My BM's are always VERY hard and EXTREMELY painful. What is the best, natural, homemade enema to use to soften the stools and make it more comfortable?
Saline or olive oil is the way to go. I don't think either of those should be used regularly. A flax seed (linseed) tea enema has soothing effects, but the real key with enemas is contact time. The longer the water is in there the softer your poop will be. Try holding in an enema for 10-15 minutes. Go on your back or stomach immediately after insertion to make it easier to hold in.
coffee enemas are probably not as gentle, coffee is a mild irritant.
If you want to try something other than a homemade enema, I would suggest the Oxypowder cleanse which is very simple and I *promise* you will not have hard painful stools. I used to have those as well and I am on the cleanse now. I've read a TON of great stuff about it and so far so good for me. Good luck!
I thought about trying it, but I'm scared. I feel like I have so much built up stuff in there that it will only get to the upper part of the intestine/colon and the rest will remain hard and I will thus be in a lot of pain.
I think the Oxypowder is gentler than laxative teas like Smooth Move or a Salt Water Flush. Smooth Move cramped me up pretty bad. With OxyPowder you can adjust your dose... but for me it didn't cause cramping or pain. Instead of cramping you feel...kind of like air bubbles in your tummy - but not like painful gas. It's different - hard to explain but not painful. I have a friend with IBS and major problems with all kinds of perscriptions and nothing works for more than a few weeks - docs have not been able to help and the poor gal found OxyPowder and it's the only thing that keeps her from super-bloating. I think it's worth a try. Good luck in finding what helps you.
Plain warm water. Take the enema slowly and retain it for as long as possible. Massage the water around the colon to distribute it and allow it to be absorbed.
If you are impacted - a large fecal mass in the rectum -- that won't work.
The best enema for your condition is a retention “hot” oil enema. You can use olive oil or mineral oil or any good edible oil. Heat one cup of it to 103 F. degrees and inject it into your rectum. Retain it for at least 1 hour, expel it, then take a 2 quarts soapsuds enema to clean out the rest of the feces and the oil residue.
The Greek physician Galen (born about 129 AD, died about 210 AD) was probably the most influential writer of all time on medical subjects. Galen was a promoter of cleansing enemas for health, and for hard stools he recommended olive oil enemas.
1,800 years, later modern medicine has not discovered or invented a more efficient or effective method to soften hard stools than pure natural olive oil.
The easiest way to use it is warmed to a few degrees above body temperature with one or two fills from an adult enema bulb syringe and retained for at least an hour while lying down if possible. This may not provide a BM on it's own, but with the stool now softened, a follow up 2 to 4 pint salt solution enema should produce a much more comfortable movement.
Mazzy:
I just posted this on another thread in this forum. I'm hoping this will help you. But it's only the first lesson. More to come if you like what you've read.
