Thanks for your email. We have not changed the 73% Dark Chocolate.
Everything that is in a product will appear on the ingredients panel.
We do not allow the use of preservatives in our food.
Our raw almonds are pasteurized and they are not heated above 115
degrees and food is still considered live and active if not heated above
120 degrees. It is industry standard that raw almonds be pasteurized and
this has been the case for a number of years now since the problem with
salmonella and raw almonds occurred. If you are after non-pasteurized
almonds, look for our Valencia Almonds (as they are non-California
grown) or head to your local farmer's markets and the like, as all raw
almonds sold packaged in stores are pasteurized if grown in California.
Any item not labeled organic may have had pesticides used on them.
Is he saying "not heated past 120 degrees, just irradiated? " and "still considered live" because that is the legal definition out in CA where they are nuking the almonds now?
Maybe they should nuke all of their chickens and see how "alive" they still are . . . .
Irradiated fruits and vegetables benefit the packer and grocer, not the farmer or consumer. The consumer receives an inferior product that appears fresh, but has depleted vitamins and enzymes.
Apparently when Edison saw what the fluoroscope did to those exposed to it he dropped the thing and refused to EVER be x-rayed again. That is stating something...
"The fluoroscope he developed became the standard for medical X-ray examinations. Nevertheless, Edison dropped X-ray research around 1903 after the death of Clarence Madison Dally, one of his glassblowers. Dally had a habit of testing X-ray tubes on his hands, and acquired a cancer in them so tenacious that both arms were amputated in a futile attempt to save his life."
They were marketed as being a boon to health; better fitting shoes! Any advertisement that proclaims "healthy" or "health benefit" should be viewed with a big dose of skepticism. Who's health are they referring too? Ours or their bank accounts?
A question needs to be asked here... if we would not want to be irradiated, why on earth would we want to eat foods that have been?
it's sorta funny how rich people don't mind their food being tainted. but, i guess they are too busy being rich to worry about things like food. besides, they might find out that one of their own corporations is poisoning everyone.
I wanted to let you know that we learned today that the Almond Board has asked USDA to delay implementation of the pasteurization rule until March, 2008. It is very likely that USDA will approve the request. I wish I could say that this is a result of our efforts but it appears, from the direct reports we have, to be due to problems getting all of the treatment equipment in place for the almond crop.
In any event, this is good news and it also means that we have more time to get our campaign cranked up on this issue. I now expect that we will issue a news release by the end of next week on the broad set of problems that we identified during our conference call last Friday.
While the delay in the processing mandate is certainly not a state secret, it would be nice if the news release that we issue next week breaks the news – if it hasn't been published by then. That would make one more hook for reporters to pick up on the story. So, if possible, please don't go out of your way to call your local reporter with this tip.
We are pulling together a lot of the pieces we talked about for a public action plan during our phone conference (action alert, form letters, congressional contacts, fact sheet, new website, etc.) and much of that will also be set-up, I hope, next week. It's an ambitious amount of work. Stay tuned and please stay in touch with any other news that you hear.
Yes I think this is true - at least I know that they were definitely stating on their spice labels, the last time I looked, that they are non-irradiated herbs - I supposed they could have changed their policy since then since I have learned to trust this about them and haven't checked lately. I do know that laws about labeling and such have changed recently so that foods that are labeled organic need only have some organic ingredients to allow that kind of labeling.
We are really trying to grow and gather more of our own fruits, vegetables and herbs so that we can relly know that what we are getting is really organic and pure. We do have a Whole Foods market right down the street so we are lucky that way - one great hing iss that they don't sell so much pre-packeged produce....
Ok, have you decided to redefine the cutoff heating temperature where live enzymes begin to die off?
The last time I checked, it was "110 deg", which is why just about every dehydrator on the market only goes up to 105 deg.
If Trader Joes is heating the almonds to 115 deg, they've most likely had their enzymes destroyed, and in essence are not much better (if at all) than roasted almonds.
