think with enough cleansing over time, the body's real "voice" returns and it's OK to listen to it again. A lot of women hear the real voice emerge during pregnancy with thirst and with protein/heme iron cravings. But when sugar addiction, dehydration, etc. are present, you can't trust your body to tell you a damn thing.
this is correct. just like people who feel hunger are actually feeling the effects of too much eating, many times dehydrated people feel like they are hungry and habits and addictions get in the way of propper interpretation by the brain.
the fact is that most people are full of toxins, numbed to their effects, and misinterpret their corrupted state as normal, especially if they are not in too much pain or discomfort - yet. what i find strange is how the body will resist change from unhealthy habits to healthy ones, but acqiring the unhealthy ones seems easy, like a natural thing. what the mind believes is a big part of this.
