I had never heard of people having athletes foot for 10 years before I started my own reasearch 20 months ago. I now know many people including myself have been told by their doctor that they have an incurable fungal infection. This is unexceptable to me. I have spent thousands of dollars in the last 20 months since I contracted a stubborn form of jock itch off a portable toilet on a construction site in Atlanta. I have tried every over the counter product, most home remedies, and 2 systemic drugs. I gained much knowledge and wisdom when it comes to tinea infections. I must advise you seek your doctor's advice for your specific infection.
I am not selling anything and I do not stand to profit by my advice.
Wash all clothes and bedding in bleach, hydrogen peroxide, or boric acid.
I agree with the last post when it comes to diet. The roots of tinea infections feed on the sugar in your bloodstream. A low glycemic diet is important when fighting stubborn infections. You can find volumes of info about low glycemic diets at mendosa.com a site for diabetics. The worst offenders for blood sugar are potatoes, white bread, soda, table sugar(duh). I have been able to keep my infection dorment with diet alone. I eat protein, fat, and vegetables; I have lost 20 lbs and my high blood pressure has come down for the first time in 10 tears.
As a side note my blood pressure did not come down on a low fat diet. If you must drink alcohol you can drink hard alcohol with no effect to your blood sugar.
I also agree with the last post that fungal infections are inside and outside the body. Fungal infections can live in the skin and in the blood. I also think tinea can live in deep dermal layers of the skin just waiting for the chance to break out.
The main problem I have had is that when the ringworm bumps die they just spread to nearby areas and easily infect healthy skin. So I have continually had ringworm bumps on my buttocks and groin.
Of the OTC products the active ingredients I found most effective are miconazole and terbinafine. Be careful of lamasil sprays that contain tolnaftate, you want the lamisil spray with terbinafine. I found tolnaftate to be ineffective. The problem with using creams for jock itch is that when you put your pants on you will rub away most of the cream, I don't have time to stand around naked all day.
Of the herbal remedies I have tried, tea tree oil and manuka oil were both effective but did not cure my stubborn strain of tinea. Vinegar caused a major flare up an I discontinued use; it's possible that continued use of vinegar may yield results, but it was very painful and caused alot of scarring for me. I have also taken lots of garlic and oregano oil orally for several months but it did not cure my infection. I tried thyme oil and oregano oil topically and had some success, but it was very painful even when diluted with colloidal silver.
I have used Boric acid powder directly on the skin for many months. It is not that irritating to the skin and was very effective and very inexpensive compared to other treatments. Unfortunately it only kept the infection dormant and did not cure me.
Colloidal silver has probably been most effective and every time I had a major flare up (I've had 5 in 20 months), it was colloidal silver that made the difference. It is gentle on the skin. There is alot of controversy about colloidal silver on the web. There is a more expensive high tech colloidal silver made with a kind of gyro machine that has a grey color and brags about having smaller silver nano particles. I personally found the electrolysis "old style" colloidal/ionic silver to be more effective topically, it is clear in color and should be about 10-15 ppm. Just look for a company who uses constant current and has strict product control.
Tetrasil (silver oxide cream) is very effective and I would also recommend it for women with yeast infections. Again when I put on my pants most of the cream gets rubbed away and when spots died the just spread to new areas.
I was prescribed oral lamasil tablets for 6 weeks. My infection was gone in the 4th week and I finished the course. My tinea infection came back about 2 weeks after I finished the medication. Lamisil is still very expensive and unfortunately I could not afford another course. Systemic drugs can hurt your liver so your doctor will want to supervise your health.
I am currently on another much cheaper prescribed systemic drug called Griofulvin it is available in the generic Gris-peg ultramicrosize for better absorption. Take it with a fatty meal. Some forms of tinea may already be resistant to grisofulvin.
Topically I am now using a 1950's remedy I scoffed at many months ago. Clorox bleach. I use 4 parts colloidal silver and 1 part bleach in a small spray bottle. When using bleach the dying fungal bumps have still been able to spread to nearby areas. fungal infections can flare up when they are dying, even possibly retreat into your bloodstream and emerge someplace else. Don't ever drink bleach or hydrogen peroxide. Since I am broke, this is the cheapest fungal remedy. I am having some success.
The ringworm spots on my buttocks are dead and nearly gone. So the end of this incurable infection is in sight again. I hope to post my success in the coming weeks. Even if I do not succed this time, I am certain of my recovery. For every test in my life prayer has always been the tipping point in times of difficulty.
I have also decided, in addition to my own doctor's advice, to take Dr Jenine's advice at http://www.drjenine.com/antifungal.html
I have no affiliation with this site.
I found most of these antifungals and such at discount prices at swansonvitamins.com again I have no affiliation.
Standardized Oregano oil caps 75-85% Carvacrol(I can't afford P-73 at $50 an ounce)
Olive leaf extract caps
Capryllic acid caps
Apple cider vinegar caps
Garlic caps Oxy-powder (bowel cleanser)
Probiotics
Does anybody know the scientific basis for saying peanuts promote fungus? As I understand peanuts have a negligable effect on blood sugar. I just read that peanuts are one of these foods that people consider to be covered in molds.
My daughter had tinea of the scalp and had to take Griofulvin. It worked well. Just be aware of the side effects. The doctor really emphasized the dangers of this drug. My daughter luckily only had to take it for one month. She does have a scar on her scalp but she has not had any flare-ups. Good luck to you.
I had a very difficult skin yeast infection earlier this year that I had a lot of trouble getting rid of, and your post sounds so much like you are going through the same type of struggles I went through. Not even two rounds of Difulcan and six months of Nystatin treatment worked to totally get rid of it, although they did help. What really worked to kick the overgrowth of yeast out of my body was Humaworm. I can't speak more highly of it. After I took Humaworm in April, I've been totally yeast and fungus free ever since, much to my delight. Although Humaworm is mainly known as a an antiparasite remedy, it also has a lot of very effective antifungals in it which, in combination, really give difficult yeast and fungus a knock out punch. Anyone who has a serious fungal or yeast infection that they are having a really tough time getting rid of should seriously consider trying it.
Best of luck in your continued recovery, and please let us know how you are doing.
There is no such thing as incurable fungal infections!!!
There ARE many who get them back over and over until they learn the lessons about diet, food quality, and pH available for FREE at the ASK MORELESS FORUM here at Curezone.
I have tried all or most of the stuff mentioned above, and NONE of these solves the ROOT PROBNLEM. The limited diet made me sicker and sicker over the years, and trashed my immune system so that I was catching every bug that came along, one virus after another. MD kept testing me for HIV, but all tests were negative.
After a few months on the Ask Moreless protocol, no longer needed any of that stuff, or to avoid high quality carbs. Once I stabilized my pH by taking in adequate alkaline minerals, just DO NOT GET FUNGUS, YEAST. Do not seen to catch viruses anymore either!
I recently had my knee replaced and when I got home I had a rash on my knee. It has spread to many other parts of my body and I have since realized that it is ringworm. I have tried everything to get rid of it and it still remains. I am currently taking a generic Lamasil. It seems to be resistant to everything.
I just found this page while ordering medical supplies for my terrible skin infection of almost 3 years. I was searching for the efficacy of silver on fungal infections. My situation began several years ago; I can't even tell you how or when it began--only that it began upon moving into our newly-built home, which flooded during building and which I recently discovered was built on a former mushroom farm. Aside from the fact that I am at home all day, I was trying my hand at gardening, getting dirty and sweaty in the sun during the summers. I collected the mushrooms that grew in my yard for composting mostly with bare hands. Almost everything I planted has died of root-rot or developed fusarium, powdery mildew and other types of fungal issues. I also created a library in our new home and began spending time sitting on floors of antique shops, going through old volumes of my favorites to stock the shelves. So I have no idea what, where or how I developed this disease, that began on my face, has spread into my scalp, my sinuses, my hands, my bellybutton, and many other areas. It is candida, but is also likely mixed with God knows what else. It has eroded the whole left side of my face; which actually died, literally; last year and which has regrown and healed/scarred, but which is deep, extremely painful, and which no doctor seems to acknowledge. Lesions on my calf, in an obvious circle pattern, face, back, chest--have been designated as a psyche issue, with doctors documenting I have a compulsive picking disorder and needed therapy. I have photodocumented every phase. I am currently on Nystatin and Diflucan, but am stuffing my body with probiotics and have turned to the "Yeast Syndrome" diet. My face and body are scarred and deformed. The bumps or areas that simply peel are much more painful than they appear and go all the way through my skin (cheek into mouth, outside of nose to inside). I am terrified of what has colonized me and have just sent out mold samples from our home to a lab for ID. A mold inspector suspected spores in our bed and bath subfloors, so although there is no obvious mold and I have NO mold allergies, I swabbed the dust off the subfloors which quickly grew colonies on the agar in the petri dishes. I await the results, but know I may have a greatly mixed colonization in my body. I developed a pneumonia 3 years ago which lasted 3 months and did not respond to 21 days of antibiotics. 2 months after I "cured" it, I had a partial lung collapse and have frequent "attacks" of swelling, 'hives' (which do not respond to steroid creams), and night sweats which the local ERs have designated "anxiety attacks" and have sent me home without treatment. Massive doses of Benadryl have saved my life. I have been using Tea Tree oil on my lesions which has helped better than anything else, but which create scabs that take out chunks of skin, even though they are superficial. They either seep or bleed like crazy. The addition of a Nystatin cream has helped, but creates "rubber-band" type tissue that, if pulled, will "unzip" a previously closed area (usually a lump or swollen area) and aside from the gunk that spills out, is usually full of these cells that are in a chain-formation and look like the suc***s on a squid tentacle. They are always round or oval-shaped with a center hole or nucleus. They do not seem to die by any means; I've had little success removing them, as they are painfully attached to the tissue beneath and to each other. I've been told many dismissive things by doctors about them, but mostly "don't touch anything", scolding me for scratching or removing a scab (which I was told to do if it was sticking up and which I do with a sterile tweezers or cuticle nipper, per their advice). I have failed to convince any doctor that it is a bad fungal infection--most likely systemic. Aside from thrush and terrible yeast infection, my lesions have all of the signs of fungal infection--especially the fact that the bumps and lesions occur in my scalp and I had a large painful cyst at my skull base which is now full of painful bumps which go down my neck. There's too much to write, but I think you all get the idea. I need some serious help. I was recently found to have a brain tumor, which--only per the MRI image--was designated to be a lipoma, or fatty benign tumor which "is nothing to worry about" and no further clinical correlation was suggested. I know this sounds crazy but it has the same characteristics of my lesions and, as I actually was the one who brought it to their attention after looking at my scan, and they said "oh, yeah, there IS something there", I have a terrible reason to worry. I suppose this is more venting than anything, but I'll say this--my new diet and the probiotics have made a difference. I know they say when you experience fungal/yeast die-off, you can feel pretty rotten, which I do, but I'm holding out that it's just the infection fighting back. I am also taking the enzyme formulas to help the rotten feeling of "die-off" so I'm thinking I could be feeling a lot worse. It seems to be doing SOMEthing (I hope). I have also begun taking Colostrum, recommended by my hippy friend in NM who is pretty expert at herbal remedies. I believe that is also helping my immune system. I have begun taking colloidal silver orally, but need much more advice on topical treatments and other supplements to help me through this. Sorry this is so long. I'm in pain, worried about my lungs, brain, skin, gut--and my doctor is saying this isn't systemic or I'd be much more ill. God help me.
I don't know if you ever got any help with this, but you have my prayers. I too think I have a systemic fungal infection and also have heard nothing but NO from doctors for even TESTING or diagnosing for it. They did a blood test at my request and very expensive to my pocketbook which had all kinds of elevated levels of aspergillosis, claudisporum (sp?) and a few others I recognized as the "TOXIC" kind of mold, but they told me that means nothing and they didn't think it was worth following up.
Then why did they let me pay for the tests in the first place??!!!
It is very scary act like anything to do with mold is something to be denied, ignored, swept under the rug, and where do you go from there?
Like you, I have been seeking my own solutions online, which have been haphazard, and without any clear knowledge of which ones work, which combinations, how much, how long, and, just plain "HOW?" -- it is really mind-numbingly confusing.
I am scared. But your case is so much worse I wish you could find a doctor who could help you correctly. I think your home is the first culprit, but after you are sickened, everything else out there that doesn't make EVERYONE sick will still make YOU sick.
I want to be CURED. I want to be NORMAL AGAIN. Maybe that is too much to ask; maybe all I can do is use a lot of self-discipline and get BETTER, and keep this stuff from progressing.
I sure would like to hear from someone out there with a fungal infection of the skin who found a solution. Of course the skin symptoms do not negate the infection being other areas as well, I think it has to be systemic if it is on the skin in more than one area, even if it is not always APPARENT in more than one area.
I just searched under ringworm and found a bacterial infection that sounded like it could be both of your infections, especially the initial person. It is called cellulitis (not to be confused with 'cellulite'). There was information on it on the medline encyclopedia and I think it has to be treated with a specific antibiotic. Although it only produces large red patches with a tight skin, lymph glands can be infected and it can result in sepsis as well as a collapsed lung. Peripheral vascular problems are also indicated. I think the other private messages were incorrect, as I think this may be the thing, it can be caught through the feet if there are cracks in your feet. I think this may be a solution even though one can also have candida and or ringworm fungal infection. Hope this helps you both!!
Hi I wrote about this two emails down but I wanted to make sure you got the message. I have just found a bacterial infection that can be entered through the feet, and causes havoc much like you have described. It is called CELLULITIS (not the fat cellulite) which is like a disease of the cells and it causes red patches of skin as well as sepsis and swollen lymph glands and can also lead to pneumonia. There is a good antibiotic for it, so I would definitely try that, and maybe do a search for it, which antibiotics are good. I think it definitely sounds like your problem. What are your doctors thinking? I think I should have studied medicine.
I think you could have a bad case of the bacterial disease cellulitis, which causes red lumpy patches of skin and can also be pitted or with pustules. Obviously this is different to cellulite, there are specific antibiotics available although colloidal silver also helps. It is a very serious disease which can result in death, so maybe a dermatologist is a good idea. Another possibility of bacteria causing bad acne is the bacteria from a bad tooth infection, for which you also need an antibiotic. Maybe you can check on the net for the right antibiotic.
Hi, just wanted to make sure that you got this message. Let me or us know if it made a difference to you!! What you definitely have is a bacterial disease caught through the feet from soil that is known as cellulitis, (different to cellulite). It is extremely dangerous and has probably caused all the havoc that you have gone through and you need a specific antibiotic for this one. It forms lumpy red patches on the skin which can be quite large and get pus in them, as well as also develop cysts and that on top of that, and it can form all over the body. It was probably also responsible for your pneumonia. there are pictures on the net, A dermatologist or a good doctor will probably give you the right medication. Best of luck.
