There is something very troubling occuring on Curezone. As Uniquity pointed out earlier here, pharma ads are now appearing on Curezone.
Curezone started out as a non commercial site. Now, not only are commercial forums mixed with regular Support Forums (not yet effectively dealt with), but we are now seeing Pharma ads being placed at the bottom of many of our forums. This is being done by the global elite owned search engine "Google" that curezone is currently in bed with.
I have previously warned about our affiliation with this search engine, which is a useless engine for onsite searches anyway.
I did some screen captures to demonstrate what is occuring. *note* ... sometimes these kinds of ads appear and at other times they do not. It's random.
Ad 1 was found in the Asthma support forum, and is for athsma medication.
The link on the ad leads to http://www.asmanex.com
Ad 2 was found in the Depression support forum and is an ad for Ambien. The ad links to http://www.AmbienCR.com
Ad 3 was found in the hypothyroidism forum and is an ad for Thyroid Cancer Diagnosis. The ad links to http://www.chemotherapy.com
Ad 4 was found in the Contraception support forum and is an ad for a chemical abortion pill. The ad is for eMorningAferPill.com and links to http://www.emorningafterpill.com
Ad 5 was found in the Cholesterol support forum and is an ad for Liptor. The ad links to http://www.lipitor.com
This is but a small sampling of what is now occuring on "cure"zone.
"Cure"Zone...whose trademarked byline is 'Educating INSTEAD of Medicating'.
The issue of not having decent search capability has always been a MAJOR shortcoming of Curezone, especially in this day & age of technology where functional search engines to choose from ABOUND (not to mention being extremely detrimental to the health/knowledge of those that seriously need to search, find and compare varying points of view for their health and education).
The questions that immediately comes foremost to my mind is why the Webmaster would want to limit people's ability to search the site for information and why -- by using an inferior search tool that is a KNOWN to be part & parcel with the global elite that places Big Pharm ads on the site that utilizes it (AND Google keeps a record of every search made using Google, along with the IP address of the person that did the search).
That's right folks, whenever you do a Google search, Google keeps a database that includes who you are and what you searched for! I haven't had time yet to research whether that applies to the various sites that use their search engine like Curezone, but if it does, then everytime one does a Curezone search, it's recorded in Google's database.
I, for one, sincerely hope the Webmaster will make the issue of "Educating instead of Medicating" more than just empty words & a catchy phrase. I can't see any reason for commercialism on a site that claims education to be it's sole aim.
And each time something such as this is mentioned, those who express concern are waved aside as if they are either paranoid or delusional...
Anyone who takes a moment to look around this site will see adverts for, and affiliations with, companies who consistently stab natural healing/living in the face. (Not to mention google - one of, if not THE largest human-tracking device currently in operation.) What is worse is that those seemingly "in charge" of this site (or, perhaps more accurately, those we are lead to believe are behind this site) care not one jot.
As I alluded to in a previous post: PAYROLL! Morals quickly fall by the wayside when faced with a mountain of gold.
(And as an aside: The Barefoot Herbalist advertises alongside these pill-promoting companies. Interesting, I believe...)
My deepest respect to you, Lapis - a moderator who actually DOES something!
Curezone is becoming more and more commercial!! I used to be a fairly regular poster here, but not recently, because the behavior of certain mods and the Webmaster seems to lean toward the globalists agenda.
Yes indeed, "Cure"zone is supposed to be about education, as unyquity reminds us!!!! Truth and integrity have lost out to pharma ads and commercial forums!!! This was to be an oasis from all that, where people could come to hear about personal experiences, with no agenda of selling, just sharing and helping one another. Newcomers especially, unwittingly come upon some of these "Ask ____" forums and get steered to buying products from the gurus that are hawking their products.
This has the potential to be an amazing site, with a great format to help many, many people. The format is one of a kind on the internet to my knowledge. So sad that this kind of sh** turns it into a 3-ring circus, between the drama, the commercialism and now the PHARMA!!! "Cure"???? or greed and agenda.......
I believe this is the biggest crime of all, or certainly the greatest symptom of the crime: Stellar members of CureZone feeling excluded and forced into exile by, as you said, the behaviour of certain individuals and the current direction of the site.
Personally, I used to smile when I woke in the morning to see that you had posted a blog entry. Same too with 9thbody's yoga blog, and indeed many others who seem to have vanished...

Ditto ditto ditto Ms Daizy! My feelings exactly, I feel this place was hyjacked long ago and we are finally seeing the effects! I find particular mods who flaunt the insignificant and down play the important issues telling members they have too much time on there hands and to get a life! And the mods in aggreement who always back her up! This has been going on for much longer then those whose main interest is to promote thier own ego and ignore the core problems ! I have in the past been attacked and booted for fighting with med trolls and told I was disruptive many times for standing up to these people. I see this as the outcome of those who promote curezone as cuddlyzone and ignore the fires around them! Now they complain because the house is burning down and yet they still use this issue to whine and belittle other members! This is a much thier fault as anyones they all deserve each other and the stew pot they find themselves in!
Oh I know I know......sigh..... it's inevitable that this would happen to a potentially very powerful vehicle for getting truth out there. I realized just yesterday just how many hits this place gets every day. You just know the powers that be will be monitoring every step of the way....
I agree completely with Lapis, Daizy, Uny,
and Lee. I've seen and smelled this day coming for a LONG time. I'm deeply saddened.
Everything comes to an end, and CZ is no
exception. Impermanence is the only rule in
Life.
I think it's time for the dozens of
compassionate and caring regulars on CZ --
and I won't list names, because you know who
you are -- to find or create a neighborhood-
type health forum.
It should be a forum where the likes of Barefoot and 2tuff are never given a voice.
It should be a forum with 20 or 30 individual
forums within it, instead of 800.
It should be a forum with a clean, easy-to-
understand home page, instead of the galloping
chaos that prevails now at CZ.
It should be a forum in which the Webmaster
shows empathy and warmth for his best
and brightest contributors.
It should be a forum where you will be proud
to direct your friends and acquaintances. I've
been embarrassed to send anyone to CZ for the
last year or so, in fear that they'll click
on Barefoot's forum, and read some lunacy
such as "Vegetables are nutritionally-dead,
and worthless to eat." Or maybe they'll see the "Alien Abductions" forum, or some other
crazy-fringe forum near the top of the list,
and wonder why, in the name of God, I ever
sent them to such a place.
I told Lapis and Ami that I've had the nagging
feeling for almost a year, that I was going
to log-in to CZ one of these mornings, and
find that the site had been sold to Merck
or Pfizer.
The Webmaster has been AWOL for some time.
If and when he returns, I expect this letter
to be deleted. And I wouldn't be surprised
to see my CZ website disappear. Big Pharma
wouldn't want Owen's health advice on a site
they were using to sell dangerous drugs.
Some of you know how to reach me. If you know
of a small health forum where kindness
and compassion are the key-words, please let
me know.
I've enjoyed all the wonderful moments we've
had together on CZ. Thanks to all of you for
being such good friends to me.
Like many others, I have been mourning the loss of the "old" Curezone for sometime now. The whole site has become so big, trying to cater to every opinion and point of view. There are many forums I have never visited, many I looked over once or twice and never went back.
I do believe the Webmaster has done all he could to make the site be everything people wanted, but in doing so it has become so large and unwieldy that has lost the appeal that brought so many here. I'm sure the added features and bandwidth have made the site so expensive to run that Spirit had to compromise and utilize commercial sponsorship to pay the bills. However, I agree that by using a search engine that plants ads for the very pharmaceuticals many of us came here to avoid has defeated the purpose and mission statement of Curezone.
I would like to see the number of forums reduced by at least half. Forums that have been inactive for more than three months should be eliminated. Personally, I would like to see at least 90% of the Debate Forums eliminated, they serve little purpose in the search for health. I would like to see forums where products are actively promoted and sold be separated from the non-commercial Support Forums , and perhaps the owners should be charged a fee for being allowed to sell their merchandise on Curezone. I would do away with the Google search engine and all their ads. Surely there is an alternative to Google that will respect the integrity and philosophy of Curezone.
Like Owen, I rarely recommend Curezone to people newly coming to Natural Health anymore. While there is still a whole lot of excellent information, there is also a lot of things written that may do more harm than good. I find people like Barefoot potentially dangerous, but also realize there are people who believe he is some kind of guru/prophet. Others swear by Moreless and his theories; but its a good thing my doctor is not a member of Curezone. His opinion of Moreless and what he claims to be scientific truth would probably get him banned.
I realize that at this point there will be no easy answers, but I am saddened by the direction Curezone has gone. In some ways I feel like I have lost an old and trusted friend.
Hmmm... I see every post is getting a negative vote. Somebody out there likes the Pharma ads. Now, I guess I'll get two negatives, one from the Pharma lover and one from the stalker who has made a mission of casting negative votes for every post I make.
There are a few of us who are so very lucky to be tracked all over CureZone by certain individuals who vote negatively regardless of the content of the posts.
Instead of forming and expressing a conflicting opinion, the clandestine conspirators register an anonymous negative vote and return to lurking. Voting is largely a popularity contest, and as a consequence is almost entirely irrelevant.
The beauty of it is that you continue to read and post!
Somebody thinks your posts are important enough to follow. That's sort of a back-handed compliment, isn't it?
Hm-m-m... Maybe a person could switch to a new computer, and re-register under a different 'handle'; then post merrily away as a new person.
I agree that the votes are just a 'popularity contest' and not worth much. Even the number of 'clicks', or views, of a particular post mean little because the poster has to click on it to edit and to see how many folks have read it (or, at least, looked).
None of this has anything to do with well-being, does it?
"Hm-m-m... Maybe a person could switch to a new computer, and re-register under a different 'handle'; then post merrily away as a new person."
A person need not even change computer! He or she can simply "log out" and then "log in" again, this time as an entirely different user.
I believe all that is required is an email address to register an account... If one person has ten email addresses, for instance, then it is clearly possible for them to post under ten different CureZone identities. Plus, if they were to post under each CureZone moniker and each anonymous number, then all of a sudden they have twenty identities!
I've often wondered how I'd put my husband on the CureZone, on this same machine; or post from my sis-in-law's house.
But, hubby got his own machine, and relies on me to tell him what I read (or print it out); and sis-in-law won't even THINK about conversations on the net...except to her kids. No way I'm going to attract anything extra to her computer...she'd have a cat-fit.
(Hubby got me some interesting ads by playing some solitaire here. The best way to zap lots of things is to not buy. Like telephone calls to invest, get rid of them by saying straight out that you are poor. It helps if it is true, too. Grin.)
Just think how a poster could influence the CureZone if they had twenty identities!
And think of all the hours they'd have to put in; and all the styles they'd have to cultivate!
Nah...everyone would know me by my three little dots. He-he-he.
And, oh, the guilt!
Still, it would drive the nay-sayers nuts, wouldn't it?!
You've tickled my fancy, CF. Thanks. It's good to smile.
The best thing I ever did concerning internet searching was to dump internet explorer and load Mozilla FireFox. It has so many features you can add. You can customize it so that you cannot pick up debris off the internet and no site can runs scripts on your computer unless you allow it.
I highly recommend Firefox for more controlled and safer surfing.
On another bulletin board, a computer whiz suggests getting rid of internet explorer, too.
I've been stalling because of the 'learning curve'. Any kind of an instructor I hire has to sit at my elbow for a few hours, while I practice any new step, repeatedly. ...And, I always got high marks in school!
We've never heard such a speaker, before or since. He's an award-winning genius in speaking. And, he writes.
His subject, at that lecture, was Mining the Internet. He estimates that Google covers about 10% of the information out there. And, he gives hundreds of his favorite sites for researching many different subjects.
Get yourself to any of Garrett's lectures. They're life-changing.
