I was going to try mixing OOO in with my VCO for a cold/flu I'm having, but was talked out of it by the guy at the health food store and got capsules instead. He said Oregano is very strong tasting and would be hard to take more than a drop or two. I notice most OOO comes in a olive oil base anyway, so I'm wondering how Oregano + Olive Oil would affect the taste of Flax or Coconut oil. How tolerable was the taste?
Great, love health food store employees sometimes.
Taking OO internally is fine, but you want it to get straight to your gums. No, it's not the most pleasant tasting stuff, and it is very strong, but you only put a drop of it in the oil you pull with.
Coconut oil is challenging because if it's not melted, then the OO does not mix in and you may end up taking a straight-on dose of the stuff. You have to have your oil liquid in order to do the OO....
You need the pure stuff. Get it on the internet. I get mine from Mountain Rose Herbs, but there are many sources. One small bottle will last a long long time.
Do it for a couple of weeks, and then stop for awhile. Consider it like a broad-spectrum anti-biotic...which of course you wouldn't take continuously...
Good info Molly - thanks. Since I posted my cold/flu has moved into the lungs big time, and this was while taking twice the number of recommended OO capsules. I've upped the dose again today and at least for now, maybe I'll try pouring the contents of a couple capsules into a flax seed oil pull. Somehow I imagine the taste of oregano mixing better with flax than coconut anyway.
I've had respiratory problems since kindergarten and have taken a mountain of antibiotics in my lifetime. If I don't take the antibiotics when I get bronchitis, it turns into pnemonia 100% of the time. This time around I'm committed to quashing it without antibiotics. I also bought some coliadal (SP?) silver (never tried before) as back up in case I don't get anywhere with the OO. But in the mean time I'll try capsules, pulling , snorting the stuff, whatever it takes until I smell like a walking Italian Deli. Hope it works.
Be sure to post your results. My colds/flu/detoxing always seems to end up in my lungs. Well, it probably doesn't end up there but it sure stirs up stuff in there. If there's a way to lessen that, I'd be so grateful!!
I've been taking oregano oil capsules for 2 days with absolutely no effect. In fact my lungs were filling up so fast I was ready to throw in the towel and get some antibiotics from my doctor. I went to Wild Oats and found out that the oregano oil I was taking was about 1/15th as strong as I needed. So I bought a better brand and took several rounds of much higher dosages yesterday.
Still, things were getting so bad that I couldn't wait around for it to work. I also bought a spray bottle of colloidal silver that out of desperation I sprayed and inhaled directly into my lungs. I felt some instant relief when breathing in the CS, so much so that I absent mindedly took about 4 sprays when I meant to start with one. But despite the relief, I really started feeling weird afterwards including a miserable headache (and I'm not headache prone).
Had another miserable night trying to fall asleep, but first thing this morning started bringing up all kinds of phlem from my lungs. This was impressive since it usually takes 3-4 days of being on super potent antibiotics before this starts to happen. Now a few hours later, I feel far far better like I've turned the corner (the kind of feeling I usually get after a week or two of antibiotics). I've gotten bronchitis or pnemonia or both a couple times a year almost all my life - so I'm WAY to familiar with the usual healing process with antibiotics.
I would probably be inclined to attribute it to the CS more than the oregano. HOWEVER, my girlfriend, (unlike me) gets over just about anything in a day or two at the most. However she'd already had this a week and was still in as bad a shape as I was. She refuses ANY kind of medicine, even natural supplements. So I was surprised when she actually took the new more potent oregano caps I'd just bought. About 3 hours later, she declared she was over it after being bed ridden all day and for much of the week. This morning she also brought up lots of phlem and has been working in the yard in near 100 degree heat all day. Since she didn't take any CS maybe it WAS the oregano - or maybe it had nothing to do with it. But the improvement was amazingly fast..
Sorry for writing War and Peace on this, but the upshot is that somewhere between the Oil of Oregano and Colloidal Silver, I seem to be getting better results than I usually do with antibiotics. So, though it's inconclusive, I'm very encouraged so far. Not only would I love to get off antibiotics, I'd love to get off the doctors billing treadmill every time I get this.
Usual treadmill:
1) call for an appointment with DR (usually wait at least a day)
2) Sit for an hour in the waiting room for the priviledge of meeting his lordship in person and reminding him of what antibiotic I've been taking for the last 20 years.
3) I end up paying him $60-$80 for 5 minutes of his time and an hour of mine.
4) I take this precious and hard won signature to the pharmacy for an unusually potent antiobiotic that ends up cost about $80 after insurance.
5) A week later I start feeling better, and another week (and $160) later, I feel pretty much back to normal.
If this works out as its seeming to, I may cut the recovery time in half, have no more hassles with doctors and pharmacies, and be sick another five times for a total cost of around $25. Not to mention finally getting off all the strong antibiotics. I'll update this once I'm better to see if it ends up working out as well as it's looking now. If so, that would be very cool.
And, in a nutshell, that is what alternative health is all about, eh? I was shocked the first time I cured something through alternative means. And this was a big thing...I had costochondritis (inflammation of the rib cartiledge)...very very painful, and I was going on 4 years of that pain. I was unable to physically function. It was a Liver Flush that started me on my journey. And after a few liver flushes, my pain went away. I'd been on prescription pain killers for years.
I was probably one of the lucky ones, having such a dramatic and quick effect from an alternative therapy, but after I started, I never looked back. It's hard to break the cycle after so many years of allopathic medicine. I often wonder, as dedicated as I am, what would actually send me running back to Dr's? There is no doubt, that after all the drugs invented, that antibiotics were the best thing that came out of Pharma....and we all know how bad they are for us, but if it's truly the only thing that will help, then I'm glad they are around. You are lucky, because I was not able to cure a chest infections naturally that I had in the last 2 years, BUT, the cool thing is I have hardly been sick since doing all this cleansing, and I used to get sick lots.
I make my own CS. I always have a jar around. I even bathe in it. Trapper told me about it originally, and I think it is amazing stuff.
I hope this turns out well for you. Now you can get yourself as healthy as possible and fight any potential infections in your future.
Keep up the Oil Pulling, and I would get some good, pure Oregano Oil and use this on and off. As we said, it's like a natural broad-spectrum antibiotic, so care must be taken in using it too much.
I don't know how many other things you have been doing? There is so much out there to help build up your immunities. Key to the end-game.
Ouch! Inflammation of the rib cartiledge, I can't imagine how painful that must be. And liver flushing took care of it?
Actually my liver is one last thing I need to address. Since having a mini-stroke about three years ago, I've done Colon Cleanses , now OPing, quit meat, smoking, alcohol, fastfoods, cut way down on sugar, supplement with superfoods like Goji, Chlorella, gotten steadier with my fitness routines etc. I'm sure this has all helped my liver quite a bit, but right after the stroke blood tests showed my liver was in pretty bad shape and I haven't tested it since.
I had such great results with the colon cleanses that I intended to continue on to the liver flush. But after reading up on it more with all the reports of pain, nausea, etc and peoples general confusion over the protocol, I guess I chickened out. Especially scary knowing mine was weak to begin with. Is there a document you could point me to that shows the simplest and best way for a novice to do their first liver flush?
Also it looks like you haven't found OOO or CS to be an effective substitue for antibiotics? I'm feeling much better, but I'm not over this thing yet. BTW, I pulled with flax oil mixed in the liquid from 3 capsules of the OOO. The taste wasn't bad at all. I don't know if it helped my bronchitis, but I'll bet it's a fantastic preventative for gum diseases at the very least.
It's funny how we've all been taught to be utterly helpless about our health. Every new study seems to contradict the one before it, and doctors take years of med school, conferences, and esoteric medical journals to just scratch the surface of a specialty subset of healthcare knowledge. So how can the layman expect to know ANYTHING about attending to his/her health? Impossible, right?
In fact I'm sure the mainstream media intentionally publicizes conflicting health studies just to keep the consumer feeling confused, helpless, and completely submissive to the conventional healthcare industry for even the most basic healthcare concerns. Heck, we're told to not start a new exercize program or diet, drink herbal tea or gargle in our underwear without "talking to our doctor" first.
Molly, keep doing what you're doing to educate around here! People are realizing that the healthcare industry is not on their side, and they can take control of their health to an extent they could never imagine before. As you say, it's a great feeling when you first make that realization.
I think that the OO and the CS are fantastic if you get the infection early on. If it starts raging, I'm afraid I'd head for the antibiotics too. There are too many things that can happen if an infection takes over. The key to this is building up the immunity so you don't get the infection to begin with...that is what this is all about..Immunity. Cleaning your body so that it can fight the good fight, not so that it is continuously repairing too many things at once. That makes such perfect sense.
Don't be daunted by all the confusion on the Liver Flush forum. There is so much high drama there. The basic liver flush of Epsom Salts , Olive Oil and Grapefruit juice (nothing else) is all you need. I had a fatty liver when I started that protocol, and I really concentrated on the liver when I started this whole business. The liver is one of the most important organs to take care of, and thank goodness it is so regenerative. So I researched everything I could find about how to help it. I take L-Carnitine everyday, liver flush as often as I have time and also take Milk Thistle on and off. If you google L-Carnitine you will find tons of info out there. I read somewhere that they actually give concentrated L-Carnitine in IV to people with liver failure...can't remember where I read it though. Here is an allopathic site that has a ton of info on it. While they say that it should be used as a ADJUNCT to pharmaceuticals, it's still a very telling list of uses:
Because of our years of being spoon fed fear by the medical community most of us have to be brave to forge ahead and give all of these alternative modalities a chance. Curezone has so much information about so many things it's very hard to glean the right info. I started by organ, and then goggled the heck out of something that rang true. I did hours and hours of research on just one thing, only to go onto another thing. I'd say I spent the first year, at the computer for hours a day, until I got to my main protocol now. It was a second job for me. And the good thing that came out of it? Now I get it, and IT is:
Cleanse the body
Feed the body
Exercise the body
So simple...but cleansing is key.
Hang in there Larry. And by the way, you are welcome. The one thing I have to give back is my experiences with all of this stuff.
Hi Molly! It's still to early to tell, but even with the bronchitis raging the OOO and CS looks like its turned it around. I'm still expectorating and don't feel 100% but feel like I'm ahead of where I'd be with antibiotics - we'll see if it holds up.
As for the liver flush, do you have access to a document that describes the whole procedure, plus the items you mentioned? Even though as you say, the drama from the Liver Flush forum makes it seem like maybe a more extreme measure than it is, I am still a bit worried given the previous (and maybe current) state of my liver. My Dr. couldn't load me up on all the meds he wanted because of concerns over my liver function when my troubles started a few years ago.
A friend of mine said he just picked up a liver detox product that he thinks has made him feel much healthier. It's actually just a regimen of a number of supplements that come in a big box. Do you think that might be a safer place to start or do you feel The Liver Flush is safe if you appear to be in good health for your age? I'm 51.
I think your organ by organ approach is a good approach to being systematic about this. For me there's no question that improving liver function is next up.
So much for Bob's original message to keep this a "... clean positive testimony only post." Oh, well.
Regarding the colloidal silver as an effective antibiotic - My 78 year-old mother has been prone to bladder/kidney infections and got one so bad that by the time she went to the doctor she had blood and pus in her urine. She'd been taking AZO standard which masked her pain, but it almost put her in the hospital.
I too have a CS generator, but periodically I like to order "Advanced Collidal Silver" from http://www.utopiasilver.com
when they have a sale and I keep unopened bottles for emergencies or when I travel that I can just grab and go. I feel like their shelf life is much longer than homemade plus I've always got some on hand and don't always have the time to make some up.
During Hurricane Rita, my mother and I evacuated to stay with my aunt and uncle. Almost as an afterthought, I threw in a bottle of CS. Urinary tract infections can come on suddenly and almost as soon as we got there, Mama started with the burning urination and backache. She had no AZO standard, or antibiotic and was already having to go to the bathroom every 5 minutes with the pain and burning. To say she was miserable is an understatement. We had a houseful of company and a raging storm outside. Plus the power went out ... in the whole town. Even the power company was on a generator.
I wouldn't really recommend this, but this is what I did. I told her to start with a TBSP and then take a tsp. of CS every couple of hours until the bottle was empty. It was an 8 oz. bottle. Within just a few hours her symptoms began to abate and by the time we left the next day she was markedly better. We got home to her AZO standard and she continued to take the CS every few hours until the bottle was empty - probably took her a couple of days altogether.
After we got home, we found out that the power was going to be out a minimum of 14 days and the heat index was 110 so after suffering through the first night of heat and mosquitoes, we decided to go to my sister's who had power and lives 90 minutes away. Because of debris, we kept getting rerouted, and it took us 6 hours to get there. I became desperate to find a bathroom since most of the gas stations and businesses were closed, but during the whole 6 hours my mother didn't go to the bathroom even once even when I stopped and it had been only 48 hours since she'd started the CS and had previously been going every 5 or 10 minutes.
She caught a cold and is prone to pneumonia so we took her to my sister's doctor and we asked him to do a urinalysis. He did and said she had a "trace of bacteria" in her urine and gave her a round of antibiotics for it. That was positively amazing to me given her history, and I feel that if she'd continued with the CS it would have probably knocked it out completely.
Now, there is a precaution against taking too much CS that can result in a condition called Argyria which turns the skin grey/blue. Usually that's caused from either improperly made CS or prolonged excessive overdose or both. So, I wouldn't recommend taking that much CS, but sometimes desperate situations call for desperate measures.
Plus, my mother was used to taking/eating lots of garlic and so didn't experience die-off, but I have candida overgrowth and can only take about 1/4 tsp. at a time. If I'd taken that much CS, the die-off for me would have been serious and maybe even dangerous. So my recommendation would be: Unless you're in a hurricane, in a small town, away from home, unable to get to a doctor, blah, blah, blah ... don't do it like we did, but this was what I considered a life threatening situation and I made an "executive decision" so to speak. Other times we've taken it like you would an antibiotic - 1 tsp, every 4-6 hours, etc., but on a maintenance basis, I would recommend 1 tsp. a day - or even less as in my case until I build up enough to tolerate die-off.
If I had the choice of taking CS or going to the doctor to get an antibiotic, I'd opt for the CS, but that's just me. You've got to decide for yourself. And remember to take probiotics or acidophilus to put back the friendly bacteria because CS kills everything (good and bad) just like an antibiotic does.
We started OPing 7/8/07 and only discovered OoO 2 or 3 weeks ago. Since OoO is considered a natural antibiotic, we've started pulling with one drop in whatever oil we use and do it for a few days on and a few days off. We've just started doing it so I don't have anything to report one way or another, but we'll see if we stay well because of it.
Stef, that was an amazing story about your mother and Hurricane Rita. The fear of "turning blue" keeps me from probably using as much CS as I probably should to knock this thing out. I limit myself to a couple of inhaled sprays 2-3 times a day. And I still wonder about inhaling metal directly into my lungs, though that's the only thing that really loosens things up and brings relief. It sounds like from what you've written that that's a fairly safe portion?
I'm getting so paranoid about the CS that I'm thinking of just going with traditional antibiotics instead even though I know they ultimately have a bad effect on my immune system. On the one hand I'm feeling better with noticeably less lung congestion, but I also feel I'm plateuing and still not able to knock out the fever and sore throat. I'll keep trying for another couple days at least given the lung congestion is under control, and knowing that it always takes a while to recover from bronchitis even with strong antibiotics. Thanks for your insights along the way.
Do you know people who have turned blue? Has you doctor warned you? Have you read something? Is it only the nasal spray that you're worried about or CS in general? Inquiring minds want to know.
I know of a couple of documented cases over the years, but those people took megadoses of questionable stuff. The senator that we hear about made his own with tap water and was drinking something like a gallon a day. I'm not sure of his name, but I think it was something like DUMB A**?
Before I bought my CS machine I read about DUMB A** (LOL) and everything I could find to tell me how dangerous CS was. Hours and hours of reading, and then I bought the Silver Puppy.
Then my friend, who is a Dr. told me that they vent CS into surgery areas to sterilize the air. When my husband got a really bad cut on his foot, I put CS on it and the nurse at the emergency unit told me that was the best thing I could do...and who was I, some really handy person or something? Boy did I feel proud.
I bathe in the stuff, but I don't use anything but H202 in the bath with it. I believe it's salts that can cause some reaction...if I remember my reading. So don't mix it with Sea Salt . I don't use Epsom Salts either to hedge my bets. I free pour the stuff in the bath, and that is like a megadose via the skin.
I'm not afraid of it at all. Ask me about drinking H202 though...now that scared me! Only did it a few times and some tiny voice in my head keep screaming NO NO.....so I stopped.
Sometimes this stuff can be scary. But the best thing to do is read and read and you'll find the answers one way or another.
I was actually responding to Larry's post about the paranoia. I think he's scared to even do a couple of puffs on his inhaler for fear of turning blue.
But you know the old saying, "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing ..." not talking about you, Larry ... and people do some dumb things thinking all the while they're getting healthy.
Case in point - when it first came out, I ADORED Splenda. I made the most delectable desserts you can imagine. This stuff was heaven sent from God. Then I researched it. Holy smokes! Well, my mother is still in the worship stage - drinks it and eats it in everything. She's proud of herself for being "sugar-free."
I've told her at least a dozen times that Splenda started out as an insecticide and is processed using chlorine. "It's dangerous, Mama!" She assures me the FDA would not allow stuff like that to be on the market. Ask me how many times I've banged my head against the wall.
I printed out several articles about mercury and aluminum in flu shots, told her about Alzheimer's, talked her into getting a homeopathic remedy (just in case) and told my panic-driven, flu shot and antibiotic peddling sister to back off! "Mama's not getting a flu shot this year!"
On the way to Wal-Mart, I stopped in at the doctor's office to grab a thyroid prescription that had expired. Mama tagged along and came in out of the hot car. We're friendly with the staff there and one of the nurses casually asked my mother if she'd gotten her flu shot yet. Before I even realized what had happened it was over.
I asked her if she'd remembered our conversation about mercury/aluminum/Alzheimer's and she said yes, but didn't think "our" doctor would give shots that had that kind of stuff in them. Sheesh! Why do I bother?
But on a positive note: She is now using Lugol's, OPing, finished the humaworm parasite cleanse, doing Barefoot's LBB, using bio-identical hormones, allergy under the tongue drops, and all kinds of other supplements. So maybe I'm having some sort of impact.
Flu season will be rolling around before long, so we'll see how that plays out. I've kind of washed my hands in that area. All I can do is give the information. Beyond that is up to her.
Well you Mom is light years past my Mom. A dentist gave my mother a broad-spectrum antibiotic (why? because he's an idiot) which in turn gave her a severe case of colitis, which the GP gave her Flagyl for parasites, and when they realized it was colitis, they told her to finish the Flagyl (which is HORRIBLE stuff). What did they do? The GP gave her MORE antibiotics to fix the colitis.
I gave her Probiotics, really good ones too. They sat in her refrigerator, and she would not touch them at all. If her GP doesn't OK them, then she won't take them at all.
I think there's a difference between caution (which should be extreme with either big pharma OR alternative medicine) and paranoia. Big pharma has proven that its research can't be trusted to be undoctored (pun unintended but...). Alternative medicine doesn't have the resources for the kind of research that would help consumers make better informed decisions given the lack of institutional support.
I love your enthusiasm, but I think in these forums we should all remember to urge caution to the newbies. Few if any of us understand this stuff beyond our own limited experiences.
My exact concern given the blue skin condition is that maybe this stuff doesn't get expelled from the system adequately. And because the ingestion of most metals beyond trace quantities is generally harmful in some way to the body.
But hey, this is the oil pulling forum and I took this thing way off topic. To go full circle, I tried some Oregano Oil in with my Flax Seed Oil and didn't mind the taste at all. It's probably a great combination to ward off gum diseases.
You may also consider adding Olive Leaf extract to your
supplements. I would take 4 caps every 12 hours. Lots
of water to keep things thinned and moving.
If your throat is involved at all, a toddy of apple cider
vinegar and honey will dehydrate the bacteria in your
throat and they will die. Again, the recommended amount
of water would be half your body weight in ounces of water.
Hi Larry - I often pull with coconut oil and put a drop of OoO with it for a few days on and a few days off. It's not really that strong, kind of like a minty flavor for lack of a better description. I've used it with other oils (sesame, walnut, grapeseed) and it was all about the same - a definite flavor, but not overpowering if you only use one drop.
My teeth were soooooo sensitive that I could not EVEN stand to hear someone else chewing ice. EEK!! Now I can eat Watermelon out of the fridge without a twinge- at all. I discovered this wonderful news about 5 days (!!!!) into my OP experience. I am on day 17 now. LOVE THIS!! I use sesame and coconut.
